    Great breakfast. Very helpful staff. Bar prices were very competitive and the restaurant food was quite good.

    Stayed a Friday night - VERY loud music until 11:30 pm we were not warned about but, after that, a very peaceful nights sleep.

    Hotel staff very friendly and helpful

    Overall experience only classed as 'GOOD' because when we arrived back to the hotel after a day out we founf the hotel was holding a rock band festival ! We had intended to have a relaxing evening meal and a quiet evening in the bar. Persons attending the rock band as expected to be were loud and some of them were in very high spirits.

    Room was very clean and pleasnt. Hotel in nice position and very friendly/ helpful staff. very cheap public transport from front door into City.

    The room was nice but VERY HOT the radiators were on full blast. The staff were great but we felt they were understaffed as one person at the bar had to do everything and boy was he/she busy. There was a function on Saturday evening and we returned but when we tried to get a meal we were refused because of the function. We could have been advised prior and we could have eaten elsewhere

    Very nice bar and restaurant area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. the service in the restaurant was excellent and the food was first class.

    The standard room was fairly small and some fittings were requiring attention/replacing. Old television with only 5 channels.

    Friendly helpful staff, good atmosphere.

    TV limited channels and not tuned correctly. There does not seem to be a set standard for the room ie no biscuits on tray for the second day, bat mat for bathroom floor appeared on second day.

    Adequate grounds to accommodate ample parking without being intrusive. Excellent bar/lounge area. Large, comfortable dining room, well laid out. Good selection available on bar and a la carte menus. Very obliging staff. Clean well decorated bedroom. Excellent breakfast and excellent all round value.

    Cannot think of a single thing.

    "the hotel was set in an lovely setting and the grounds were kept well.it ewas easy to find and although we did arrive early we were accomodated immeadiately, with the hotel staff on duty very helpful and imformative on local travel to edinburg.we ate dinner which was very good, but my wife did not fancy anything on the menu but a quick chat with the chef and she was presented with another choice and we enjoyed."     central location, my son stays in penicuik and it was accessable from all angles of the town

    It was a nice old house with character that has modern heating and bathrooms. The decoration was 1st class as was the quality of the bedding etc. The staff were professional and friendly.

    The quality of the food in the restaurant in the evening was poor. I was presented with inedible beef and Yorkshire pudding and a tasteless mozzerella and tomato salad.

    "We requested a suite. This was more of an oversized room with pull out sofa bed. The bedding was far from appealing and would suggest a full overhaul of the hotel rooms. The bar and dining areas were well maintained and the staff that were on duty (however limited) were very friendly and helpful. The position of the hotel was fantastic." (99433118)

    Service and staff were excellent; friendly and helpful. Room very comfortable.

    My only criticism was that the cushions and some of the furniture upholstery had unpleasant stains - the cushions so much so that I had to discard them and couldn't use them.

    I enjoyed the down to earth feel to the hotel and attitude of the staff, very pleasant indeed.

    i noticed that there were a few minor detractions....no toilet paper and a few mold spots visible in the bathroom, the curtains weren't secured on the tracks properly, though the huge comfy bed and general feel and decor of the room were lovely!

    "This was a very pleasant stay once we realised that dining would not be a memorable event. This does not reflect on the staff who were present but rather on hotel policy which would appear to make it impossible for the staff to do their job properly. To have one member of staff responsible for serving the dining room and a very busy bar where meals were also being served was unfair both on the member of staff who was, quite literally, run off his feet, and on the customers who had to wait for long periods for service. I realise that on this occasion a member of staff had called in 'sick' b ut to leave on man on his own unacceptable. I have to say that the member of staff concerned (David), did a magnificent job and should be being rewarded as opposed to having to suffer the abuse and criticism that should more properly have been directed to the hotel policy of understaffing! This hotel is a lovely, country house hotel which should be playing on its strengths of friendly and helpful staff and not running them ragged to a poin t where they cannot do their jobs properly."     The rooms were extremely comfortable - more so than some of the similar standard hotels from other 'chains'. The staff were obliging although overworked and the dining facilities were not up to the standard of the rooms.

    The dining area did not reflect the standard of the rooms. I would have expected a hotel of this calibre to have a dining room which did not resemble a transport cafe in its furnishings. i would expect to have dinner from a table set with tablecloth and properly set out cutlery.

    "Feather Duvet, I do not know the percentage of people that are allergic to feathers but it should be something stated in the hotels review. However it did not stop us enjoying our nights stay." (3304601704)

    Friendly staff and pleasant surroundings with regard to the countryside and the fine village of penicuik. The famous Roslin Chapel of Devinci Code book is not more than 5 minutes drive away.

    no hand controller for TV and Duck feather duvet as I am allergic to feathers. At the time of booking I did ask for the hotel to remove feather pillows but I must admit I made the mistake of assuming that there would be polyester duvets.
