    "I would like to have known that we were not staying in the Hotel, but in the Lodge, which was across the road and was just joined on to a row of terraced houses. You have to go across the road to the Hotel for meals." (97872005)

    The reception staff could not have been more helpful. They were polite and friendly.

    Original room I was offered was appalling, like a cupboard with the head of the bed directed to the centre of the room as the sloping ceiling gave no room for the head of the bed. The 2nd room I was offered smelled badly of mildew and had only tepid water, The third room was in the Motel part and proved far better. The waiter at breakfast was insolent and made it clear he didn't want to clear a table for me but wanted me to go in the separate dining room to eat alone and to where the food had to be carried from one room to the other. I felt he was looking down his nose at me.

    "Saturday night stay and spur of the moment the only hotel that had availability. We guessed why when we arrived. Very run down rooms, shabby and no way a 3 star, where did they get that from? Too much of a walk and the cost paid on the internet was a discraceful. Never ever go again, needs some serious money spending on the venue." (107412451)

    room was well presented and tidy although their was no remote control for the television and the wardrobe was in a poor state of repair

    fire alarm sounding and no staff to give guidance when alarm ended, many guests were confused whether to return to room or not.

    the decor is very interesting if a little timeworn

    no warning of private disco party in room under our bedroom till 1230am we were blamed for booking on internet..they would have told us of the party if we had phoned to book.

    The hotel and the staff were very warm and welcoming. The hotel is about 10 mins walk to the outskirts of the town centre but you can jump in a taxi for only £4

    the only problem was the lack of car parking spaces. We stayed on a Saturday night and the private parking spaces opposite were available from 6pm and all day Sunday but if you stay anyother night of the week you will strugle to find one close by.

    "I actually stayed at the hotel for around 8 weeks in total so my review covers the whole period - and the fact that I kept going back speaks for itself. Rooms I stayed in varied in size and quality of TV set but were always clean and comfortable. 1st time I arrived I was not happy as I was asked to pay in full on arrival (and usually with activehotels I pay on departure) plus (1st time) I found reception staff not very welcoming. I came to realise, however, that the quiet receptionists were 'shy' rather than 'rude' and the place was actually OK. I enjoyed the hotel, particularly the food - very good bar snacks, good portions/value and restaurant staff very good. Hotel very convenient to station, buses, town etc and I would recommend this hotel as value for money, convenience and (again) the food." (97483956)

    Not what I expected from the pictures that where on the site, thought it would be a lot different. Although the stay was pleasent the people who stayed in the room next door to us was very noisy from 4am in the morning until about 7am so we did get up and leave!

    We got a last min booking deal, and the price was a bargin! The hotel was comfotable and the staff were friendly and helpful. Not too far out of York city centre, and a walkable distance.

    could of done with updating and refubishment, but didnt really make much differnce to our stay.

    "The public areas had a lot of character which is what attracted me to the hotel in the first place. Plus there was a triple room available and the rate was very reasonable. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room would have been OK if it hadn't been for the damp, but this made an overriding impression because of the smell. It was also quite noisy when anyone used the stairs beside the room or walked along the corridor. Thankfully that was not often. As vegetarians we found breakfast a bit limited and expensive. We didn't take dinner in the restaurant as there was only one vegetarian choice. There was only one white wine on offer at the bar which wasn't very good." (97164279)

    Triple room had 3 single beds. Well equipped for making tea/coffee in room.

    The room smelled very strongly of damp. Terrible condensation running down window made curtains wet and dirty. Bathroom door so swollen it didn't close.

    "Check-in was easy though didn't realise I'd have to pay the balance then, rather than at the end of my stay (could be a problem if the room was no good!).
