    "It was very pleasant to be welcomed with a dram of whiskey. We found the staff extremely friendly, helpful and courteous. The room and bathroom were well equipped with modern fittings. The room was a bit of a walk from the reception but no problem, only got lost twice. The breakfast and dinner were very nice and reasonably priced in comparison with some of the local restaurants. The coffee machines that other reviewers refer to are absolutely wonderful and it was lovely reading the Sunday papers with lovely mugs of free coffee. Highly recommended." (99044286)

    "The staff were fantastic, the offer of a wee dram on arrival was lovely, and even though there were a couple of probs with hot water and tv the staff were reassuring and genuinely out to help, quickly resolving probs. The best service i've had in a long time and i frequently stay in city hotels for work who could learn a few things. Particularly liked the free bike hire - an excellent idea." (97903536)

    Was nice, modern, clean.

    tv didnt work so with no evening entertainment was in bed for 9.30pm! However, this was due to high winds damaging the arial.

    The welcome was very nice with the welcome drink. The hotel and grounds were impresive on first arival. We were moved to another room when we checked in so we would not be disturbed by a wedding. Thought this was very considerate of the front desk staff.

    cleanliness of the bathroom was not up to the standard i would expect from a hotel of this quality. Badly repaired celing where there was water damage but felt it was unfair to complaine as there was a big wedding.

    "It was good value for money,nice grounds and the weather was beautiful for the time of year.Staff very good felt they were a bit harrased in dining room but there was a wedding going on in the function room.Evening meal was nice steaks were excellent, breakfast was satisfactory felt the area where you get the cooked breakfast was very congested as the fruit and toast was in the same area.Possibly move that to the juice area.Overall very good."     There was not much of a view from our room considering it was such a lovely place,and the toilet paper was very cheap quality.

    Nice friendly hotel. The staff were very helpful. One of the benefits was the availability of Coffee / Tea in the Lounge and Conservatory area of the Hotel.

    The only small point was that the Hotel Rooms were very small.

    I thought the Hotel was excellent value for money the food was some of the best I had in any Hotel, with a fantastic setting thrown in.

    All good although the lift was a little slow Please renew the bit of carpet and paint the door entering the Kitchen not major but would help

    The staff were extremely helpful and friendly and made me feel very welcome. The room was very clean and spacious with a very large bathroom.

    The facilities were not great. The pool and jacuzzi were very cold and the sauna could not be used without waiting 20 minutes and requesting for it to be put on. However, this was not clear until you got to the pool area and there were no staff in that area to request use of the sauna.

    "An excellent hotel for a short break. Friendly staff, wonderful food, & a overall a very relaxing venue. The only hotel i have stayed in where they present you with an info sheet on the activities taking place that weekend when you arrive - thought idea of showing films in afternoon was excellent. Whisky tasting during rugby half-time was also a wonderful idea. Hotel is not near a main town & Peebles is a good 10-15 minute drive away so plan to eat in-house most evenings & not the place for you if you're looking for an activity-filled break. ideal for those looking for somewhere to kick back, relax & enjoy themselves. Excellent pool & gym facilities. Free hot drink vending machines situated in lounge & conservatory which was a very nice touch Above all, the staff were wonderful. They were always plesant, cheerful, helpful & polite - nothing was too much trouble." (99529405)

    Clean & comfortable with excellent housekeeping service.

    Expel-air in bathroom was broken so room did tend to become very hot & steamy.

    "Overall my stay was ok. The internet connection in my room did not work and although helpful the staff could not fix it. There was a training session for a large company on at the time I was there and the dining room did not have enough staff to accomodate the people on the course and the other guests. Reception and the bar was manned by the same person. On the positive side the hotel was clean and comfortable with friendly staff." (99344287)

    Good hotel, well located in the Scottish borders with good access to countryside and also 20 miles to Edinburgh. So a huge variety of things to see and do - something for everyone.

    Firealarm and evacuation of building at 8am - when will smokers realise that the smoke detectors work?

    "The hotel was in a very quiet area of country side, it was set out in a rustic garden with lots of features. On arriving at Barony Castle we was greeted by the manager and welcome'd to our stay. The room was set out with a modern feel and the veiw from the window overlooked the gardens and was very peacefull. The price really does not indicate the comfort of the hotel, as I will be visiting Barony again. Five stars *****" (3305120429)

    "The situation and environs of the hotel are most attractive. The standard of the meals, and the imagination of the chef(s) has to be admired and complimented. All staff were friendly, pleasant, and extremely helpful throughout my stay. The banning of smoking fom public buildings should not encourage smokers to congregate at the front door of the hotel. Other locations should be found and provided. Early deliveries of produce to the hotel (around 4 am !!!) was extremely disturbing while engines were left running for 15 minutes or so,and one or two people carried out a conversation in normal voices. Surely it is unusual and undesirable to receive tradesmens' deliveries at the FRONT door of a hotel, especially at such an early hour ??? This is a serious criticism which I hope will be taken as constructive and well-intended." (3305013739)

    Comfortable bed. Pleasant bedroom and bathroom. Extremely helpful and pleasant staff throughout.

    Noise from people congregated at the front door late at night.Several rooms adjacent to mine, appeared to suffer from creaking floorboards, which were fairly disturbing at times . These should be fixed.

    "When we arrived in the hotel, the room which had been promised to us was not what we were given, however, the staff could not have been more helpful in offering an alternative and let us look at the room before we decided to take it. The room we were given was lovely and had a lovely corner bath. The staff in the hotel were more than helpful and very friendly. The setting of the hotel is beautiful and peaceful, yet only a short taxi journey to Peebles. We will definately visit the hotel again, and have done previously. We would also recommend this to anyone looking for a chilled, relaxing break." (3305038119)

    "I thought the Barony Castle Hotel was excellent,the rooms, although not huge, were clean, modern and nicely furnished and more than adequate. The garden is lovely, we had great weather so we sat out at every opportunity drinking the free...yes FREE coffee that was on offer. It's the first time I have been in a hotel where they had coffee and tea making machines around the place where you could just help yourself to as much as you wanted, along with biscuits, cookies and in the morning a huge bowl of fresh fruit. The location is very peaceful and sitting out in the sunshine all we could hear was the sound of the river which runs through the grounds. Would we go back? Yes, definitely and would recommend it to anyone looking for an away from it all break." (3305071971)

The hotel is indeed very impressive, and is set in some fantastic grounds. Our room was rather basic, but had all the required facilities, and for a three star hotel, was very good value for money.     "All the staff were under pressure and appeared to be doing several jobs. The dining room staff have no idea what the customers require. Breakfast is supposed to be available until 9:00, but at 8:30 there was nothing left on the buffet. There were no tables set for breakfast. We had to ask for everything. It was like our arrival was a surprise to the staff. The delays at dinner were unacceptably long. The food was poor quality ingredients, badly cooked. No amount of grand descriptions in the menu, and fruity garnish, will compensate for basic bad practice. They need to stop trying to be clever and get back to basics - good quality ingredients, well cooked - then tart it up if you feel you have to." (3305025380)

    "Staff on checkin did not listen when I said I needed a room on a low floor and as it happened the lift broke down over night and I had to descend two flights of stairsn and ask for assistance with my luggage. The dining area was very poorly lit and warm. The food was acceptable, but not as good as I would expect for the money. Breakfast was awful there was a coach party in and there were very few staff on duty. I asked for hot chocolate, I do not drinkl tea or coffee, and this was of a poor standard and contained a dead fly. There was no point in complaining as there was no one to complain to."
