    Hotel manager very helpful and made me feel very welcome. Hotel was clean and well looked after. Good service in the morning for breakfast

    The owner was a very pleasant helpful man. The bedding and towels were very clean

    There were parts that needed re-decotation. We couldn't turn off our radiator but this was done by one of the staff the following day. Would have liked some fruit and possibly yogurt at breakfast.

    The manager was friendly on arrival. Conveniently located as to where I wanted to go. Large lit car park at the back of the hotel, would have preferred to have CCTV installed - maybe it did!

    Lots of rubbish that was against the kerb on the roadside on my arrival- first impressions always count. No decaffinated coffee in room on arrival (I was gasping for a cuppa after being on the road for 4 hours), however, the manager arranged to provide some an hour later. No lift to upper floor. Not sure if they had a disabled room?

    "I would not book this hotel again! Mainly because it was dirty and noisy but also because it was not very comfortable. I work a lot of nights away from home and when I come in at 11 or 12 at night like to have a comfortable and warm bed to get into. This hotel offered neither of these things, which I would not call luxuries by any means. The price of the room was £45 per single room, which in comparison to some of the hotels in the local area was expensive. I also expect cleanliness from a hotel and found scum in the shower tray and a used towel. The room had obviously not been vaccummed ina while either as I found some items on the floor." (97361517)

    The shower was dirty, one of the towels looked as though it had already been used, the room was cold, the hotel was very noisy with other guests having the television on loudly and there being lots of shouting.

    "The hotel was OK for basic needs IE. one of two nights stay, but if you were going for any length of time i would go somewere else. Shower was very slow and broken at the top so you had to hold it. Beds were very clean and comfortable. Breakfast was good." (97016548)

    The hotel is in obvious need of repair, carpets need re-newing and there were some very funny smells around IE. damp

    "the hotel has good links to the city as the metro is just around the corner and the bus stops right outside the hotel. The hotel owner Safe looked after us and was very helpful and recommended places to go in the city if you are looking for a base that is just outside the city this is perfect looking forward to staying again, a great breakfast too!! thanks darren and mike" (99075295)

    "Hotel undergoing renovation for which signs were displayed making apologies and this was known to us when booking. New tiles had not been cleaned off properly leaving white dust. Cleaning staff could have dusted woodwork. Towels were not changed daily. Owner and waitress very nice and food was excellent." (99118029)

    "The hotel was a lovely place to stay, with very helpful service from the staff. As we used the hotel as a base to get into Manchester, it was quite far, although the metro was about a ten minute walk, and a taxi cost about " (99997362)

    It was a lovely building, kept very clean. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, and willing to help with any problems.

    "Due to health problems I should have asked about stairs, access etc. I managed ok though. The staff of this hotel were really helpful, everywhere was clean and tidy even though as was pointed out, the hotel reception area and various other areas of the hotel are undergoing refurbishment. Breakfast was well presented and very tasty!! We were pleased to find that there was an area for parking as hotel situated on a fairly busy road. Would certainly go back there again." (3305269475)

    "The hotel wass basic , and adequate. The chap running the hotel very friendly and helpful. Had to walk down the road to get something to eat. Not advantageous when raining. The ownwer explained that meals could have been done on prior arrrangement. I wasnt aware of this when booking.     "Intended to stay just the night by booking in very late. Ended up booking in early evening for a quiet recovery of our long day but soon wished we hadn't. Corridor was noisy with footsteps & voices easily audible. The windows looked double-glazed but didn't behave so, as much outdoor sounds yet alone passing vehicles was also easily audible. So the noise on both flanks was quite hard to ignore. The room itself was cosy enough, but a little chintzy for my taste, the decor, facilities, furniture and overall interior styling needing a complete makeover. It was equipped as described. It appeared immediately clean but a little mould in the shower, the grimy window ledges and dusty overhead lamps and high surfaces showed that any regular cleaning was just superficial. Overall, presently, the Hawthorn is a place for the non-fussed to lay one's head for a night or two, with a benefit of a great breakfast in the morning." (3304453871)

    Only stayed a night... too brief to find anything outstanding. Breakfast was good though, liberal and served hot.

    Premises not soundproofed enough... only superficially clean with non-visible areas having dust, grime and mould.

    "Extremely good value for money. A most helpful and courteous owner/proprietor who is obviously well respected in the town. When I went to his recommended restaurant for dinner and mentioned the Hawthorn I was welcomed like a long lost friend! A thoroughly pleasant experience." (3304436566)

    Nothing special but clean, functional and very good value for money

    Possibly to state on web-site that dinner was not available due to extensive renovations being carried out. It did not worry me but other people might have been more concerned.
