    "I am being 'picky' here. In general the hotel was fine. Had a bit of a wait for our meal but they did have a wedding reception to cater for. The fact that I will almost certainly be staying there again at the end of January says it all (if they will let me!)" (108231528)

    Warm reception. Nice quiet room even though Friday night is Folk Night and a wedding reception in progress. Ample parking. Comfortable beds.

    The wash basin was in the room rather than in the bathroom. (This may not be the case in other rooms). The TV in the room was fine except it was fixed 5ft up the wall. Being an LCD screen the only way to see a good picture was to stand up in front of it. The ability to swivel it downwards so we could view it lying in bed would have been good. The hotel advertised wi-fi available. It didn't say in all rooms but the assumption was made. Turns out it is only available in the bar/reception area. One of the lamps over the bed was not fixed properly to the wall. Rubbish frothy beer but then its Northern brews!!

    rooms were nice / clean and spacious Food was excellent as well as the service

    a loud birthday party which included a band and artificial smoke which set the alarms off resulting in having to leave the rooms for a half an hour did ruin the evening.

    "We were there for a wedding. I would not recommend it to anyone. The buffet was dreadful and over priced and the function room dark and seedy. Drinks were fairly priced. We have stayed in far nicer hotels for less money." (107787331)

    Lovely view out of the bedroom window.

    The room was very small and the pillows on the bed were very thin. The light over the bathroom mirror did not work. Dirty crockery was left on a dresser on the landing all the time we were there.

    Good hotel, very friendly staff, food excellent. Hotel is in a lovely setting beside the river. The decor was lovely and the hotel was spotlessly clean. The bed was extremely comfortable and I slept very well indeed.

    "The hotel is within easy access from A1, very good place for horseracing fans. I was impressed by attitude of landlords and staff, as we had to set of an hour before breakfast was served, we were give bacon sandwiches on the departure, lovely start of the day :) I will come back there for sure."     The friendly staff made my son and i very welcome and we also enjoyed dinner. in the morning we had an excellant breakfast prior to departure.

    Hotel was in middle of refurbishment when we stayed, but still good. Atmosphere you would expect for a 500 yr old dwelling! Would be lovely in summer, food was first class and the staff very friendly.

    "Good hotel for those interested in Racing - hotel just opposite Catterick Racecourse. Handy for Richmond and surrounding countryside. As before - a real Yorkshire welcome. Hotel undergoing renovations at present but this did not inconvenience us." (97808383)

    Friendly,helpful staff - nothing too much trouble.

    Room a little small - but only to be expected in an old building.

    "The hotel serves the race course directly opposite - whether you find it busy or quiet will be tied to the race days. Otherwise, very convenient to get to, good views from the rear of the hotel, and lovely furniture and architecture with hand made door fixings, carved lintels etc." (97840321)

    The building and furniture are beautiful, if you value genuine old coaching house decor.

    The bar menu was limited (one vegetarian option)

    the view of the River Swale and the bridge and the garden

    very old, carpets smelled fusty, there was no real hot water, it remained tepid despite staff assuring us it would heat up

    The location within area

    Hotel is run-down and badly needs renovating. Overpriced for what is offered. Breakfast best part of the stay. Helpful and well cooked.

    "Excellent place to stay-doesn't use any poetic license in terms of location to racecourse. Nicely decorated-very clean and tidy. Only negative comment are the breakfast times-would be nice if breakfast was available until 10am rather than 9 for those of us who like a little longer in bed." (99460163)

    Fantastic location for the races. Nice bar & the room was excellent. Very tastefully decorated with a king size bed.

    "The location of the hotel is perfect for an overnight stop after attending a race meeting at Catterick Race Cource. Our Double room was a good size and clean,however the food and the room rates at this hotel are a little on the expensive side. For a one off overnight stop this hotel is OK." (99072187)

    "The hotel would serve well as a tourist one night 'stop over', but if staying longer (with slightly more luggage) room space would be a major issue. As a business traveller, I found it it totally inadequate. The armchair was squashed in between the bed, the old fashioned kidney shaped dressing table and the window, with no space to do any work. Also, in order to plug in the kettle lead, the kettle had to be perched right on the edge of the table behind the swinging mirror, which is a major Health & Safety risk. The bar was roomy engough to work from, but was more like a smokey 'Public House' than a hotel bar. The lack of an internet facility was also a big drawback." (99417535)

    The restaurant had a very good menu and the food excellent.

    The smallest room I've ever seen, kept tripping over my luggage. It was impossible to watch the TV, which was 6ft off the floor directly in front of the armchair, and no space to do any work.
