    excellent location, wonderful room and bathroom

    sound proofing of the windows. Not the hotels fault but manchester is a very noisey city - young revellers!! I would suggest that the windows are second glazed which would improve the noise

    Clean hotel, good location and friendly staff. Decent breakfast

    Room was a little dated and I couldn't open the windows so it was really stuffy.

    I had requested 2 rooms next door to each other and had confirmed this with the hotel on the telephone 2 days before. It was not a problem at the time and it was noted that 2 rooms were availbale together. On arrival 2 rooms together were not available and the person I had spoken to on the phone had not noted my request anywhere. The hotel did not have 2 rooms together. Eventually they found 2 next door but 1 but only one room was ready the other had yet to be cleaned. It was 3pm. We accepted these rooms but 1 was not ready until we returned to the hotel late that evening. The receptionist was very apologetic but we wasted far too much time checking in. We had driven up from London and were pretty tired. The same happened on checking out when the hotel tried to charge me for an extra bed that we didn't have. Once again I was kept waiting while the receptionis rang someone and they waited for them to ring back and then gave me the phone to speak to them who just confirmed that the charge was for the extra bed that we didn't have and did I want to see the duty manager. I then waited between 10 - 15 minutes for the duty manager to appear. The manager spoke to the receptoinist and agreed to waver the charge for the extra bed and then the receptioist relayed this information to me. Finally we left the hotel.

    cleanliness and size of room excellent.

    had to wait long time for drinks from bar on 3 occasions even though there was hardly anybody in bar area. Breakfast food was of poor quality, dried up and cold, had to ask waiter to bring us tea and coffee after siting there for 10 mins.

    Layout of hotel was stunning

    There were cobwebs in my room, I could not turn off the heating, when it was over 20degrees c outside!!! As a result we had to sleep with all the windows open.The railway was really close, which meant you heard every train.

    The hotel is in a fantastic location and is a great place to stay, although we only stayed 1 night it was a comfortable experience.

    Bar service was slow as it was waiter/waitress service only.

    "I expect far more from a four star hotel. I got the feeling that because we were on a budget deal that we were put in rooms that had not been refurbished for some time and that the quality was not what I expected." (107901710)

    Large room, good beds with clean sheets etc.

    Room cold when we arrived, as was corridor outside. Bathroom sink taps needed maintenance when we arrived before we could use bathroom properly. Front desk did not deal very well with a package that was delivered for one of us. A colleague was having coffee with us after dinner one night and the chair he was sitting on collapsed beneath him. Instead of taking this seriously and rushing over to see if he was okay the bar staff laughed about it.

    Beautiful building with the public spaces well converted. the room was a good size and well equipped. staff were fine and especially helpful as we checked out.

    the room was supposed to have been recently converted but the net curtains were not clean and the bed although confortable was worn, which would have been ok but we could see where it was worn. The windows also need to be washed I know keeping them clean in a big city is not easy but try. The TV entertainment system was OK but the information pages were gold text on a brown background and really hard to read. Also the radio part of the system only gave access to 3 stations I think as a minimum it should give access to all the BBC radio stations.

    a small thing but would of liked a music TV channel, some confusion at check in due to difficulty being understood by a foreign worker but we got there in the end!

    The hotel was very Clean and the staff performance was good.

    Check in was slow as only two people on the desk, but when they did check us in the service was good. I had ordered by phone for bottle of champagne and chocloates to be in the room when I arrived they where NOT. They came about 2 hours later, which didn't make it very special !!!!

    We found the staff to be welcoming, accommodating and knowledgeable. The room was delightful and we enjoyed exploring the building generally, which we found to be clean, warm and well maintained.

    Only a minor point, but the smell of the drains (bathroom plumbing) did hit us upon arrival at our room. We were not overly concerned about this and rationalised that this was to be expected in such a historic building. We have stayed in properties of similar pedigree in New York where if anything such odours add a little character to the room!

    Noise from outside all night from people passing, road noise and emergency services sirens, didnt sleep well at all. noise from heating hot air blower.

    A Beautiful old building with lovely high rooms. Checking in and out was quick and staff were pleasant. Evening meal was included in the price and worked out alot cheaper than booking room and meal separately. The meal itself was great and served in a timely manner and the waitress and waiter were friendly and helpful. There was plenty of choice for the buffet style breakfast. Very handy if seeing a show and The Palace Theatre

    The divan base looked worn and needed a valance to cover it. Breakfast plates were cold so the food soon went cold.

    Booking did not clarify that only double room available had two single beds and not a double bed. Room service took an hour just to deliver ice!!

    "Absolutely spot on. This is the best hotel we have stayed at at the price we paid " (107334274)

    The location was perfect to all Manchester's amenities important to us. The hotel room was excelent in all features, especially size and standard of room facilities The staff were very efficient and helpful The breakfast was as good as we have had in any other hotels in Britain or abroad

    Free bottle of wine was not offerred, although this did not matter too much for us as we were not in a position to have wanted to have used it and would have declined it if it was offerred. The only reason we give this comment is that we do not feel it should be up to the customere to have to ask for this if within the booking and actually written on the booking form. Very slow service at the bar.

    Imposing foyer and restaurant.

    Overheated basement bedroom. Overall scruffiness and stale smell of corridors. Deperately in need of refurbishment. Hotel reservation staff offered higher prices than available through internet booking sites. Promised free bottle of wine in room as part of the package. Not supplied.

    Hôtel bien situé, accès facile.

    Personnel nul et au breakfast et surtout pour le départ, nous avons perdu une heure, pour payer quatre chambres pour 2 nuits, il a fallu se battre car nous avions commandé des chambres avec petit-déjeuner inclus, ils ont compté un petit-déjeuner en trop et surtout ils ont passé quatre fois ma carte de crédit pour payer impossible de payer en une fois, ce n'est pas sûre du tout et complètement débile. Et je n'ai encore pas le détail du débit de ma carte et j'ai peur qu'il y ait eu des erreurs, tellement le personnel était nul.

    "Nice and clean hotel. Food and wine was excellant. Staff really friendly and rooms a good size too but due to nothing working properly and overal standard I won't be staying there again until a full refurb has been completed." (107705184)

    I've attended several awards and out of all of them, the food I had in your hotel was by far the best. The meat was hot, cooked to perfection and the vegtables were steamed and crunchy. The table staff were organised and friendly.

    The extractor fan is my room didn't work. The heated towel rail had been removed. There wasn't a remote control for the tv. The free bottle of wine wasn't in my room. When I called down reception brought me a bottle 30 minutes later with no glasses or cork screw. After anohter twenty minutes I got a call to say I would need to come down with the bottle and collect glasses, however after discussing this with reception, a member of bar staff came to my rom, opened it and handed me to glasses. The heater / air con in my room didn't work and only worked at one temperature. There wasn't a water jug for the iron. At 10am whilst getting ready the power was cut from my room.

    Concerige was very helpful. Also the front of desk staff very nice.

    Didn't have my online reservation. And the sandwiches on the bar menu are too fussy. You should add plain toasties for later evening snackers.

    Very friendly and helpfull staff. Great lockation, fantastic decor,and a breackfast to die for, it had everything dident need to eat till teatime.

    Very noisey in the front of hotel 3 bubs opposite unable to get to sleep till early hrs of the morning. Also could heare people speaking in the next room as plain as if they were in the same room as you.

    Very Comfortable, well appointed hotel with clean, nicely decorated rooms and warm comfortable beds

    Unfortunately, on the last visit the TV remote control didn't work and the location of the room meant that I was disturbed most of the night by inconsiderate passers by, both people (singing loudly) and cars (sounding horns even at 2-3 o'clock in the morning

    Imposing architecture,and a good blend of design in interior furnishings and decorations.Bedroom was of a good standard.Dinner in restaurant:the food was of excellent quality, presentation and service also excellent.

    Cooked breakfast items were only lukewarm, not kept hot,and only cold plates available, not warm.Scrambled egg a disaster, not made correctly, solid rubbery mass.Secondary double glazing not sufficient to keep out noise in bedroom from railway line 2 metres away from window, not mentioned in literature, also causes outside windows to be very grimy.This detracts from 4 star status.

    Male staff were friendly, warm and made every effort to be helpful.

    Female staff were just cool and professional. They say the right words but didnt mean them. I ordered food through room service, after 50 minutes i enquired again to be told they didnt know what room. Then I believe the food caused my son to get food poisoning. Your staff can testify to his illness the following morning.
