    The room was falling to bits & the Hotel did not appear much better !!! Concierge ??? no... carry your own bags, find your own room. Cosy lift.

    Good swimming pool and sauna. Quiet room with good view

    We asked the bar person if we could have a coffee his reply was 'I'll have to get it' which I thought was quite rude! On the other hand the night porter was very helpful and friendly and he got us a decanter of water for the room.

    Very central location, good to have car park and leisure facilities

    The hotel needs a good revamp. Our hotel smelt (which I reported to reception), the windows were rotten, paintwork & wallpaper peeling in room

    "Hotel better than expected considering some of the bad reviews I had seen. My room had been freshly painted, with new carpets, and some new furniture. The location on the edge of the town centre was just right for me, and I was able to walk to and from the bus and train stations, even with my luggage." (108703566)

    Convenient location close to shops, pubs, Pump House Museum, and other amenities. My room had recently been refurbished and the double bed was very comfy. Iron and ironing board in the room came in useful for getting rid of creases in clothes that had been crammed into a suitcase.

    A lot of condensation, and the extractor fan did not appear to be working. Opened the sash window to see lots of crumbled stone on the window cill. Appreciate it is an old building, but this is the sort of thing that is getting the hotel poor reviews.

    food was good

    The whole hotel that i could see needs a complete overhaul.i was supplied with an electric heater because the heating system was not working.not a good experience.The hotel inspector on tv would have loved this one room201 was not a good experience

    welcoming staff, large rooms, comfortable bed, great location. Personally I liked the hotel and found the décor issues to be very superficial. It has alot of charm if you like big, old buildings.

    The hotel is clearly an older building with some superficial issues; nothing that you wouldn't find in the average country house though! Not a place for those who are wanting boutique hotel décor, but it is being refurbished so things should get better in that respect.

    My friend's room was rather small, otherwise none, except that we had a power cut during our stay, thanks to an electrician doing some work there.

    "Good value for money (for Harrogate) but Could Do Better" (107466178)

    My son enjoyed the pool, even though it was tiny. Very handy to have WiFi.

    Decor past it's best - peeling wallpaper and damp patches on ceiling in room. Breakfast was a set charge of £10 for adults, £5 for children, which is only good for people who can eat vast amounts in the mornings but a rip off for people like myself and my son as we would only normally have toast or cereal.

    Excellent Breakfast

    Hotel had a run down feel. Although clean their rooms appeared in need of refurbishment. Parking was difficult as many of the spaces were taken in the early evening by customers at the Spa & leisure facility.

    A very comfortable overnight stay.

    Access to the car park was very difficult due to a car parked very close to your entry gate.Not your fault but very awkward at night in the dark.

    Good value evening meal, delicious. Good breakfasts, nice dining room with plenty of space. Courteous, friendly, efficient staff. Clean premises and pool area. In the centre of town for easy reach of all shops, events.

    Decor a little tired and old fashioned. Shower a little weak.

    Room dark and dingy, bathroom in need of refurbishmentespecially shower. Staff with very limited English Dinner in restaurant not up to 3 star standared Shame pool could not be used due to flooding Foyer in desperate need of refurbishment throwing throws over tatty sofas does not give good impression One tea bag in pot of tea for two not acceptable Orange juice watered down at breakfast

    You get what you pay for in this life. The room was £59 for a night room only. We mainly booked for the pool but it was closed. Hotel requires some refurbishment.

    "The hotel will be re-decorated internally next year. After a lot of negative reviews, we were very pleasantly surprized. It offered very good value for £47 without breakfast (breakfast at Betty's in Harrogate is a must!) We would deffinitely stay there again." (108720764)

    Good sized room and bathroom. Good quality new cotton sheets and towels. Plenty of storage space. Nicely decorated room. Large traditionally decorated public areas and foyer, in keeping with the type of hotel the St. George is. Very centrally located.

    Rear entrance from carpark tatty. Car park too small.

    "I thought the hotel was in need of a total upgrade. The bathroom was shoddy with the bath panel obviously rotten and an attempt to spruce it up by painting it didn't work. Shower curtains are disgusting and should not be used in hotels as they never get cleaned or washed as often as is required." (107799719)

    Great location. The hotel could look amazing but just looks shabby and in need of an overhaul. Rooms were clean even though the bathrooms looked like you wouldn't want to touch anything!

    The evening meal was extremely poor. It tasted like convenience food and not home cooked hotel food. In fact it was awful. The breakfast was ok but the sausages were lying in a pot of grease and did not look good.

    Car park a shambles needs improving Very drab room no air conditioning or fan did not feel safe opening window as there was a fire escape steps just outside also noisy fan from kitchen bathroom was not appealing very old fittings and drab decor floor was not overly clean could have been steam cleaned in the nooks and crannies

    although major refurbishment of this hotel is taking place ,it is being carried out with as little inconvenience as possible to guests. Idid not find it interfered with my stay.

    The hotel is very convinient for the conference centre and is close to everything.

    The hotel is very shabby and since I last stayed there two years ago, when it was being refurbished, there has been little improvement although there is scaffolding up in front of the hotel bedrooms. The hotel has a grimy feel and you feel that it isn't really clean or looked after very well.

    Lovely hotel and helpful staff - faded glory as a bit shabby in parts - but loads of character and historical charm and - very clean We came for two nights to explore Harrogate for the first time. We were on a budget and decided on your hotel because it was possible to have just the room, not breakfast, and the rate was so reasonable (£57 per night for the twin room) Hope your refurbishment goes well - we'll be back!

    You need to make more of the garden for the residents.

    "Not impressed. Above problems discussed with Management. Got impression he felt I was over-reacting to the scaffolding! I feel strongly activehotels should be telling people thinking of booking about the set-up and told him I would be doing this as it has been going on since about October. (all rooms in hotel affected by the all round works.) Your picture of the hotel is very misleading. Generally very out of date, needs modernising of decor & furnishing - perhaps after outside revamp!" (107972750)

    Convenient to Conference Centre

    Covered in scaffolding over all outside. My room on top floor had workmen directly outside. This meant I felt vulnerable to them looking in window - this did happen,and to possible entry to the room from strangers gaining access via the scaffolding. As result I was unable for safety reasons to open window to refresh room or to relax because of the possible invasion of privacy. The breakfast consisted of, amongst other things, barely cooked bacon, sausages & a toaster (do it yourself) which gave out either non-toasted or burnt offerings. Told by staff it was all they could produce as the one in the kitchen worked the same way! Second morning asked to be re-seated as I was being jostled & bumped by others assessing the self service table with cereals, fruit etc. Others attending the same confrence as I commented on the same things, they had not booked through activehotels Hot water left tap with a large intermittent spray action, this led to me being left wet each time I used it.

    nothing on the web site to indicate that the builders were in, scaffolding all around the hotel which did nothing for first impressions.

    Excellent food as always. Staff very accommodating, nothing is too much trouble.

    Undergoing refurbishment but noise is minimal - lots of workmen around with large vans making the limited parking space more challenging to find a spot!
