"The hotel simply isnt worth £110 per night" (108608386)

Hotel did not provide any dinner facilities even though its web site indicates that it does! The hotel is right next to a disco that noisily went on to the early hours on both the Friday and the Saturday. The bed had not been completely made up and we had to ask for pillow cases at 11 o'clock at night. Although we were asked what time we wanted breakfast, when we got to the breakfast room, the tables were not set up and it took 45 minutes from the time we asked for before any breakfast materialised. All the toiletries in the bathroom had been used by previous occupants

Nice large clean room, friendly service (special mention to the sunday breakfast waitress) and the food was great.

Rightly, We expected the highest standards in quality but it was fallen short of our expectations. Paticularly, we are disapointed at the breakfast. The inspection by the AA is not satisfactory." The room was nicely decorated. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The noise from both inside and outside, a disco going on next door until early hours, people congregating on the road making lots of noise, outside kebab house, chip shop and Indian restaurant. The hotel is also a restaurant so there was noise inside as well. I think that the price for these facilities is too high.

"Staff are always friendly and helpful. Have only had breakfast at this hotel, but love the fact that all the produce is from local farms / locally made. Good menu selection and very tasty." (99108346)

The building and it's history - lovely accommodation.

Not being able to stay longer!

"The hotel is in need of further refurbishment, the owners have made improvements but areas of both the interior and exterior require decoration and brightening-up. Although it was Sunday afternoon when we arrived, there should have been people on reception to greet guests, which, having registered, should have been escorted to their rooms -- we were not. We were aware that there was no restaurant facilities on Sunday evening, but were offered a cold plate, this turned out to be a chicken sandwich with some cold pasta/cole-slaw and sliced tomatoes and for which we were charged " (99330860)

the room was clean and had all the facilities as advertised, we were given a quite room as requested.

the decor was in need of refreshing and brightening up, the shower enclosure/partition was in dire need of cleaning, the toilet seat was dislodged and no heating in the bathroom apart from towel heating rail. the sash cord window in the bedroom was broken and could not shut properly. our room must have been over the kitchen extraction fan as cooking smells entered the room/s.

"This hotel was an excellent choice, the whole place is spotless, comfy bed, walk-in shower, tea and coffee in room, very cosy, lots of character, the proprieters and all members of staff are very helpful and curtious, nothing is to much trouble. The resturant is a delight with excellent food, very well cooked and beautifully presented, the ambience is second to none. Absolutely out-standing." (99115242)

Hotel was warm and inviting with a good atmosphere. Room was very comfortable, walk-in shower was excellent, spotless.

Very poor reception on mobile phone and poor and very expensive taxi service to and from hotel.

"The hotel is well placed in the High Street and has been attractively renovated. The staff were welcoming and the room was very cosy. I liked the touch of naming the rooms after women who had lived in the house. Breakfast was very nice. Overall, I liked the balance between feeling welcome and having my own space. I arrived on a Sunday evening which is the only night an evening meal is not available." (99101971)

"The hotel has been pleasantly displayed and sits well in the community of Chard. Local produce is used and the details of local sellers is displyed on the menus ... a nice touch. The staff were very friendly and chatty and happily made menu recommendations. We had the chance to meet and talk with the owner of the hotel, and he has a pride about the place and very knowledgeable about the local area and could make some interesting recommendations!" (3305254321)

The rooms were up to date and had good amenities. Great additional little touches like real shower gel, disposable razors etc in the room itself. Wi-fi connection throughout also a nice touch.

"I would stay at the hotel again and would recommend it to anyone. The staff could not have been more helpful, and nothing was too much trouble. The road noise between 11 and 12 pm was annoying, but not enough to stop me staying in the same room again. I stayed with 3 children under 6 and the family room is perfect with room still to move around." (3305057830)

The room was clean spacious and the decor was beautiful

The room was noisy from the road noise, but only when the pubs closed for 1 hour.

"This hotel is perfect for a romantic stay away or else just a short break within Britain. We stayed as a stopover on the way to Cornwall and this was just a good distance from the south-coast to Chard to break the back of the long journey. The friendly owner bought a delicious cup of tea which quickly made the journey disappear! The breakfast was superb and the bed/bedding was also first class. I felt like it was very luxurious surroundings and I wished I could have stayed longer! I will definitely return! Sarah and Peter T Seaford, Sussex" (3305123030)

The lovely surroundings in a beautiful village and also the comfortable house with antiques was wonderful!

"We stayed for 1 night and it was fine. We liked the cleanliness of the room and bathroom, all facilities were working. It looked fresh and tidy. We were allocated room Florence which was on the ground floor at the back. It was nice to see a little history of the house in the room information pack. The hotel staff were friendly and polite. I had mentioned in my online booking that it was my birthday and on our table at dinner there were some 'happy birthday' greetings sprinkled on the table, that was a nice touch. The food at dinner and breakfast was good quality, very tasty and well presented. The bread was delicious as was the home made conserve served at breakfast. A couple of minor points of constructive criticism: There was a put-you-up bed stored right outside Florence room. This does not give a great first impression to guests and made the entrance to the room quite cramped. There was quite a long wait between courses at dinner, the dining room was not fully booked so we thought the service could have been a little quicker. We did not like the background music that was playing in the dining room, it was quite unusual. We would have preferred light classical music which would suit the surroundings. As we were eating one of our courses, a member of staff came to clear up a vacated table behind us and sprayed 'pledge' on the table to clean it. It would have been better to wait until diners had finished eating before doing that. The trainee waitress at dinner went to the 2 other occupied tables with our main course before realising they were ours, perhaps numbering the tables would avoid this." (3304817765)

The hotel was clean and tidy and the decor was in keeping with the Georgian period building, soft furnishings were of good quality.

Double room was smaller than it looked on website, did not like the put-you-up bed that was stored right outside the room (Florence)

To include breakfast in charged price - £9 and £6 is a lot to pay on top of accommodation.

"What a tremendous little hotel. Cosy and very friendly. Betty and Dennis went out of there way to accomodate our needs. Thomas (The Chef) prepared superb meals, from purely local produce. This would be the only restaurant I know, where you can trace the origins of each ingredient back to a localfarm. Outstanding place. I would recommend BellPlot House to any of my friends." (2866918)

Small cosy hotel. Cute rooms that were very large. Thoughtfully decorated and dressed.

    It was generally very comfortable

It would have been good to have soap provided. Bedside lights a little on the dim side for bedtime reading.

The freindlyness of the staff and owners nothing was too much trouble being a Coeliac on a Glutenfree diet i was admirely served with a menu to suit and such choice was great the little touches counted for a lot -nail varnish remover etc asking if we would like a later breakfast or a night cap Fantastic

As a Horticultralist in proffesion i would dearly like to have a go at the gardens as they need a little tlc but the ownwer did say they were behind schedule on the building

"The clearly high standard of the restaurant menu was not tried by us- we stayed overnight only. The friendly and professional welcome from the owners complemented the good attention to detail in the clean and welcoming rooms. We definitely felt that we were staying in the best place in Chard." (2584964)

Relaxed, friendly, helpful attitude and good rooms.

First Moments inpression is that the exterior needs more organisation - crashed motorbike and overgrown/weedy parking area is counter-culture to the friendly, welcoming interior and front garden.

"Get rid of the overwhelming 1960s pop music that dominates the whole of the downstairs. We have stayed at the Bellplot before, and love it, but the wonderful dining room and superb food is not enhanced by that music. It seems so at odds with the ambience of this smart little hotel. This may be a minority view, of course!!" (2393726)

    Friendliness, comfort, food.

Perhaps a little more could be done to the back garden where visitors park, just a few flowers in tubs would do it.

"I would recommend this place but just know the food is too pricey..." (2408205)

IT was confortable and clean. Nice energy about the place and our room had a nice and quiet view. Large window and confortable bed with nice bathroom.

The food. Too pricey for what you get. Bottles of items bought from TESCO's on the table does not look too professional. The one girl (employee) was excellent who checked us in and took our dinner order. Very good! The owners son though was a real downer. Did not seem very awake and professional in the morning for breakfast. Gave off the feeling that he was tired and couldn't be bothered nor seemed as if he did not want to be there. When my scrambled eggs came there was something in them.. looked like cooked pieces of chicken blended with the eggs. When I pointed it out to him he picked up a piece and tasted it ? and commented that it might be old eggs? or meat? I told him I was a vegetarian. The comments he made were extremely unprofessional. you don't say it might be old eggs? What does that say about this establishment and corners they might be cutting at the expense of quality to the customer who is paying an enormous amount for what they are getting. The new eggs he brought back were actually very good but his attitude was one of being tired and seemed to not want to be there and did not want to be doing it. Overall it is a nice place but definately the prices were too high for the quality of the food. The food was pretty good but too pricey for what you got.
