    Attractive hotel, clean room, good breakfast

    Queue for breakfast Lack of parking spaces - had to park in street around back (ticket provided by hotel). Worst pillows that we have ever experienced.

    Restaurant staff, particularly Czech Republic very efficient and friendly. My evening meal, Crabcake starter and Sea Bass entree highly recommended. Checkout staff were handing an obnoxious customer very professionally.

    "Travelled to Southport to visit relatives and booked two rooms. One was an executive suite (charged at normal rates), which was a pleasant surprise. The facilities for eating and relaxing were excellent, and overall it was an enjoyable stay." (97804307)

    An excellent location, with easy access to all facilities

    No lift to top floor and the Water was not always hot!

    "This is one of the big three in Southport and is centrally located. The breakfast room is a lot smaller than the one at the Prince of Wales, but it is adequate and I didn't see any queues forming. The room was lovely and spacious with windows that could be opened! The only thing I didn't like was sheets instead of a duvet." (99353334)

    "Food was the main complaint. Afternoon tea - Dilmah tea requested and Earl Grey served, scone - frozen and stale and tasted of onions, probably same knife had been used for veg and scone. Chips on evening meal were a bit disappointing. Steak was very nice though and staff very friendly." (97614726)

    "Overall my stay was very good - staff were very efficient and helpful & cleanliness was good, but it's not the place to stay if you want peace and quite! Both nights there were functions on - karaoke on Friday and country dancing on Saturday - which meant the public area (the lounge) was very noisy." (97693633)

    Some minor maintenance issues - a light bulb not working and a loose ceiling tile in the bathroom - but not sufficient to spoil my stay.

    convenient,good location, reasonable rate , very good breakfast, good leisure facilities, helpful staff

    car parking was quite difficult, believe some work was being carried out in the night as it was very noisy, presume this however to be a one off

    "Generally, this is a really nice Hotel and being an old building retains character and is undergoing some restoration in parts which will be of great benefit. It is so very convenient for the theatre and shops but parking is a bit tight. The staff were very nice and helpful. I find the Best Western tariff very high considering I was staying in London the night before off Oxford Street in a Premium room for " (99435279)

    Breakfast. Superb breakfast.At last, Hot plates and hot food. One of the best breakfasts experienced after many hotel stays.So much luke warm stuff out there. However, beware of hot serving utensils!

    Really nice room on the front. A warm night meant the window was open and was very noisy from Esplanade from drunken youths until early hours of the morning. Immediate area outside of window. Needed a quick tidy up. (containing cigarette ends, a plastic bag and other mess?).

    "We have stayed in Southport on many occasions in different types of accommodation, small BB and bigger hotels, one specifically on Lord Street but we were extremely happy with The Clifton. The online booking process was easy to follow and was good value for money. We wouldn't hesitate in going back to this hotel. The staff made you feel very welcome and were very friendly." (99816691)

    "An old English hotel which is a bit tied arround the edges but is full of character. The hotel looks across the boating lake towards the sea and Blackpool could be seen on the day we were there. We upgraded to a front facing room - well worth the money. Breakfast was good with a large selection from the buffet. Leisure club was good with helpful staff.     Very Friendly staff who were always very happy to accomodate, excellent breakfast, just around the corner from Lord street and adjacent to sea front facillities, billiant views from our front facing room, leisure centre and pool was nice and staff very welcoming!

    "Although you can see this is a old hotel, i would expect for the money to have stayed in a place that has a reasonable standard to the rooms. The 1st room we were offered was very poor and dated and looked like nothing had changed since the 70's on complaining we were told the shower does work, maybe that is a luxury at this hotel. The 2nd room although bigger was also very dated in its looks and bathroom." (3305249214)

    "Overall a worthwhile stay. I knew what to expect room-wise because I spent my honeymoon at the hotel, but I was let down by the evenings - the main bar had very loud piano music, which made it difficult to talk to friends.     Untidy in places, particularly main toilet areas. Bar staff in Conservatory bar had friends in during the evening and swore a lot quite loudly - I had my nine year old son with me and felt very uncomfortable. Had to queue both mornings for breakfast (partly because everyone seemed to want to eat at the same time).

    "The hotel was adequate however dont feel that it was worth the price paid, would expect much higher standard of decor for that price. Also the lift didnt work properly and several guests and staff members complained about this but to no avail. The food offered was very good and perhaps a visit to the restaurant would be recommended. I would stay in the hotel again if the price reflected the condition of the rooms.     Nothing really. The fan was not working in the bathroom, but we reported this on our departure as we were only there for one night.

    "The visit to Southport was to celebrate our 40th Wedding Anniversary, I(husband)had spent the first 21 years of my life in Southport, so as well as a celebration it was a trip down memory lane and an introduction to Southport for my wife. The Royal Clifton Hotel was selected after a website trawl of Southport hotels. It turned out to be an excellent choice, the staff were great and certainly made our stay enjoyable. The food, especially the breakfasts, was high standard. Before I retired, I spent 25/30 years travelling around the UK and mainland Europe on average two weeks every month, so I knew what I was looking for and was not disappointed." (3305050823)

    An older style of hotel but with all the advantages of being a part of the Best Western Chain. Excellent location with a good view.

    The en-suite bathroom was a bit on the small side and the ventilation fan noisy, especially if the bathroom was used at night. Other than that, no problems.

    "I found the staff just ok. There was a wedding reception on at the hotel & it spilled out to reception & the reception bar. This I found innapropriate as I could not get service upon my return to the hotel after dinner. Bar full of really drunk people, some even being sick. Breakfast service was fine but the food quality was poor (soggy bacon, deep fried sausages, old scrambled eggs, cold hard baked beans, no porridge option). I was dissapointed with the hotel overall."     Friendly staff, excellent room, ideal location, cleanliness of room, comfortable seating area in the bar area, good breakfast

    We went into the bar area (Conservatory) on Saturday afternoon the only complaint would be that crockery from other users had been left on tables for quite a while, the tables needed cleaning before other users sat down.
