    "As soon as I started to present my reservation slip to check in, the receptionist offered a deal for a better room upon a supplement. I was not to know that this in effect could forestall any complaint I might have wished to make against a difficult room that my wife and I were going to stay for a few nights. For the benefit of those who might be interested to book into a "Classic Double Room" (whose description seems absent from the website), here is a first-hand description: My room has a "double bed" about four feet in width to sleep two adults, and the remaining floor space is not sufficient for two normal size suitcases to be open at the same time for unpacking. If one of the occupants wishes to sit on a chair in the room, the other will have to sit on the bed. The open suitcase on the floor will in any case block the way to the bathroom. There is a very high wall of about a foot's distance up against the window, and only if one takes a stiff hard look upwards, one could perhaps have a view of the sky through a slit about two floors up. Upon checking out, I was told there was a computer breakdown and there was no way whatsoever the receptionist could tell me even roughly how much I was expected to pay, except to absolutely trust the hotel that it would charge the correct amount to my credit card whose details I had to leave behind - virtually a request of a blank cheque. But what can you do about it, if you are hurrying on your way to the airport? I only chose this hotel because I had an appointment in the Buckingham Palace in the morning, and wished to be punctual without running the hazards of congested morning traffic in Central London. This hotel was five minutes walk from the Palace gates. I should have known that there might be a few likely better choices in the area." (107589359)

    The only good thing to say about this hotel is its restaurant - the food was good and the service most professional.

    quite spacious room, wonderful bed, good location

    Aircond. did not work for the 2 first nights. Corridors very narrow (wonder if the fire would start??)

    Wonderfully kind, courteous and attentive staff. Excellent breakfasts. Superb location. Comfortable room, well equipped. Interior decoration admirable and dignified.

    Toilet seat badly attached -- could not be made to stay up. Glass shower curtain too small to keep water inside. Unnecessary number of "things" in the room. Much appreciated, but good taste requires simplicity.

    "I could not ask for a better service from the staff. Traveling with a disabled wife, the staff were there to help if needed but not over the top. The bar and restaurant were excellent but a bit pricy. However, as this was the centre of London it was what I expected to pay. Overall, a very pleasing and friendly hotel that I would stay at again." (97134188)

    "This hotel's location is perfect if visiting London. Close to everything a tourist would like to visit, plus right in the middle of a wonderful area to walk around and get the feel of just being in London. The rooms were very clean, although they were the typical small European rooms. All the amenities, like hair dryer, safe and ironing board and iron were in the room and we never had to ask for anything. Very good internet, as well. Without exception, the entire staff were the best, most friendly and extremely helpful we have ever run across...not only in Europe, but China and the US, too. This is now our favorite hotel in London (and we've stayed at many) and we will certainly always stay there from now on. We had a great time here and would recommend it if you're not looking for a big, impersonal, modern hotel." (99094173)

    We liked everything, especially the staff. They were some of the best we've ever met. All of them.

    Room was not ready for us, we arrived at 1pm and was told our room would be ready by 2pm we came back at 2 and it was still not ready.the rush to get ready for the wedding was annoying!

    We thought the room was a bit on the small side.When you walked the floor boards made rather a lot of noise.You could also here the people in the next room walking up and down as their floor boards made a lot of noise as well.

    The location was superb, near to Tube etc. The reception staff were VERY friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and in a quiet location and non-smoking as requested on booking on-line.

    The room was a little on the small side and became hot during the night. We could not open the windows because of outside noise (which was not too loud but audible enough to keep us awake)

    the hotel is in an excellent position. It has an old world charm.

    It took forever to get a drink from the bar. The staff were very pleasant but there din't seem to be anyone around to manage them. We ordered ( and paid extra) for breakfast in our room. The first day went well but the second day when both of us had ordered on the menu hard boiled eggs found we were unable to eat either because they had hardly been warmed up.

    "Breakfast was very good but not included and so added 35pounds to tab. This made it quite expensive--well over 200pounds and I don't think it was worth this price. Location was good--Victoria one block and a half away." (3304583154)

    Clean, spacious for London and good shower/mattresses. Good location for tube, train.

    Concierge was arrogant and not helpful--full of attitude. Hallways very hot, despite very cool outside temp.

    "It seems a great location because of proximity to the Palace. In that regard, it is. There are locations which have more to offer a family with children of varying ages like ours. The castle mews is next door , which is nice. We did enjoy our stay. The hotel is lovely. The regular room is small compared to American hotels,but nice for a European room. The suite was very nice with a large bathroom. Wonderful robes are in each room.The food in the Library restaurant was delicious. Our times didn't work for the other restaurants. The bar area is nice and relaxing. It works for ordering a meal as well." (3304209282)

    The junior suite was lovely. There was a welcome snack when you arrived. The regular room was nice. It is a lovely hotel.

    The elevator is small and there is only one. That is fairly typical in a European hotel though.

    The location, ambience and staff were excellent.

    My wife and I both became ill, probably an intestinal bug of some sort. We had to extend out stay for two days which caused great distress at the front desk and a fair amount of indecision on their part. They offered to send us elsewhere, which was inappropriate and not well received. I, too, am in the hospitality business and have been for many years. I understand the predicament, but last in usually bears the problem, not a party that had already paid when asked and was a good guest.

    Room was clean and tidy, staff were helpful and friendly and the hotel was quite central and it was easy to get to the site we wanted to visit. Overall the accommodation was comfortable.

    The food was nice but it was cold when served! Also we were over charged for a meal we didn't have as the restaurant in our offer was closed! We had to argue a lot to get that taken off the bill and as a good will gesture the drinks were taken off the bill. I have since been charged for the drinks as they feel they made a mistake.
