    We received a warm and professional welcome from the receptionist who was also very helpful with regard to directions to the nearest train station etc.

    The resturant, both in terms of food and service was extremely poor. There were insufficient staff on duty at breakfast and those who were on duty were totally disorganised. The food was very poor - no bread rolls, only a few packets of cereal, toast was cold and tossed in a bread basket. Almost impossible to get a cup of tea or coffee. There was juice spilled all around the juice bar which had not been cleaned up, The area behind the coffee jugs was absolutely filthy with a large pile of dirty tea towels left lying on the floor. The bar service for food was equally dismal. It took almost an hour for the food we ordered to arrive and it was of poor quality.

    "Hotel run down, insufficient and untrained staff, when he was around the Duty Manager appeared to be interfering with the running of the restaurant which felt very uncomfortable, particularly over breakfast. " (107272703)

    The restaurant manager - he was the only member of staff who was helpful and had any idea of what customers of a hotel expected in terms of service. He resolved 2 problems over dinner 1) a wrong meal arrived as they'd run out of an ingredient and the chef changed the dish for an alternative without telling us. The restaurant manager kindly let us have the alternative dish for free 2) the waitress refused to let us have dessert as the kitchen had closed - we had to wait so long for our starters and main courses that the chef had gone home by the time we reached the dessert. When we told the restaurant manager he got the desserts himself.

    The restaurant was in total chaos on Friday night (26/8)- we waited 10 minutes without a menu; we ordered drinks 15 minutes after being seated (a bottle of wine, a pint of beer and a sparkling water) and waited another 20 minutes for them to arrive (apparently the Duty Manager had disappeared with the keys to the wine store). At check in the receptionist forgot to ask for a credit card to allow us to charge drinks and meals to our rooms so we had to pay for drinks in cash each time we ordered them during our meal. When we had finished our main courses we were told that we couldn't have dessert as the kitchen had closed. The rooms were run down - threadbare carpets, old bathrooms etc. It was very noisy on Friday night with guests running up and down corridors, shouting to each other.

    Room inc bathroom clean and tidy. Reception staff very helpful.

    Mug in bedroom cracked so couldn't use 2 mugs at the same time when we had a drink. Plughole in sink didn't work properly. Iron in bedroom not working. Hairdryer cut out half way thru drying hair?!

    "The Chester was easy to find and the booking in staff were very very good (the best I've experienced). The only thing I would say is that 6 room keys should have been left for us to pick up when we came back at night, however, the nigh porter only had 5. This resulted in 2 people having to sleep on the floor. I was going to mention this in the morning but was only told on the bus home. If I had known this before we left I would of asked for their money back. Your feedback will be interesting!!" (97721182)

    It was good stay for a good price. General happy.

    A few of use mentioned that it got a little cold at night.

    "Reasonable hotel for an overnight stay, though in need of a refurb in parts. The non smoking room we were in smelt very strongly of cigarettes and did for the entire stay (though staff did best to help, no other rooms were available).     "There were definitely pluses and minuses with this hotel. Stayed at another in same group near Cardiff and that was better overall than this one. Staff were friendly and helpful but the hotel itself could do with a bit of a makeover." (97402760)

    Room was large as was the bathroom. It was also quiet and quite dark which helped us sleep.

    Could get one warm shower but for person going second it was cold. No remote control for TV and single bedside lamp between beds made it difficult if one wanted to read. Breakfast was a bit chaotic as buffet service for everything including hot drinks which is also risky when it's busy.

    "We did not like that the TV stand was so low that it meant the TV could not be seen when we were lying in bed, and that we had to balance the TV + Stand on the table to be able to watch it. Also we were hoping for a luxurious swim in the 'heated pool', but instead it was on the chilly side. It was ok once in, but did not make us want to stay in long, and we got out quickly, looking foward to the hot shower instead. Had I known how cold the water was, I would have skipped the swim & gone straight for the shower / bath. The Hot water from the hot taps in the room was so extremely hot that it was dangerous. One expects hot water from a hot tap, but this seeemed excessive. On a minor point, the toilet roll holder was positioned behind the seat so was vey hard to reach when seated. I know options were limited, but where it is was very awkward. :0) Finally, when hotels say 'Satelite TV', one always hopes it will mean what it does at home (60+ channels with loads of choice), and one is always disapointed to find that this is not the case. In reply to the question Would you recommend this hotel, the answer should be, 'It depends'. It was ok, but we were not bowled over by it.. sorry. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful, which makes one feel bad about writing negative comments, but we have been asked, so this is our honest reply, in the hope that these minor aspects will be fixed and we could shout a resounding YES, IT WAS GREAT! All the issues should be easy to resolve by the management, and are not major problems." (99793608)

    It was clean, efficiently run and cost effective for a single nights business accommodation.

    The TV was to low and couldnt be viewd from bed. The shower would be better with a rigid splash door instaed of a curtain.

    Convenient location and easy access from the M53

    The earthy aroma that greated us outside the next morning and the smell of tobacco smoke from those smoking in the lounge immedaitely outside the breakfast area.

    Room was a good size & clean. Breakfast was really nice & plenty of choice.

    One morning there was a lack of cutlery & some food had ran out. The biggest problem we found was getting a drink in the hotel bar. It was supposed to be open to residents all the time but at night i had to go to reception to get any service & it took a while. When we finally got served they didn't understand what we were asking for & got our order wrong. There was no money in the till behind the bar or reception so in the end it had to be charged to the room. The metal shutter was then closed in front of us & we were left in there on our own. Had we wanted another drink we would've needed to go & get someone again. This seemed a very poor way to run the bar so we went back to the room after just one drink. Another couple came into the bar as we were leaving not knowing what to do so we told them to go to reception & they didn't look very happy also some people went away without asking thinking the bar was closed as all the shutters were down!Maybe if there was constant service it would be a lot busier. This was extremely poor in my eyes as this was my only weekend away in months & to be served a few drinks in the bar should not be a chore. Someone should be on the bar at all times.

    We paid for the hotel in cash as we do not carry cards - I have never seen such confusion when somebody pays cash - we order room service and it took me almost an hour to find out who I had to pay the food - I find it amusing that the hotel had no idea what to do when you pay them acual cash rather than promised money on cards or cheques.
