"Pity but not not worthy of recommendation. Noticed that there were young American couple at Saturday breakfast. Due to "bad points" this would have be a poor experience for any visitor to Gloucester especially those from foreign shores. A good external clean up would be in order." (108509510)

Reasonable value. City centre location. Convenient to pubs and restaurants. Reasonable breakfast.

Strong smell of urine in side alley way and side exit door external areas. On morning of departure we left our luggage in car and returned for breakfast. Could not gain entry again due to exit door being accidently snibbed despite have a key. Could not raise attention of staff despite rapping all alley way doors. Made phone call to advertised number but nobody answered. Missed breakfast and had to purchase at other location. Mens toilets stank of stale urine. A potentially good historical location spoiled by poor hygiene and cleanliness. Restaurant closed too early for residents. Initially had difficulty finding hotel and nobody answered advertised phone number. Bathroom floor dangerously slippy when getting out of bath/shower.

"We enjoyed it apart from the above obvious descrepancies." (108105306)

Nice breakfast - efficient breakfast waiter. Nice bedroom.

No toilet roll. had to ask. Came back in the evening and still no toilet roll so we had to look for one in cupboards. Toilet flusher not workinig properly - Had to take the back off a few times. No telephone number to contact until after booking completed. Needed to speak to someone which we couldnt. Free car park nearby was not clear in instructions ie where to park and that you will get voucher stamped etc.

    loved the ambience and decor

check in wasn't good. unable to reach by telephone. reception was always closed. bar man who was acting as recption was frequently out in the courtyard talking and somking(probably why telephoneing didn't work).you need to give proper directions to the hotel. we spent over an hour trying to find you,and then had to get a guide from the bar to get to the parking facility.

"comfortable hotel, with character, central location for exploring Gloucester.Be prepared, though, for the seagulls, which apparently plague the area, and are very raucous at night!" (108225869)

central location; comfortable bed; huge bathroom; helpful receptionist; good breakfast; hotel with character (if a little shabby) with coffee shop and bar selling real ale; free parking

    stuffy rstaurant (it was very hot when we stayed and there were no windows open or air conditioning; very very very noisy flocks of seagulls which disturbed sleep;

Initial room assigned was hot but manager gave us better room

No shampoo in room until night before we left. No wireless although they claimed to have it, and no one interested in helping

"Liked the building and room. Hated the favouritism shown to a large group over a single traveller" (108893912)

Lovely olde world hotel with a lot of history and original features. Loved its quirkiness. Right in the city centre with shops, bars and restaurants nearby. The room was a good size with a good size bathroom.

As its in the city centre its very noisy in the evenings on the streets outside with clubbers making their way through the city. Room was advertised as having an iron and ironing board. However, there was not. I was allowed to use these from their storage but the board and iron were then taken from me to be used by other guests there for a wedding. I had ironed one shirt! When i went to reclaim this in the morning i was told i couldnt have them! I ended up buying a shirt. The rooms were advertised as having an iron and board in them and to be refused use stinks of rudeness!!

"It was nice experience, we had a good night sleep. A little different place to stay compared to a regular budget hotel." (108900007)

Food was good in the restaurant and the Inn was old and beautiful place to visit.

Room service wasn´t that good. We ran out of toilet paper and nobody didn´t make our beds or emptied the trash during our two day stay.

"Enjoyed our stay at this hotel. Would like to have tried the restaurant but the opening times prevented this. " (108469674)

Quirkiness of rooms i.e. sloping floors etc and location.

Restaurant not open late enough and not having on-site car park.

Room was a lovely size, bathroom and especially shower were lovely. Bed was very comfy and duvet was nice. Breakfast was lovely

Floor slanted so much it was hard to walk on it! Pillows were old and very flat, shame when duvet was so nice.

Facilities were excellent, staff were generally helpful, friendly and welcoming

The double bed was somewhat uncomfortabele on one side and could possibly even have had a broken base. The seagulls were also slightly noisy but as I am a heavy sleeper it did not bother me unduly

Really made a change from standard business hotels, although a few things - lifts, level floors, windows rthat close - would have been welcome. Excellent pub at the hotel, and food pretty good.

Having to lug a suitcase up two flights of stairs. Otherwise all good.

"We only came for the cheese rolling but would definitely stay here again if we were staying longer - get them to turn of the heating before you arrive though!" (107428704)

Beautiful hotel, it was a shame we arrived so late and didn't really take advantage. Staff were helpful with helping us find the car park and offered that we could chain our bikes up. Allowed to check out AT 11AM which was brilliant!

The room was about 1000 degrees when we arrived - it was a really hot day and the towel rail was on - it was to late for the room to cool down properly which was a shame. Cooked breakfast wasn't overly generous.

"The hotel had atmosphere both in its general aspect and the public rooms but was desperately in need of a major refurbishment. Friendly staff." (107977307)

The room was nice with a very large bathroom and plenty of hot water. Quite a nice meal but no wine list.

The public rooms were shabby and in general need of repair. It did say there was no lift but the stairways were also a bit of a challenge and I would not think the hotel would be suitable for anyone who is slightly infirm. With the hotel being in a pedestrianised area car parking was a good way away.

Interesting history. Beds comfortable. Hot water was hot. Staff helpful. Convenient location. I had requested extra pillows & they were ready in room.

Fire instructions inside bedroom doors (2 room sample) were incomplete - this could be dangerous if there were a fire - and only in English (many of the guests were from overseas).

Not the hotel's fault, but it happened to be Cheltenham Festival week and some of the other guests were a little the worse for wear when they returned after midnight

"It was OK but I wouldn't say it was value for money and I didn't feel particularly welcome." (107613014)

Clean room, quiet, comfortable night's sleep.

It's the first time I've paid £100 for a room where no soap was provided and there was no remote control for the TV. The person who booked me in at reception was too keen to answer the phone and leave me (as a paying customer who'd just arrived) waiting to check in. The hotel is in the centre of town which was dead in the evening - there were more bar staff than customers in the New Inn bar, and similar at another pub down the road.

Perfect location, lovely appearance, room was very clean.

Britains smallest breakfast! No beans no fried bread, only one rasher of bacon, only one sausage! The very bare minimum you could get away with. And after 8.30 weekdays it's continental only! For this, you may as well go room only.
