    Very clean comfortable hotel with the friendliest staff and excellent food. Cannot fault it.

    Little things marred 100% enjoyment like toilet roll holder fell off, shower head not connected to wall. Also, not everyone can have jams & marmalade with morning toast - for us diabetics, availability of Marmite portions would be nice.

    The check-in was polite and friendly, and quick. All of the staff were very helpful. The room was a good size with ample toiletries, it was clean and overlooked the very pretty garden. We received a courtesy call the day before our visit to warn us that it might be noisy due to a wedding, but we were not troubled by any noise at all during our stay. The grounds of the hotel are a beautiful woodland setting which was very calming. Good car parking spaces too. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

    Not bad points, but the hotel was about 5 miles from the centre of York which meant having to get a cab to and from the centre. The heating didn't make the room warm enough. The beds did not have mattress covers on them, but the bedding and towels were clean. There could have been more of a selection of cheeses and salami hams and breads for the continental style breakfast. A spa pool and beauty salon would have been nice.

    efficient and friendly staff pleasant location Restaurant - very good food in the evening and at a reasonable price. Breakfast excellent buffet with very good choice. Room 36 very well appointed, pleasant decor. Bathroom facility excellent.

    The room overlooked the function room where a wedding reception was being held. That no problem but the disco/live band went on late till 12 midnight and smokers congregated outside the function room (below the room)and chatted away till 1 am in the morning, which meant we could not open the windows during which was a very warm night. If you want to escape to peace and quiet for the weekend before you book check what functions are on and ask for a room out of earshot of the music.

    Food excellent and room very quiet

    Too many staff standing around at breakfast and not helping enough. Tea and coffee from urns was horrible. The staff could have just as easily brought fresh tea or coffee to the table.

    Great Staff, Lovely Setting, Great Room, Very pleasant stay.

    Restaurant a little cramped at breakfast. Should allow guests to sit further apart or even reduce tables at quiet times of season. People generally don't like to think everyone can hear their conversations. Dinner was OK because we moved to a further table after being offered one within 3 feet of other guests. The young lady that looked after us at dinner was excellent also.

    Staff courteous and efficient. No hanging around for check-in; no hanging around checking-out.

    There aren't any really....except we were shown to our room by a lovely young lady, whose offer of help with my bags I declined as a true gentleman should. Had a young man taken us to our room, I would have gladly accepted an offer of help with the bags.

    "It was a shame such a lovely building had been decorated in such a non sympathetic way - it felt like an old people's home. The natural features of the beautiful old building had been covered up by striped wall paper and cheap carpets." (107149486)

    The external building and grounds were very nice.

    The decor inside was very dated and garish and the beds in our twin room were tiny. My collegue is only 5'3" and his legs stuck out the end.Needless to say that at 6' I didn't sleep well at all with half my body sticking out of the bed.

    Bright and clean hotel and rooms. Great position (just south of York), and nicely situated. Pleasant conservatory and garden. Friendly staff & good breakfast!

    Location,size of rooms and their facilities,very enjoyable dinner in the restuarant.

    A sizeable Wedding Party made us feel a bit like a spare part and took up a lot of the staff's attention.

    We were very pleased with the room and bathroom facilities. Comfortable bed and plenty of room with table and chairs. The conservatory and lounge and bar were very good quality
