    "Lovely hotel, beatiful gardens,excellent food, friendly staff. Only downside was that the room was not air conditioned and as it was the hottest day of the year it would have been advantageous to open the window. Upon our departure we found out that the window opened down and not up! However, did not spoil our stay and would definitely return." (107345475)

    Pity about bus garage next door, but you only see that as you approach the hotel

    "We had a good holiday in Durham and found the proximity to the town and amenities convenient. Apart from Christmas day the hotel was very quiet with little opportunity for socialising with other guests etc." (107488870)

    Christmas meal was very nice, beakfasts also very tasty with a good choice. Hotel was quiet and restful on the whole.

    Room was very hot despite being midwinter - only the use of a fan overnight made it bearable. Room was smaller than anticipated.

    every thing was excellent apart from the breakfast!

    breakfast - was worst I have ever had (luke warm tea/coffee, cooked breakfast, and asked for poached eggs, got fried, and also toast was cold) - staff not friendly and no clean table, no no teaspoons and the spot I had to have wasn't cleaned up, also the other tables weren't cleaned up when people left

    called beforehand to confirm reservation spoke to girl who was really helpful and gave me directions. Nice hotel makes a change from staying in chains i.e "Holiday Inn" etc. Nice dinner in bar, comfy room

    It was conveniently located a short walk from the city center, a nice clean room, friendly staff, and restaurant/bar right at the hotel.

    The room wasn't anything special considering it cost L80/night. I probably would look for a cheaper place in the future, because if I didn't need the extra services like laundry, ironing, and wireless internet, and would've hoped to have had a bigger room and maybe a wider TV selection for an L80 price tag.

    "During one evening meal the staff loudly discussed replacing the carpets with carpet fitters. At breakfast the lights were switched off when we were the only diners (8.30 a.m.) I ordered beef stroganoff on the second night and received the mushroom version. Mistakes happen but the waiter got out the menu to argue and when it was replaced the same plate came back (the rice had been partly eaten) and all that had changed was a spoonful of stir fried beef had been added. On looking at the bill the cost had been deducted but that does not restore the experience. For a 3 star hotel at this price I would expect better service." (97681868)

    "From the reviews on the internet, I had looked forward to staying in the Kings Lodge, but was a bit dissapointed to find that really it is just a very up market pub. The bar is used by a lot of local people and while I appreciate that this is very good for trade, the coming and going is very disruptive for guests." (97200424)

    Accommodation was clean and comfortable.

    The fact that our room was over the bar and the opening and closing of the outer door was very intrusive. On the Saturday Night, this went on until after midnight.

    Our room was comfortable and charmingly furnished. Staff members were courteous and helpful. Meals were well prepared and good. Despite the number of other guests the accommodations were quiet and restful.
