    clean,helpful staff,friendly,rooms clean bathroom clean

    ordered 4 coffees sat morning 11am waited 35 mins coffee caame in glass which was too hot to hold should have a cradle.went into town came back after 1 hr dirty glasses still there.

    10 free new movies in room. free pool downstairs and free wii access. very comfortable beds.

    on arrival was asked for an extra £50 a night deposit, however there was no mention of this on the website and i didnt have that extra money with me, but they did let us off without paying it.

    nice room, good location, nice late breakfast time, welcoming receptionists

    issue with the room as i booked two night with two references numbers. took ages to sort out and had to re-explain it to 3 different receptionists. Billing process - had I not queried the bill, I would have been overcharged £100

    "Penta have tried to change a good standard hotel in to a trendy nightclub cum boutique hotel. This has failed entirely (presumably why the hotel appeared to be empty - I have stayed here for years and it has always previously been buzzing). The previously friendly staff have been replaced with a young team who don't seem to be able to communicate. They are also breaking fire regulations as there are no fire procedures shown in rooms or public areas - they will be closed down if the fire inspector gets wind of this." (108321900)

    Very clean, facilities all 'worked'

    Hotel has been refurbished by Penta - they've turned a good standard, welcoming hotel into a trendy 'nightclub' style place with accommodation. I booked a double room through your site to be told on arrival that there are no double rooms any longer in this hotel - I therefore insisted on a reduction in my fee. After a long 'discussion' this was agreed. Luckily I asked for this in writing as when I checked out the staff tried to charge me for the full price for a non-existent double. The downstairs is no longer suitable for relaxing over a drink and meal due to the low flourescent lighting and stark decor. The bedrooms have been designed by a failed, first-year design student - the chairs are stylish but of no use to sit on, the trendy leather table is too small to use and too large and high for a foot stool, the trendy open shoe box style wardrobe looks stylish but holds very little - bizarre decor

    Breakfasts were very good. The staff were very helpful. The only minor problem was that one of the lifts wasn't working but this not not ditract from an overall very enjoyable weekend.

    The hotel was under ronovation and noone inform us. I have paid about £100 for 3 hours sleep.

    I have arrived at the hotel at 4.00am and I have found out that the hotel was under renovation.I decided to stay for a night and the receptionist he was asking me to sign a visa aproval for £800 saying that this was a deposit in case I take breakfast or I do not no what. I had refused and then he push me to pay in advance for the night thing which I did. When I have made to the manager a complain in the morning he said that because I have already paid he could not make me any discount.

    "Enjoyed stay, not sure the hotel should be classed as 4* as wallpaper looked very dated in halls and room, felt they should have put breakfast in the rate considering all the building work that was going on, think customers would appreciate a bit of honesty rather then turning up to a hotel and being surprised that all the lobby is boarded off due to building work, I have stayed before when it was previously renaissence and they had a lovely large bar and restaurant, not sure if this is still the case as it was all boarded off."     The check in staff were very polite, even though we had a smoking room the room didnt smell of stale fags as we thought it might. Room nice and clean and decent size and was impressed at amount of channels available.

    The hotel is going through a re-furb so looks a bit like a building site, would of been nice to be advised prior to arriving that all this work was being done as I think I would of gone for a different hotel. The pillows were very uncomfortable, me and my partner had terrible back ache in the morning and the view was a lot to be desired.

    Local to train station.

    Parking is a fiasco! Hotel was about 20 degrees too hot for the first week! Fridge didn't work and was never fixed or replaced. Hairdryer was falling off the wall.

    Very friendly staff particularly on the welcome desk. Large, clean and nicely decorated rooms with a sofa, table etc.

    The Spa is not open all the time and not on weekends at all. The car part is a walk away and you have to remove your car by 10.00am or it will cost

    "Health suite could have been much cleaner. I think this hotel is more like a 3 star rather than a 4 star. Other than this the hotel is in a good location within reading." (107905024)

    Staff were very helpful and friendly. Room was fairly clean, although not overly impressed - pictures on the website are deceiving. Our room was not like those on the website.

    Health suite and changing rooms were very dirty. Dirty towels scattered on the floor in changing rooms. Floor around swimming pool looked like it had not been cleaned - hairs near the steps. Limescale built up around the filters in the pool.

    "While the staff were generally very helpful, the hotel appears in need of many repairs and modernisation to cope when local events lead to it being full. Since the hotel's policy on children sharing rooms with parents indicates this can be catered for, they should consider allocating larger rooms to those who have booked rooms for more than two. I would prefer to pay a small charge for this rather than have 4 nights in a room which was really too small for the purpose. " (97161821)

    Staff were polite, helpful, efficient and dealt with problems quickly.

    Having requested an extra bed for 13 yr old child on the active hotels website and phoned to check this would be made available, it was not in the room on arrival. The room was booked as a "Deluxe double" I had read reviews that indicated these were large double rooms and given that there were three of us to share the room I was surprised we were allocated a basic smallish double. The roll away bed we were provided with was very squeaky and uncomfortable. The window would not open, and the plug in the sink did not seem to work properly. One of the lifts was out of order throughout our stay and with the hotel full, this led to delays getting in and out of the hotel.

    we were expecting single beds and got double. it was very cost effective, and we were able to have a lie in in the morning.

    our hair dryer was damaged so took ages to dry our hair. we would have liked to have breakfast there but found it was very expensive when the town prices were around

    Was very impressed with room size

    Staff seemed to have total lack of care for guests . We arrived just after 9.30pm after our train was delayed, we were then told we could not check in to the hotel as the computer systems were down, but being a receptionist myself, surely they would have a list of available rooms, or even have a room allocated on the arrival form!!! Reception staff were not at all sympathetic, and told us to wait in the bar until the computers were back up again (a complimentary drink would have been a nice way to apologise!)

    Staff were very rude when checking in. Stated i did not have a room, even when i showed them my confirmation. My room was not a deluxe room. I have written a letter of complaint to the hotel.

    The hotel had all the facilities you would expect from a 4* and we got it at a bargain price. Much of it appears to have been refurbished, giving a clean and well polished impression. Free "pay" movies was a nice bonus.

    Staff at reception didn't know anything about the attached Millennium Spa and didn't want to go out of their way to find out for us. Location of car park is ridiculous - a good 10 minute walk with heavy bags was not pleasant. Staff told us that we could have pulled up outside to drop off our bags before parking but I noted that other people who did that had their bags left unattended in the foyer - not a good idea in Reading. Breakfast was very expensive and there was no option of a cooked breakfast via room service - I would expect this in a 4*.

    "The hotel needs a makeover. A fresh coat of paint and the replacement of carpets and furniture would make a huge difference. The carpet in the 2 rooms I stayed in were disgusting, very worn/travelled and i refused to walk in the room in my bare feet. The furniture in the rooms are outdated and very basic and the general appearance of the hotel is not inviting in the least. The staff seemed friendly enough and the leisure area was the best part of the hotel. Something would need to change before considering staying at this location again. " (97157133)

    The lobby provided a place for our group to gather. Bar, TV were good features.

    Air conditioning was horrible, Mattresses were horible, Breakfast buffet & coffee was bad, room was not very clean, pull out bed had a urine stain on the mattress pad.
