    The hotel was booked at a special rate of about half price. As such it represented excellent value but would have been overpriced at the full rate. Location and surroundings very peaceful.

    Limited menu choice, some items over expensive. Only basic selection of 4 tv channels

    "A less than satisfactory experience and very poor value for money. It is the only time that we have had to use a kettle to suppliment the temperature of bath water in a hotel. It is also the only time that I have refused a cooked breakfast because of the quality the previous morning." (108849281)

    Clean and friendly, good location and grounds, quiet.

    Uncomfortable hard lumpy bed. Very limited hot water, often tepid only. Cooked breakfast had overcooked scrambled eggs and undercooked bacon.

    I was very displeased to find that, despite calling after making my reservation over the internet to make sure that both rooms had twin beds and being assured that this is so, when we arrived there was only one room with a twin bed, meaning that my daughter and her mother had to share a double bed. This was SERIOUSLY UNACCEPTABLE and ruined the entire tone of the stay. I would not stay again at the hotel unless the reservation system is overhauled!

    Evening menue choices could be improved upon, with more variation throughout the week (cannot please everyone!)

    Lovely setting, very relaxed environment

    Directions gave that the hotel was situated on the Northbound A1 when it is in fact on the Southbound side. We initially missed it and had to continue North until we could cross over and come back to it.

    the evening meal was good but expensive, most options required the purchase of chips,vegs etc as £2.50 extras, dining service was good, the hotel was in a somewhat isolated position within easy access of the costal pathway

    the downstair lounges were comfortable, well furnished and pleasant. the bedroom was on the small size and somewhat "tired"

    The staff were all very friendly

    Evening meal could have been better. The pie was served with no pastry and we were not offered bread rolls on arrival although other couples were. We ordered a bottle of wine which was left at the table and not poured for us.

    Large room and bathroom for little money (40 pounds).

    No freeview TV, only channels 1-4, breakfast disappointing, wedding reception going on till midnight on Saturday (but they did warn me). Shower had low maximum temperature set

    Hotel staff very friendly. Hotel was excellent as was the price we paid .

    could have done with a couple of lights at the entrance of the drive. Driving on a dual carriage way we nearly passed it in the dark. This is not a complaint mearly passing a comment

    Nice surroundings. Friendly, helpful staff. In easy reach of various local attractions e.g.Alnwick, Holy Island,Bamburgh Castle,the Farne Islands and Berwick.

    Poor TV reception. Split level dining area (at Breakfast time). Only one Wine List(?)

    Hotel very pleasant, welcoming and comfortable. Bedrooms excellent. A good experience and one I hope to repeat again.

    Not really a particularly bad point, just that the dinner menu was a bit "pub grubbish", the menu was more or less what one would expect in a pub,not a hotel of this quality. That said, the breakfast was excellent (smoked haddock and poached eggs) although, bizarrely, there were no old fashioned Corn Flakes or Rice Crispies among the many boxes of cereals on the buffet table.

    I thought the location was fantastic and the building itself was beautiful - breakfast was very nice too - it was close to berwick upon tweed and most attractions were close by...

    I thought the decor in the bedrooms was very poor and some of the lught fixtures were loose and the shower didnt, work properly - also we had some fire alarm went off in the middle of breakfast, we had to leave our breakfast and go outside , noone explained , and the staff were overheard complaining that they hadn,t had there wage slips?? also our breakfast was cold when we got back in and noone said anything ....i enjoyed my stay but it didn,t have the wow factor.......

    A good location handy for the A1. Pleasant grounds and views. Relaxed atmosphere. Spacious rooms.

    Noisy extractor fan in bathrooom. Old fashioned sash windows difficult to operate. Staff friendly but inefficient eg."newspaper will be delivered to your door" - in fact we had to collect it from reception, "all desserts are cold" in fact apple tart was hot and wine was poured into my wife's glass which already contained water, the wrong cutlery provided etc

    The bar was poorly stocked with a large range of quality whisky bottles on the shelves which mostly turned out to be empty and only for display, short dated bottled Budweiser (3 days)and only half the draught lagers available. No food available on saturday afternoon despite the fact that there is a menu in the rooms for room service and the chef was sitting at reception in uniform when we enquired.

    Nice and quiet Good breakfasts Had one evening meal which was good

    Mistake made on final bill, which was corrected when I noticed it. Told on arrival that there were plenty of walks in hotel grounds, if so hard to find. The weather was very hot, and the room window did not open enough for fresh air to circulate. The interior corridors of the hotel acted as a heat sink and the room was uncomfortably hot at night.

    The location and ambience of the hotel were wonderful. The food was good. The room was good. Staff were good over all.

    The only thing that we did not like about the stay was the coffee. It was either too weak or had grounds in it when poured. On the last day we ordered tea with every meal and it was fine.

    The staff were very friendly and gave us a warm reception. The check-in was very well-organised and smooth. The room was lovely - spacious with excellent facilities, especially the bathroom which was very well decorated, clean and again spacious. The breakfast was delicious.

    "We would recommend this hotel to anyone, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful, the choice of food was impressive and we will definately be returning in the future. The surrounding area was tranquil and the nearest town / pub, was only a short taxi ride away and very good value for money." (99208803)

    The staff were extremely friendly, and accommodating. The service they provided was exceptional, and we cannot praise them enough. The choice of menu, range and quality of food was fabulous, well presented and cooked to prefection.

    The bed was not as comfortable as home and smaller than we were use too!
