    "Perhaps we were given inferior room as we booked the Winter package (in August?!!)which included a free meal on the first night. We only discovered this was to the value of £15 each when we checked out, but the food was pretty good. The winter package seems like a marketing tool to use up the inferior rooms. The room was newly decorated but was quite small, faced a wall across a narrow alley so had no views to speak of! If we did stay there again we would ask for a room in the main part of the hotel which seemed much nicer than the annexe!" (108876269)

    Parking. Room quite small and out of main part of hotel, felt like the poor relation!! Toilet seat kept falling off! Had to ask for pillow cases!

    Lovely surrounding and rooms especially the dining room.Well situated for town and local amentiies.

    Very expensive for what we got. Breakfast was adequate but not as good as other breakfasts we had on this holiday, especially considering the cost. TV in room did not work properly. Not enough good quality biscuits in the room. Would have expected better coffee than Nescafe. Very cheap loo roll.

    "It was ok for one night but after seeing cleaning staff the next morning, sorting out all the clean towels and sheets and placing them on the floor outside each room, my husband was disgusted and just the lack of basic thought around cleaning put us off using the hotel again. " (107574110)

    The booking was really easy and the location of the hotel excellent. Also the welcome at the hotel was lovely.

    Our room had to be accessed via the garden and walking on the gravel was not easy. The room was not cleaned to the standard I would have expected. There were several weeks worth of dust on skirtings/plug sockets and hairs in the sink in the bathroom. The floor behind the sink pedestal was filthy and had obviously not been cleaned for a very long time. The shower bracket was broken and had to be strategically placed to enable us to use it. The room literature indicated that an iron/board was in the wardrobe but none were there. I rang reception and informed them and was told that there should be a note in the wardrobe notifying us that one would be brought to the room if required, there was no note but they did bring them very quickly.

    Central location, really helpful staff in Harveys Bistro particularly, the decor - especially the dining room which is quite unique, the quality and quantity of the breakfast.

    Insufficient private parking although we do appreciate this is difficult due to its central location.

    This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel and it was an even better experience than the first, as we were upgraded to a suite without having to ask. Perfect hotel - perfect position for sight-seeing - overall experience - brilliant. Would definitely stay again.

    "We picked The White Swan Hotel as a one night stop as we wanted to see a little of Anwick on route home from Scotland. The reception staff were lovely and welcoming when we checked in and made a real fuss of our baby son which he loved! The Room was clean, well decorated and modern, with everything we could need, including a travel cot, complete with bedding and a container for warming bottles in, that we asked for when we booked. The room was quiet and we had a restful night with no disturbances. Breakfast was a hot or cold buffet style affair with Waiter/waitress service for coffee/Tea and Toast etc. Again, the restaurant was beautifully presented, light airy and with lovely period features. The staff were lovely and made us feel very at home. We would love to stay here again and would recommend to others. Thank you." (107434419)

    Beautiful Hotel in great Central Location, welcoming and very friendly staff and lovely food, room modern and well presented. Free Car parking to rear of hotel.

    Lovely room and facilities. Fab breakfast.

    Rather noisy outside the hotel until 2.30am (though I know this is not the fault of the hotel) - would book a room at the back of the hotel next time

    The receptionist , bar staff and dining staff were very friendly and helpful

    Made the mistake of taking a "late breakfast" i.e. 9:30am to discover a general shortage of items of food - some arrived, other ran out. Food was generally luke warm and not cooked particularly well - the tablecloth was dirty and should have been changed. Ate earlier on Sunday which was a much better experience - good quality food, well cooked, warm and a clean tablecloth

    Central Location with Parking Facilities Excellent Breakfast Annexe rooms nice and warm in cold weather.

    Dirty unwashed cups in room 6 on the 27th December 2008 Small step down from bedroom to bathroom inconvenient as light switch in bathroom. Access to hotel from annexe requires outside corridor access which is not ideal in cold weather.

    "Adequate, but we were on a discount rate of £80 per night. I would have been outraged if I had paid full price (£130) for this. Would stay ehre again, if the room was warm, and I could have warmed up on a cup of tea. " (107888729)

    Friendly welcome, pleasant decor

    The room was cold, there were no tea and coffee facilities, and sadly the breakfast wasn't impressive (tasteless, bland scrambled eggs and oily mushrooms).

    friendliness of most of the staff. the breakfast. nice room. location. decor. our room was at the back of the hotel and therefore very quiet.

    instead of a double room we had 2 single beds pushed together and 2 single quilts. it would have been ok if the beds were clamped together but as they were on wheels they moved easily and a gap would appear. Also i dont expect to be disturbed when there is a do not disturb sign on the door.

    Reception was often almost hostile; at best disinterested. We all accept a creditcard swipe on arrival but taking full payment upfront is unfriendly & unnecessary. There was not enough storage for clothes & table top space was inadequate. Who on earth needs an empty ice bucket in a hotel??

    "Staff friendly and helpful, hotel central with good restaurants and places to see all around. We asked for a change of room and this was accommodated. Hotel car park is fairly small if hotel is full, Car park behind needs meter feeding at 8 a.m. Would help if hotel kept a stock of leaflets of LOCAL attractions.     The parking facilities were good. The hotel had some stunning features and was very well situated for the Alnwick Gardens and The Castle.

    Mostly excellent service from busy staff. Modest and quiet style.

    Broken door lock, quickly fixed. Slightly less than spotless bathroom. Even though the weather was cool, the room was quite warm. Somnolent breakfast staff.

    The staff were extremely helpful and pleasant, and the room was clean and well maintained. The food was excellent.

    Limited channels on the tv, and the shower, although well fitted lacked any power, I had to stand right under the head to get wet and rinse off.

    "I would have liked to have known you couldn't breakfast before 7.30am. I work in Alnwick a couple of days a week and sometimes finish late and start early, my idea was that if this happens I would stay in a hotel and yours seemed the best bet. However I think a B&B would be better. Meals in the restaurant were very expensive and not value for money." (97387366)

    Not very much decor if anything

    Room small, bathroom shower inadequate, not clean, partially used shower gel left, If you are on business a 7.30 earliest breakfast is no good we had 8.00am appointment and we had room service instead. Toast burnt and scraped and soggy, coffee unable to drink, used room coffee instead that was o.k. muesli powdery and stuck to roof of mouth couldn't eat it.

    "The last time we stayed at the hotel was 30years ago when it was very shabby indeed. It has been considerably smartened up and is in an enviable location re. the castle , the gardens and the high street.There is also plenty of handy parking.We really enjoyed our stay here and asked friends to join us in the very elegant restaurant for dinner."     "Quite an expensive stay- feel that it was a little over priced for the facilities we had- our rom- a standard double was quite small in comparison to other places we've stayed. I would stay again but would ask for a room in the main part of the hotel before booking- and I would be reluctant to pay any more than we did this time!" (97548861)

    Hotel is obviously having some work done at the moment- the room had been recently decorated. Staff in the dining room were very helpful.

    THe room we had was in the 'newer' part of the building at the back- and unfortunately the road that it overlooked is obviously a route for cars and vans from around 7.00 in the morning. Couldn't help but feel that even double glazed units in the windows would have alleviated some of the traffic noise!
