    Had breakfast first morning and could not go back again due to poor standard of food/cleanliness. Bed not made. Room facilities poor.

    The breakfasts were very good with good service.The staff were friendly and helpful

    The room was very cramped and the so - called exclusive bathroom seemed to be available to other guests.Plumbing noises could be heard along with other noises from guests in nearby rooms

    Room was clean, warm and the beds were comfortable and the choice of breakfast was good. The landlord was very helpful.

    Room was very cramped, en-suite very small, shower did not work properly. towels had to be changed because they were stained. Decor did not live up to the description of "beautifully decorated". Garish.

    The hotel was in easy walking distance of York centre and all the attractions. Situated in a quiet road but close to friendly pubs offering a good food menu. The hotel owners were friendly and polite and gave good recommendations of eating venues, the breakfst menu was really good in the hotel. We had a very enjoyable stay at The Beckett.

    "The owners were really friendly and we were made to feel welcome. The breakfast was excellent and the room comfortable. The location was good too as it was only a short walk in to the centre of York and there was adiquate parking on the street at the guest house. Although it was a bit of a shame that there were smoking rooms, as we found the smell of smoke unpleasent, on the whole it's really good value for money for the area." (99397601)

    It was unfortunate that other guests were smoking, as at times cigarette smoke got in to our room, as non smokers this was unpleasent for us.

    "We booked this accomodation based on its price which was fairly cheap, and its location, which was walking distance to the city centre. What I didn't know was that York is very compact and well sign posted, so it made for an ideal weekend away. I'd have liked to have seen information on local attractions and restuarants on the website, but in the end it didn't matter as York is littered with things like that. All in all, the hotel is very clean and tidy and run perfectly. If your looking for a place to stay in York while on a bit of a budget, then I'd definately suggest you try the Beckett Guest House."     "The Beckett is a very small guest house which was absolutely packed when I was there. I counted at least 10 other guests, so at least 11 in at the time. My room (No 1 - a single with ensuite) was so small I had problems moving my suitcase to a location that it could be opened, and following a shower, I needed to stand on the bed to use the towel effectively. It looked like it was built in the end of a stairwell where there was a gap big enough for a bed. On the otherhand, the owners were very friendly, the breakfast very pleasant and the walk to York centre pretty good. It was good to find a place in the UK that was smoke free and enforced. The Beckett is probably best suited to couples or people visiting York wih friends who don't need room facilities." (3304080309)

    "This hotel is a fair walk into York centre but this wasn't a problem. The only thing that made our stay unhappy was the amount of noise made by the people in the rooms next to us (between the hours of about 1 am and 4 am). But other than that we really enjoyed it." (2678835)

    The breakfast was lovely! Also it was a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere

    Parking could be a problem if arriving late afternoon, we had to park quite far down the road.

    "A very friendly guest house, with a family feel. The breakfasts were good and very hot. Ideal location for those who follow football being only 50 metres from York City FC. A quiet road, however, the on road parking a little difficult but permits are provided." (2691607)

    It was convenient for the city, and we were made to feel very welcome by the staff.

    Parking not great, the key pad on the outer door was not easy to operate especially for those of us needing glasses.

    "I found Beckett Guest House on the internet after the York Tourist Board had been very unhelpful in assisting me to find accomodation for 2 nights during a race week. We were not coming to York for the races and did not want to stay the 3-4 nights that many other hotels in York required. The Beckett Guest House came to our rescue. The Guest House was very nice and welcoming and the breakfasts were excellent. Great location too. Thank you we had a lovely stay." (2034018)

    The Beckett Guest House was very friendly and homely and comfortable. Staff made you feel very welcome. The ceiling fan in the room was very useful as it was hot during our stay.

    Being in a Terrace and close to houses at the back there was some noise, but difficult to avoid. I did find the use of air fresheners in the house a bit overpowering.
