    room 120 was next to a pub or club that played very loud music till 2am making sleep impossible, will definately not be staying at this hotel again.

    The Staff at The County Hotel were all very nice. The houseKeepers who worked on the morning of Sunday 30th Aug were very accommodating as our cold water supply was very weak so my Wife & I could not shower in our room. The Housekeeper very kindly moved us to Room.

    Apart from the cold water supply in our room, the spider webs on each of the chandeliers on the staircases on each floor and the creaking floor boards, None. I wouldn't say they were bad points.

    Comfortable and convenient. Value for money.

    Shower not working (bath OK though) Breakfast rather chaotic, though perfectly edible, although we were first down so perhaps most people weren't expected for a little while.

    Good value for money. We only wanted a convenient cheap single night base for the Carlisle area, an dthat was what we got, at a reasonable price.

    The hotel building is best described as showing clear signs of former (and fading) glory.

    Clean, quiet, comfy bed, pleasant staff

    Shower not very good and couldn't turn off shower to run bath! room service menu on bed side table but room service not available!

    Check in quick and staff pleasant enough. General cleanliness of room ok

    Decor very tired. Bathroom dirty. Sealant etc in desperate need of renewal. Shower attachment was very tatty Curtains dirty. TV in poor state. Lift not working and one of party was disabled. Stairs very dirty. Corners not being cleaned properly.

    "The hotel is basic for the money and what you would expect, In general due to the price it would always be ideal for the younger parties. Wouldnt stay with a family, or elderly due to the stairs, It may be better during the week. My partner commented he'd just stayed in Carlisle's very own Faulty Towers." (107448619)

    Close to centre of town,

    Noise was bad, room was on the side elevation of the building this made all the noise echo through from the main street, clubs not closing until very early monrning, Stag party staying so they were running through the halls until 6.00am being sick and ringing the internal telephones.

    "Very pleasant and helpful Manager was the only high-point of our stay. This has little to do with the pluses and minuses for the hotel as a place to sleep and eat. If she went elsewhere the hotel would have little if anything to recommend it other than its proximity to the railway station." (107727174)

    Evening Manager/Receptionist was extremely pleasant and helpful. Hotel was close to rail station. Room was large. Bathroom was good. Had a lift but this only operated under control of Manager, not a general resident lift.

    The "full english breakfast" in bain-maries in the morning looked gross; "steamed" fried bacon, grey eggs, overdone sausages, well-steamed mushrooms and baked beans. Very unappetising. Continental breakfast was also ordinary. The young lass serving was hopeless. Toast burnt. Surly response to request for fresh toast. The bed was beyond awful!!!! Windows rattled all night. Missing closures on windows. Even those with closures were difficult to secure.

    The room was spacious.

    There was a bad smell in the hallway going to our room. The hotel could be beautiful, but has not been kept up. It has an appearance that is drab and dull.

    "(Please note. I have put myself down as a solo traveller because that is the nearest category in the box. In fact I had arranged to meet my sister for a couple of days. So "overnight stay" was not quite right either but the nearest I could get. I think you ought to have an "other" category. Our stay was very pleasant, as the staff were so helpful" (107718490)

    "No heating in bedroom for the two nights, despite letting staff be aware, however, they did give us a portable heater. Really good price for the stay, and overall the Hotel was clean." (107847870)

    Nice size rooms and bathrooms, generally staff were friendly. Good location in city centre.

    Great value for the money. We were not expecting great things for the price but was pleasently surprised. Very late check in handled very well.

    Dated decor and holes in sheets. Breakfast very expensive in relation to cost of hotel, got it in cafe across road.

    Helpfull and friendly staff

    Doorbell not working properly making it very difficult to enter hotel at night. Directions to car park could be better. Especially as the main access road was closed on Friday night.

    we enjoyed our stay at the county as usual, we have stayed here a few times since we got married in gretna 5 years ago.

    the only bad point we have is that our room was very noisy on the friday night as we were facing botchergate.

    very clean and tidy, free parking on site right in the centre of Carlisle. Good value for money

    finding car park was a bit tricky at first a map/better directions would have helped.

    Hotel staff were excellent most helpful

    Lift could only be operated by staff which meant having to walk down 4 flights of stairs to get them to fetch it up. We had a baby with us the travel cot provided was dirty and broken. The room was upstairs so we had to carry buggy upseps to room all the time. room was dirty and didnt get cleaned throughout the weeknd. Rooms were on the busiest nighspot street in Carlisle and noise and fighting until 02.30 everymorning was appaling. Double glazing inadequate as outside windows were stuck and painted open. Room was above a bar and next to a Kebab /Pizza take away and stank of food all the time.

    Staff were excellent - very friendly and helpful. The hotel was very clean including the room we stayed in. The location of the hotel was excellent, very close to shops and bars, and eating places.

    The hotel is in desperate need of re-decoration as the decor looks old and worn. Some wallpaper peeling off the walls in the bedroom. The bed was awful, all you could feel on lying down were the springs. We expalined to the night staff about the bed, and asked for some blankets or a quilt that we could use to lie on, which was brought to our room very quickly.

    "As its a town centre Hotel getting to it on a dark & raining night is a problem..Good directions are the key for solo travellers. To get to the parking area at the back of the hotel also is some thing to be aware of..As always when you have done it , its easy." (97151435)

    The Check in staff very helpfull

    Difficult to use the shower,but the bath made up for this.

    Location which was central to the town.

    The room was far too big and empty and had very poor furniture.the sofa and chair were terrible quality, very old, too low and uncomforatble and there was no over head light above the bed to read by! The light was in a sheltered space behind a WALL NEXT TO THE BED. TERRIBLE LIGHT!
