excellent meals
long delay,45mins waiting to be called through for dinner,with no explanation or apology offered.Bose radio in room didnt tune in to radio4 and poor reception because no aerial, tv channels wouldnt pick up radio stations and not retuned to pick up channel 5.Overall temperature in room and hotel far too hot.General welcome and hospitality by management very false,most clients staying at this hotel are sufficently perceptive to appreciate a genuine welcome as opposed to the pretext for one!

"Clive and I stayed at the Rampsbeck a couple of years running roundabout 1988/89 (yes you read that correctly!). We loved the hotel then and it was only a spur of the moment thing that made us book in again for a night on our way back from the Scottish highlands.I was especially thrilled to see they had retained the services of the same head chef, no mean feat these days.We were not disappointed on our return to the Rampsbeck ,it is just as good ,if not better than before. The bedroom refurbishments are lovely and the food and service are just as good and or this level of accomodation I think its excellent value for the price.We would recommend this hotel to everyone and we have been lucky enough to stay in many top class hotels around the world .We certainly won't wait another 19 years before we return again!" We loved the location and ambiance at the Rampsbeck and in spite of the luxurious and formal air of the hotel ,the staff have just the right level of informality to make all guests feel at home.finally we have to mention the food which is divine, no need to say anymore!

Superb location, plush and well designed interiors, gourmet food, comfortable well furnished rooms, friendly staff.
The gourmet food was fantastic but not really suited to a protracted stay - rich, few vegetables, rather limited range of flavours and textures - so we regretted booking a half-board package for four nights.

Wonderful location, set in mature gardens overlooking Lake Ullswater. Our room was first rate, and very well appointed. Dinner was excellent too.

Fantastic hotel in a great location. Very attentive and efficient staff who made us feel extremely welcome. Fabulous food, lovely rooms and a wine list that makes War and Peace look like a Ladybird book! They even managed to get us a lake view table at dinner on a Saturday night which we only requested that afternoon. Ice cream and cheeseboard to die for, fab gardens and wine on the patio in the early evening was bliss.
None really, apart from temperamental shower but it wasn't that much of a problem and certainly didn't impact on our stay!

The location is very beautiful overlooking Ullswater lake. Mr & mrs Gibb, the former owners who stayed on to manage the property for the new owner, still act as if it was their baby: total dedication, love and devotion for the customer, a delight to experience.
Our first room (no.17) was a little bigger than a broom closet and although well equipped, located above a machine room of some sort. The next night -after complaining- we were put in room 7 with a view over the lake and total silence in the evening.

We recently stayed at this hotel in early June and having had such a wonderful experience the first time around decided that on our next trip to Ullswater we would have to return to the Rampsbeck. We were very fortunate that we were given an upgrade to one of the suites at the front of the building which had amazing views of the lakes and fells. As during our last visit the staff were very attentive and friendly. Each night we were totally spoilt for choice by the amazing food served in the restaurant. You know you are in for a treat just by the canapes served with your pre dinner drinks.

Staff were very efficient and some were appropriately friendly while others were less approachable. The food was excellent. The refurbished large double room was spacious and outstandingly clean with high quality comforts. Beautiful scenery on edge of Ullswater lake.
Our room very hot despite the weather being in the high teens centigrade. TV was mounted crooked and spoiled the excellent decor. The view wasn't really over the lake, as we were led to believe - just the garden. Very expensive drinks.

Excellent quiet traditional country house hotel in a beautiful location. Public areas and bedrooms stylishly furnished and extremely comfortable. Excellent restaurant serving food of a very high standard. Mineral water and fresh fruit provided in room. Staff friendly and attentive.
Room 22 no view whatsover,overlooked an adjacent building but didn't detract from the overall comfort of the room but would request a different room on a return visit.

Hotel staff and amenities were excellent.
The bedroom was extremely hot. Staff noticed this on turn down and provided a fan (good point), but even so it was still hot and hard to get to sleep.

The newly fitted bathrooms are a delight. The food,as one might expect with 3 AA rosettes, was probably as good as we have ever found,anywhere,and the service was attentive and polished. Only cost prevented us from extending our stay further !
A fridge in the bedroom would have been much more use to us than the ironing board and iron provided. Then we could have kept the free bottled water provided cool !

Easy to find but quiet, and beautifully situated overlooking Ullswater. Elegant but comfortable public rooms, beautifully furnished & well appointed bedroom overlooking the lake. Service excellent and very friendly. The food lived up to its three rosette rating.

I feel that the automatic piano, in the bar area, was a little loud. Also, indoors were, at times, quite hot. Having said that, I must add that these were but very minor points when compared to the overall pleasant experience.
