    "we would all use the castle again. clean and comfortable and suited our needs as we were looking up family history so needed a base to come and go from. talked about using a travel lodge but the castle was better as everything was on site so we didn't have to be in and out for food etc. staff throughout were friendly and helpful."     hotel staff were very welcoming and helpful without being in your face. they seemed really surprised when we said how nice they had been and how we had enjoyed our stay. food was excellent and good value.

    situated in quite a loud part of town for a saturday night and the shower needed some attention, which we mentioned to them

    "Good. Relaxing and with the facilities to work, eat and socialise in the same venue. Very accessible for the Valleys with minimum traffic early in the morning and although busier in the evenings returning to Merthyr, traffic moves fairly well. I would certainly use again when in the area." (107800090)

    Large room with comfortable bed and good (not too hot) room temperature. Good working space. Large bath with shower and plenty of hot water and space. Breakfast in a very pleasant dining room, light and airy. Food as you would expect for breakfast with a choice of menu and a lot of flexibility - I would recommend the poached eggs. Evening meals extensive menu at different prices - I only had an omelette which was very good especially with half the chips and double the salad. Staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially the evening staff. Bill was available promptly and was accurate. Hotel is clean and well maintained and its position in the centre of Merthyr makes it accessible for local amenities. Well signposted off the main ring road and the website picture makes it very easy to find.

    Strong smell of curry in the room and bathroom late evening. Parking in a large unlocked car park.

    Had to move rooms on arrival due to lights not working in first room. In the room we stayed in the shower didn't work properly, where there was once a light over the basin there was insulating tape over the fitment.Electrics dodgy, wire to kettle very hot, TV only worked when kettle or other was plugged into a socket nearby.Literature in hotel room was contrary to current policy (literature stated snacks were available on Sunday evening whereas we were told they were not).

    staff were efficient and helpful

    original room had an unpleasant odour. we were relocated immediately. unfortunately the room was located at the side of the building and considerably smaller.

    It provided us with a convenient point to visitfamily members in different valleys. The excellent roads making it extremely easy.

    Bar was good and a nice big screen TV to watch the Footy on did not use the dining area but looked good Breakfast was Ok and staff were very friendly

    "Location was easy to find. Car parking was not on site but about 100m away. Staff were friendly." (97969827)

    Good sized room.

    No fruit option for breakfast. No decaff coffee sachets in the room. Room smelt slightly - perhaps an old smoking room now converted maybe?

    "room not clean thick layers of dust on pipes etc, bathroom not clean and needs an update, stayed 2 nights,low toilet roll, not changed when room made up after first night ,hence ran out during stay, also parking is in a council pay and display and only free between 6pm and 8am" (97449937)

    "There is very little more information I could have had before booking but a more accurate guide as to how far away the car park was would have been useful. As a regular business traveller I was disgusted at the cleanliness of the room which is something very rarely encountered in hotels charging this room rate." (97504044)

    The parking was too far away and the room was far from clean. The breakfast was also poor qaulity.

    The staff in the restaurant were lovely and I could not fault the food. It was a real pity the rest of the hotel didn't meet these standards.

    Our Hotel room was dirty,the bathroom bin had not been emptied from the previous people.

    "X43 bus is really handy to get out onto the Brecons, and the bus stop is right next to the hotel, useful if you arrived by train." (97071601)

    The food was excellent.

    A mini fridge or something in the room would have been nice to keep milk cold for coffees.

    Hotel was centrally positioned. So convenient for most things in Merthyr

    The room was dirty. The bathroom floor had hairs on it. There was a leak from the bathroom ceiling. The bedroom floor and skirting board were very dusty. The valances on the bed had dirty footprints on them. As the room had a laminate floor the beds had a tendancy to slide across the floor when turning over!
