    Hotel in a prime situation. Not too far but not to close to local attractions (Metro Centre, Historic Towns etc) Hotel staff really friendly.

    The food was very good. Could not fault the young waiting staff.

    Disabled room booked a year ago was then given to someone else, we only found out at check in. My wife was unable to get washed as she could not step into the bath.Disabled beware.Booking and haveing confirmation does not mean you will get the room you book.

    staff very accomodating,nothing seemed to be too much trouble.

    found the beds in twin room quite narrow. bathroom toilet seat could probably done with being replaced. also kettle provided in room, was obviously quite old, which when you have spent a goodly sum on accomodation, is a surprise and disappointment.

    "I felt the rooms let the hotel down significantly. The hotel didn't have a friendly feel although the staff tried hard to be welcoming. The setting of the hotel means it has the potential to be great but it misses the mark because of the poor rooms. " (108647658)

    The staff at Longhirst were lovely and made a real effort with guests. The location was great as it was just off the A1 but felt very rural and quiet. The hotel was set in gorgeous grounds and we had a few lovely walks around. The restaurant food was tasty although we felt it was quite pricy. Breakfast was well stocked and staff were busy but efficient.

    The bedroom was one of the smallest I've ever stayed in and the room decor really let the hotel down. The bathroom was also extremely dated. The bed was very small and not the most comfortable hotel bed! There was little or no atmosphere in bar & restaurant.

    Nice grounds and easy parking, but not suitable for very young children if requiring a cot. Rooms, even superior rooms, are too small for comfort.

    I had to request toiletries to be put in my room - even though I was in a "superior room" I had to ask for soap. There are hidden charges. If you take room service you are charged £4.00 for tray carriage. This charge is not highlighted anywhere in the menu or in room serive information folder.

    the restaaurant menu was good and the food presentation good

    the staff were somewhat dis-interested in you as a guesr they seemed pre-occupied most of the time and appeared cold. The bathroom had a used dentistick on the window ledge and the shower head was broken.

    The Hotel is excellent, Food was excellent, Sarah in the restaurant (and all others), but Sarah inparticular was a pleasure to deal with and communicate with. Nothing was too much trouble.

    beautiful well kept grounds. good location.

    bedding had holes in, long queues for breakfast and not much left despite it being early still, understaffed, heating was on full whack despite it being incredibly warm anyway, towels not washed daily despite being left on the floor (rather the towel rail was turned on by cleaning staff to dry them). inadequete parking fcilities.

    slow service in restaurant on second night.wiited 20 mins main course only when it finaly arrived it was cold.The man in charge [tall dark scotsman]took it back to the kitchen ,it took a further 15 minutes to heat up. A bad experience for me .Iwas also charged for a pint of lager which i never had or ordered. A perfect stay ruined for me by the person alledgedly running youre restaurant'

    "We felt third class, the conference centre and council buildings having by far the best locations in this historic house conversion. Our superior room was stuck down long corridors with a tree blocking the view of the gardens and parkland. We were expecting an English Country House Hotel, the lack of atmosphere and guest facilities made it feel more like a University Hall of Residence" (107485513)

    Unable to park to off load bags at reception. Long walk from car park to reception. Another Long trek from reception to room which entailed 6 Fire Doors, 2 swing doors and one set of steps. No offers of help with bags. Plenty of indifferent staff Dreadful restaurant atmosphere and greasy breakfasts

    Clean & pleasant, friendly staff and a very relaxed atmosphere, excellent breakfast.

    Upon arrival we were given our key, unfortuanately upon entering the room it was already occupied by a guest, a very embarrasing situation, i returned the key and was given another room, the receptionist was most apologetic, mistakes can, and do happen.

    Food was excellent. All the staff were really friendly and polite and professional. The setting was beautiful. Had to call reception late in night to deal with a couple fighting in their room. Call was answered promptly and dealt with by the Porter quickly and efficiently.

    Could see where the mould had come through the wallpaper in the room. Bathroom required updating and didn't have an extractor fan. Room doors could do with being 'ANTI SLAM' as very noisy during the night with wedding guests returning.

    "The hotel was very busy due to a Wedding being held there, despite this the service we received was very good. The full english breakfast was most enjoyable. We had a very enjoyable overnight stay, and would stay at this hotel again." (107158866)

    The Hotel is set in lovely gardens, the rooms were comfortable and the fact That the hotel allows dogs was a major plus point for us. On this occassion we were visiting friends but I do travel to Dog Shows frequently. I will certainly look at this site again when travelling.

    Only one bar, the other bar was closed. The hotel was very warm despite it being not a very hot day. Air conditioning would have made the stay more comfortable.
