    "Worst hotel I have ever stayed in. Unsafe as well as unsuitable. I have already written to their Operations Manager demanding a refund. Further action is inevitable if this is not forthcoming. Suggest you de-list this establishment. " (108619255)

    Staff tried their best in very difficult circumstances.

    Water actually running down wall of my room when it rained, generally damp, no useable lounge facilities, no phone in the room, TV not working, elementary catering, incredibly poor value for money.

    Access to town centre and restaurants was good.

    Hotel was dated, dingey, unappealing. Bathroom was smelly and damp. No parking avaialble other than a side steet. Cost was excessive for standard.

    "At £85/night for a double for B&B it was very over-priced. No shower really isn't good enough. And the photo of the external appearance must have been taken some time ago - it's not that clean and fresh in reality!" (108965319)

    Location wasn't bad re town centre; breakfast was better than anticipated

    No parking; no shower (hose to connect to the taps doesn't count - there wasn't a shower curtain); very tired decor;

    Charged 80p for a drop of Asda tonic water in a spritzer ,food tasteless ,I'd have been happy to pay more for a bit better,we had booked online and had no way of ensuring somewhere else on our way home or may not have stayed again

    The hotel was extremely clean and well presented inside. The warmth of welcome and customer care was excellent

    Only that the outside is a little off putting but in view of the situe, on the crossroads of a busy road, I can understand it is hard to keep exterior fresh.

    "Because of the hotels location it is an excellent base to explore the Lake District Area. The staff are friendly and helpful. We found the hotel was not value for money due to it's tired and dated look, its bland food and lack of decent entertainment. It would have been a nice touch for the hotel to provide complimentary toiletries other than a small bar of soap." (107291086)

    Staff attentive, cleanliness of hotel, excellent access to public transport.

    Poor complimentary toiletries,decor looked tired and required upgrading, food was bland and unappealing, Entertainment was very poor and not available some nights. Information was not available on entertainment unless you were traveling with a coach party which we were not.

    Hotel was clean, tidy and comfortable. Good bathroom. Freeview was a bonus.

    Lack of proper parking could be a problem, especially for guests who don't know the Kendal one-way system.

    Location is excellent. Just opposite to station which is really good. easy access to all the neccessary staff, resturant. The rooms are good and clean, tidy. very calm.

    FRIENDLINESS OF THE MANAGER. OFFER OF ASSISTANCE WITH GLUTEN FREE DIET FROM CHEF. ALSO SAW CHEF DISCUSSING HOW HE COULD HELP A FAMILY WITH SEATING FOR A YOUNG CHILD. ADEQUATELY CLEAN HOTEL AND ROOM.

    PARKING FACILITIES. WE UNDERSTOOD THERE TO BE PARKING NEAR THE HOTEL BUT HAD TO PARK A FAIR DISTANCE AWAY.

    We all enjoyed the hotel and found the beds comfortable,the service good and breakfast well done.

    The only comment that was negative from all the family was that the water tasted like stewed celery !!

    "Excellent. We have recommended it to all our friends and family. When we first pulled up outside we were concerned as it looks a tad shabby BUT as soon as we were inside we were treated like royalty and made very welcome and the decor was inviting." (107648064)

    The staff were brilliant, food excellent and nothing was too much trouble for the staff. The general manager had a brilliant rapport with the customers.

    the bed was very uncomfortable and needs a mattress topper to improve it. having recently bought one for ourselves we know how good they improve an uncomfortable bed!

    "Have also put a review on tripadvisor.com "Stayed at the County Hotel for two nights during the Mountain Film Festival as all other accommodation was already booked up. I can see why the County Hotel was the last to get filled. On arrival my partner popped in to reception to ask where the hotel parking was, and was told that was no hotel parking, and we had to find somewhere to park on the local streets! While checking in, someone else came in with the same parking question. The room was the same layout as any Travelodge, only smaller, with single glazed windows, no pictures on the walls, fewer TV channels, smaller bed, no hair dryer, etc. On our first morning, having returned to the room after breakfast, there was a knock at the door and we were asked if we wanted new towels, and we did, so she gave us new towels, but did not ask for our old ones. There was a sign in the bathroom saying that old towels should be left in the shower. When we returned to the hotel in the evening, our old towels were still in the shower, and the bed sheets had not been changed. The breakfast had limited choice and was of average quality, the porridge was very watery and comments were overhead from other tables about the poor porridge. If there is nowhere else to stay in Kendal then stay at the County Hotel, but I'd recommend trying one of the other hotels or guest houses first." Also, on returning home, my girlfriend realised that she had left her book on the bedside table. We have had no phone call from the hotel, and they have not posted it back to us! " (107443949)

    Bedroom and bathroom were clean and comfortable

    I requested a quiet room....allocated room was overlooking a main road. No-one on reception when i arrived....had to ring bell twice before anyone appeared. When checking out, staff more interested in taking staff photos than taking my payment. Dinner service only until 7.15....much too early. Previously opened/used individual preserve on breakfast table.

    Although I'd seen the hotel on the website, it was very different to how the actual hotel advertised itself. Not quite sure how they'd taken the photo but it looked nothing like! Considering, it's part of the GRAND HOTELS UK group, there was absoluteley nothing grand about it. Decor extremely dated and poor.

    Close to town centre easy to get to.

    No secure parking you have to park in station car park which was full so at times it was difficult to find a parking spot.

    "The hotel is centrally situated-opposite station in Kendal.It's on a busy road but we couldn't hear much traffic at night.Reception staff were very efficient and helpful.Breakfast was very nice,polite and friendly waitresses,pleasant room and super cooked breakfast.Our room was well-decorated.It's an old building with a few creaky floors.We would stay there again.Fair price for a double room with breakfast-" (97381371)

    The lift was a bit frightening and noisy!
