    Very good friendly service. Fascinating historic building, with many interesting features, and furnishings. Louis, the owner's dog was an absolute delight.

    "WE PREFERRED TO STAY AT THE FIRST HOTEL BUT WE WOULD RECOMMENDED THE KIRKCONNEL TO ANYBODY ELSE" (107339322)

    THE ROOM WAS VERY NICE AND CLEAN WE HAD A MEAL AT NIGHT AND BREAKFAST IN THE MORNING.

    THE HOTEL DIDN'T HAVE OUR RESERVATION SO WE HAD TO STAY IN ANOTHER HOTEL ON THE FRI NIGHT WHEN WE RETURNED TO KIRKCONNEL THEY FOUND THAT THE ROOM WAS OURS SO WE HAD TO PAY ONE NIGHT

    room good,service good,food good,hotel and grounds superb,had a great time with john and the locals, breakfast great if they have it they'll make it for you

    wife so relaxed she fell asleep early so i had to drink with some regulars in the hotel bar so this led to the only bad point i can think of and thats when i woke up with a very sore head.

    easy to find off motorway

    food expensive for what it was. Whenwe had dinner the hotel dog was allowed to lay at the table,whenwe moved to another table it got on to the chairs to check what was left,not very hygenic.front of house could have been a bit smarter,and not chewing all the time.

    Clean room, bed and bathroom.Quite pleasant bar area for relaxing or eating.

    The room was advertised as 'honeymoon suite' but was just an ordinary, not very large double room,with bathroom. Owner's dogs are allowed to roam around tables while guests are eating.

    Loved the room, and the hotel was quirky and unusual.

    Traffic noise was apparent but cant be helped when you want to be near the motorway for an early start the following day.

    Friendly greeting, food and service ok.

    Room cold, bathroom cold. Had requested Honeymoon suite and bit of pamp etc as just married, this request was ignored totally. Expected proper Scottish breakfast. Very disappointed.

    Lovely friendly staff. Quiet and welcoming. Roaring log fire in reception area. Nothing was too much trouble. Perfect location.

    "We were breaking our journey from Cleveleys to Edinburgh. The location was ideal for us, 2 mins from junction 19. For the price we paid we felt that it offered excellent value, and the place had so much character and history which was an added bonus. We would definately stay again. " (107813291)

    Warm welcome from the owner of the hotel. Roaring log fire which was very pleasant to relax by in the evening, cosy bar area with extensive range of drinks. Evening meal accommodated for very late on which was appreciated and which my partner commented was the best steak and ale pie he had tasted. Hotel rooms clean and quiet and the bed very comfortable (we were situated at the back of the hotel).

    We love dogs, but I could appreciate that if you didnt you may not like the owners pets sitting by you while having breakfast etc.

    extremely helpful staff good food very quiet lovely historic hall/hotel and grounds

    "Under new management can mean many things but this was not what was expected. Arrived at 5pm with cook alone on premises summoned by telephone call - over an hour later the management arrived. Food was well cooked but basic. Staff when seen were friendly and apologetic. The room was of a good standard but showed signs of wear." (99112392)

    "We stayed on the Sunday and Monday nights of a Bank Holiday weekend. The hotel was quiet which we quite enjoyed. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We were almost made to feel part of the family. The staff responded to requests quickly (although there were two pillows each on the bed we asked for more and they were brought to the room straight away). The room was spacious and well laid out.     Fair size

    Bed was too soft. Carpeted bathroom (and side of bath). Old fashioned decor. Noisy with proximity of motorway and late night wedding guests.

    "Staff were pleasant and helpful at all times. Having requested a ground floor room (my father is 84) it would have been good to have been told that the hotel did not have any rooms on the ground floor. However, they had obviously tried to place us in a room with minimal steps for access. Food was disappointing: basic choice of 3 items for each course on the dinner menu. The starters were only luke warm, and all of the main course was not much better, except the potatoes, which were hot. The dessert was very tasty though. The story was much the same at breakfast."     Clean and tastefully decorated. Room was of a fair size with a concise layout.

    Bathroom was quite small. Shower (over the bath) leaked over the side of the bath into the carpet, creating a slightly musty smell. Traffic noise from the Motorway was not sufficiently reduced by poor-fitting windows.Hotel machinery/heating was noisy.

    "We used this hotel en route from South Wales to Edinburgh. It was extremely conveniently located just off the Motorway with good signposting. Whilst it was close to the motorway and the traffic noise from it was high outside the hotel, it was scarcely noticeable within. The hotel did have something of a tired appearance - some parts of it are in need of refurbishment. Nevertheless it served its purpose well for us - with excellent food for both dinner and breakfast.     Warm, welcoming and friendly staff. Comfortable hotel. Staff tried very hard to accommodate requests and make your stay special.

    No shower in honeymoon suite. Was not given option of choices of either honeymoon suite (one had bath and other had jacuzzi). Had to request toilet roll for room twice as there was insufficent.

    We arrived late and were put under tremedous presure to arrive as the hotel would close and alarm put on for the night. I could have done without the pressure. The late breakfast in the morning was some compensation for this.

    "This hotel was comfortable and friendly with all the necessary facilities one would expect. The bedroom was adequate in size and contained the usual coffee/tea, TV phone etc, with the added bonus of a trouser press. The hotel does cater for a lot of weddings and one can find that it is difficult to escape the activities and find a peaceful corner. In fact on one evening, we found dinner served in the bar due to the dining rooms being occupied." (2633984)

    Hotel was very convenient, immediately adjacent to the motorway albeit with the associated road noise, this was not a problem when inside the hotel however.

    "Small country house style hotel. Quiet location with reasonable to good facilities. Staff were very helpful, booking a night in a sister hotel free of charge and getting fax confirmation to me very promptly. Food good and nothing one could take exception to.
