    Resturant food was poor. Everything seemed to have a tomato soup type sauce. I'm not convinced a good chef was workig at all that night? If he was, a trip to Italy may be neeeded to see some real Italian food!

    I do not give excellent lightly and would not hesitate too revisit this hotel or use it as a venue for an event. It really is very very good.

    Meal was great

    We were accused of helping our selves to the bar by a member of staff after having a meal in the restaurant,which was not true

    No-one at reception when we arrived - we had to go looking for someone so that we could check in. Shower not good - low water pressure, couldn't aim the shower head properly as bracket broken and couldn't open shower cubicle from the inside very easily! Bathroom and room very small.

    Friendly front-of-house staff, clean and cosy room.

    Small double room backed onto the train line so fairly noisy during the evening, small breakfast with less than ideal service, very expensive (£75 for one night) when considered in context of facilities.

    The hotel is situated in a very good position for walking into St Albans - about 10 minutes. The staff are extremely helpful yet unobtrusive. Very good value for money.

    The room was very clean. Fresh fruit available for breakfast. The kitchen staff did their best to meet my dairy free requirement at breakfast including recooking my poached eggs without butter.

    There was noise from the railway behind the hotel and there was also noise from the kitchens below my room, the soundproofing was genrally poor. Breakfast was basic, very cheap orange juice and yoghurts.

    Functions on Friday and Saturday night were noisy and disturbed sleep And limited parking Room smaller than ones I had stayed in on earlier visits. No one answered reception phone when I call from room No lift

    Garden was beautiful, really relaxing, great that there is such an excellent restaurant attached, friendly staff, clean rooms, like that the cost of breakfast was included in the price.

    Room was a little on the small side, we had a standard double, and the walls are on the thin side.

    Close to where our friends lived. Large dining facilities with plenty of room for breakfast, and had we wanted to eat dinner there, would have been no trouble in getting a table.

    Shower only ran cold. Reception seemed surprised that I had mentioned it, didn't suggest a room change, and din't fix it for the following day. No discount in lieu offered. One bath and one hand towel left out for me and my wife. Additional set surplied when asked (after morning ablutions) Loo didn't always flush. Receptionist who welcomed us was informative, the rest of staff only spoke the minimum necessary. Drastically needs updating. Absolutely no way is this a three star hotel.

    The process of finding and booking a good hotel was efficient and stress free. Although the room was rather small it was clean and comfortable whilst at a good price - breakfast was tasty and most welcoming.

    Shower head was loose.

    Beautiful gardens and dining room/conservatory. Good food and service.

    Not many people dining in the evening so lacking in atmosphere. The train line adjacent to the car park was quite noisy with very frequent trains although I know you cannot do much about that!

    Very nice gardens and breakfast room

    Booked a twin room but were shown to a double room. Asked to be moved to a twin room and were given a small, dark room with no view. Receptionist tried to charge us £5 more than we had booked on the internet.

    Handy for where I wanted to be

    I stayed at this hotel three weeks ago and it was OK, £50 pn without breakfast, a fair price (Room 2) But this time it was £68 (including breakfast, but even so...) and the room was smaller (Room 3) a very small single with a wash-basin so small that you couldn't get the kettle under it to fill it up! There were bare wires hanging from the ceiling light, the TV remote didn't work, and the bed was on wheels so that when you leant against the headboard it slid across the room. Although it was clean, it was really too small a room even for a single. A shame - I would stay again if neccessary but you need to watch the price... (by the way I reported the bare wires so I hope they've put that right now)

    When I checked in, I advised that i had a bad knee due to knee surgery last week and requested a ground floor room on line. On arrival I was advised that a ground floor room was not available but what disappointed me more was nobody even offered to carry my small suitcase let alone help me up the stairs, knowing I was going to struggle with the stairs. This hotel does not cater for disabled people. Very frustrating that there is no internet access!!

    Good surroundings, excellent food, and a single room with a full breakfast; is better priced than a typical Premier Inn.

    If you are a light sleeper the occasional noise of passing trains may disturb you; if your room is at the rear of the hotel.

    Hotel public rooms bright and clean. Staff obliging and willing. A smile goes a long way! Breakfast freshly cooked and delicious.

    Mattress hard and lumpy despite mattress "topper". Pillows also not very comfortable. Shower-room in need of refurbishing, esp. shower cubicle. Room rather cramped.

    Restaurant food and wine was excellent, the staff were friendly and helpful, there was adequate parking and we had a very comfortable bed. The hotel corridors were very quiet during the night with no noise at all from other guests or from closing doors etc. The cooked breakfast was excellent. The hotel had very nice grounds/gardens.

    There was a railway line relatively close to hotel which resulted in slight passing train noise audible in our rear situated room during the day. However, there was no problem with any train noise during the night and the railway did not disturb our sleep at all.

    Friendly staff

    Tiny room, hardly any natural light, windows looked straight out onto a brick wall, stains on duvet cover, hard to ventilate room as only tiny window opening

    In general the hotel is nice, clean. The breakfast is good and big.

    The hotel has three buildings. The information about reception opening time is only available in the sole reception. Check-out time in weekend starts from 8:00 AM. I had to wait for one hour. Nobody available during the "non-working" hours.

    Booking was easy, staff polite, room was clean. Compared favourably with what other guests at the wedding we went to were saying about the accommodation experience they were having at another hotel in St Albans.

    The room looked a bit dated, some 1980's looking desk furnitutre but it was up kept up to together, clean and it all worked.
