    The location is great and very pretty

    The food, particularly breakfast, is abysmal - I have never had grey/green scrambled egg before!

    Lovely setting, nice bar and restaurant with friendly and efficient staff

    Do not leave your window open at night with the light on. You will be invaded by flies althought this is not the hotels fault and just a result of being near the river. Important for those with long hair and who use make up....there was no plug near a mirror.

    "We were very impressed with the hotel. Unlike many similar places that do weddings we did not find this spoilt our vist. Our booking was for a standard double as, at the time of booking this was all that appeared to be available, however we were upgraded to an Executive Room in the Clock Tower which was good. The surrounding area made for a very pleasant stay and we hope to be able to stay again in the near future. James Abel Smith & Alice Milloy from Yorkshire." (107659213)

    The food we had was very good and the staff were great too.

    We had stayed at the Great House at Sonning at Christmas time and found it a most enjoyable visit so we came back again the whole family (three rooms) and once again it was perfection

    The stay did not last long enough but joking apart perhaps a few more milk sachets in the rooms and not as many creams that was my only dislike not really a serious matter is it?

    Apart from a lack of mobile phone reception everything else about the hotel was good

    Mobile phone reception not working in room and lots of parts of the hotel, as I was standby during my stay this could have potentially caused problems.

    Friendly, helpful front desk, nice well equipped room

    no spare pillows (supplied ones a bit flat for my liking) and coffee/tea at breakfast is reliant on staff topping up. Could live with that, but no milk supplied so every cup required an unnecessary walk to the cereal section. Breakfast staff inattentive to this.

    Efficient courteous staff, very friendly, knowledgeable and accommodating Excellent food, offering good value for money

    Difficult to fault except that I found my particular room to be a bit warm and stuffy even with the windows open. Having said that, the weather conditions were particularly humid during my stay so perhaps that contributed.

    "Sonning is a picturesque village and the hotel was very close - as your site indicated- to the Theatre - the hotel was very good - just a shame that the room was inches from a very busy road - the 20mph speed limit didn't seem to make much difference- i would phone hotel next time to ask for a quieter room" (107201715)

    Breakfast was cooked to order and was very good and the room was larger than the average

    room was right on a busy main road and as it wasn't airconditioned the windows had to be left open - very noisy!As the road through Sonning was closed a little further on it was quieter than it would have been - apparently

    The check-in area was very depressing and gave a poor impression of the overall facilities. It was unclear where to find the check-in area and when we found it, it was very unwelcoming. Didn't really seem like we were checking in to a real hotel. The breakfast buffet was also poor.

    The way the staff helped organise flowers and champagne to be in our room on arrival. Quality of food and service. The location was beautiful by the river

    I stayed in the Hideaway. The room was very tired and needed decorating. The front door to the hideaway was constantly slammed shut during the evening and morning and would benefit from an automatic arm to close it but gently!

    Beautiful setting on the banks of the river. Full of quaint character in the cottage accomodation we had.

    As the accomodation we were allocated was extremely old with lots of beams, wonky floors and ceilings the soundproofing was not up to much. All was great until the guests in the room above came in late at night. They were not deliberatly being noisy but every footstep was accompanied but tremendous creaking and cracking from the floor boards above our heads. They turned on their tv and it sounded as if it was in our room.

    "We were very impressed by the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff. The location by the River Thames is very lovely and good for more able people who would have been able to take better advantage of the position. Parking was easy and convenient." (97003624)

    We asked for a room with a view of the river, which was beautiful. Every need was catered for by obliging staff. We were warned about possible noise from two wedding parties and offered a quieter room. We decided to stay put and use earplugs. This solved the problem.

    Lack of a lift in our building... but we had been warned.

    "Beautiful location, and one I would return to as a leisure traveller. Hotel staff are friendly. Not able to rate the food on this trip as I was dining out and took no breakfast (it would have been good to have the breakfast served before 8.00 even if it was the weekend).     "All round reasonable value for money given the location and very convenient for me (very close to Reading and road links). Not very much in the village itself other than a rather up market restaurant and a pub.A very busy road running through the village to the Thames bridge,which seemed fairly congested most of the time."     The location was excellent (right on the banks of the Thames) in a very pretty village.The hotel was nicely fitted out and the staff were very efficient and friendly.

    The room itself was slightly 'worn' e.g.torn carpet and the bar prices were pretty steep.

    "The bar and restaurant both serve good food. What is nice is there are two bars with nice seating with books and newspapers. You could find a corner and relax somewhere outside of your room, which is not always something that you get when you stay away on business. The rooms are decent with clean up to date bathrooms. Little things like a reasonable iron and ironing board also make a decent place to stay on business." (97312451)

    "The Hotel is smart in appearance, but is spread over a number of buildings, so venturing outside is required for access to the bar & resturant if you are not staying in the main building. I need to negotiate slippery path and car park during cold & icy weather, so ended up not using the facilities in the evening. There was mini bar in the room. My morning alarm call was cancelled by the staff by mistaken on my second nights stay, so I over slept and was late for my meeting in the morning. Facilities were adequate except for a noisy extractor fan in the bathroom, which would remain on for 10 - 15 mins after switching off the bathroom light. I am glad I recieved a discount via the webstie, otherwise it would definitely not have been value for money." (97366362)

    Alam call cancelled by staff, by mistake - one hour late for meeting! (and had to miss breakfast) No mini bar.

    was upgraded which was a pleasant surprise. Warm, friendly atmosphere and good responsive service (my kettle didn't work but was replaced immediately). Lovely location which didn't have time to enjoy so would go back

    my room was a bit cold and radiator buried behind huge heavy curtains, but it wasn't uncomfortable
