    Excellent restaurant

    Room only adequate for the high price. Given double room although twin booked. Breakfast at 15 Euros expensive.

    "Very disappointing. We stopped here for lunch with a group of friends about 10 years ago and had a memorable meal in these delightful surroundings so were keen to go back, but our experience was not satisfactory, sadly." (108790371)

    Lovely situation and very quiet. Close to Calais.

    We booked non-smoking room, but that was not provided and my wife's bedding smelt of smoke. Even though the restaurant was not particularly full, service was very slow (although the staff were very pleasant). The food was disappointing (the shoulder of lamb was dry/overcooked) and we had much better 3 course meals in southern France at less than 39 euros, so this was poor value.

    Idylic situation

    we were not advised before booking or at the reception. that 40 euros would be charged for our two mini dacshunds to sleep in our room overnight.which we felt was exorbitant,and therefore would not book again for that reason

    Very peaceful attractive setting, comfortable room and very good food. The staff were very pleasant.

    The room was a bit dark and poorly lit, and a proper shower would have been nice.

    "Hotel is very picturesque - especially the old mill which houses the restaurant - and the rooms are well appointed (but for some reason the lighting in the corridors is really dim) and have good views over the gardens/river. We had dinner in the restaurant and we enjoyed the food but felt it was a bit expensive, although it was very nicely presented and quite unusual e.g. Turbot with warm beetroot puree (about EUR26). We couldn't get any hot water at all on Sunday morning - this was only at about 8.45 am - and when we went to check out at just gone 9.00 a.m. Reception was unmanned with a sign saying that they would be back in a few minutes. After 10-15 minutes we gave up and went over to the Mill building where breakfast was being served and we found her working in there. The staff were all very nice and helpful though - once you found them! Apart from these two small 'grumbles', we enjoyed our one night and it was very convenient for Boulogne and the Tunnel, and has plenty of free car parking." (97157841)

    Surroundings - the river, old mill and park are lovely, as is the view from the rooms.

    No hot water on the Sunday morning.

    "The hotel staff were wonderful. Lovely clean hotel although no character. was more than made up by the reatarant housed in the water mill. The food was superb. Would like to go back again in the good weather and take advantage of the lovely countryside." (97595991)

    "The charm and peacefulness of the hotel made this a memorable stay, and the food was really excellent. The hotel rooms were of average standard but perfectly clean and comfortable. A comfortable residents lounge/bar with views of the mill and stream would make a pleasing addition to the facilities." (97224167)

    The situation of the hotel was very peaceful and relaxing, and the scenery was charming. The restaurant food was excellent, and very good value. The restaurant building had immense character.

    It was a pity that the accommodation was in a new building, and not the original mill. We thought the bridge across the stream was ugly, and rather spoiled the view from our bedroom.

    close to the tunnel. dinner was excellent.

    the bathroom spelt stale as did the toilet. it needs a ton of cleaner put into the drains.

The only down side of the stay was the lack of a proper shower in the room, which wasn't mentioned in the booking process.     "When we arrived on Saturday 3rd November we were told our online booking had been cancelled! Fortunately you were able to offer similar rooms to those we'd booked. I cannot understand how our rooms were cancelled but it may have something to do with the online booking company who I had to contact to cancel a double booking due to a computer error.     "Hotel was fine and enjoyable, very relaxing. Dinner was very very slow and the food was overpriced for the quality. The wine and cheese was fantastic but we couldn't wait to get through the starter and main to get to it! Overall good experience but please work on the staff,I know France can be slow at times but this was very slow. They were all lovely though which negated any ability to ask for things more quickly."     Extremely friendly hotel staff, very accomodating of my French. Very tranquil and peaceful.

    Asked for a junior suite and paid more for this, but it was next to reception.

    Love the hotel and especially the restaurant, which seemed as good as ever, even under new ownership. The bedroom was let down by a poor (old) bed.

    "We would like to have known that the hotel was closing for a period of time directly after our stay. It may have been more ambient if there had been other guests! On our arrival we were asked if we minded having an a la carte meal as there was no table d'hote available. Having been given an aperitif and left to wait for some 30 minutes, we were offered smoked salmon terrine and coq au vin for our meal - no choice at all! This left us at 8:00pm in an area we did not know to find a restaurant. No suggestions were forthcoming from the management. Fortunately, a 30km round trip made sure we had a meal of our choosing."     Location was quite nice however the same could not be said for the hotel

    The room was poorly lit, cold when we arrived and took several hours to warm up. A very average room not comfortable.

    "Better instructions on how to get to the hotel. The navigation system of the car only got us to the town, we finally paid someone 5 Euro to get us there, as it the dark we could not find the place. The breakfast, described as English or Buffet, was a bit sparse.... also considering the price of Euro 10 per person. The food at the restaurant was excellent, very nice relaxing atmosphere."     "The disappointing thing was we had booked a meal in the restaurant (which is a beautiful old water mill next to the new accommodation block)when we made our INTERNET booking, and had not been told (until we arrived) that the set menus were not available, so we agreed to have a la carte.Then on arrival in the restaurant there was only a very limited choice of dishes from the a la carte menu. This was very disappointing especially as the meals were very expensive in comparison to all the other hotels we've used on our frequent visits to France. Although the chef was a very charming man he left the building and the background music was switched off at 9.45pm - this left us rushing coffee with one waitress who obviously didn't want to be there - not what you expect for a meal costing 144.50 Euros! The only reason I would not recommend this beautiful hotel is the restaurant and the poor breakfast - coissants warm on the top and cold in the middle!" (99730384)

    A beautiful setting, a room above the river with ducks below! The room was clean, warm and had all we needed for a one night stay.
