    Receptionist was friendly and helpful

    This hotel should not be rated as a 4* hotel. It was shabby to say the least. We had to walk into a wedding reception in order to get to the room. The layout is extremely bad. The bathroom light was a permanent flicker. The seal around the bath was broken. The bed felt like it was about 30 years old.

    Lovely Clean Hotel with friendly and readily attentive staff there to help whenever needed.

    Friendly, efficient staff

    Room was a bit of a trek from reception! Decor and fixtures / fittings of room were very dated. Room was poorly lit. No air-con / temperature control in room. I would not rate the quality of the room as 4*. Breakfast was advertised on my booking confirmation at a price of £9.95, but it is actually £14.95 - which I think is ridiculously expensive for a buffet breakfast. However, because I had my booking confirmation, I was charged £9.95 per person for breakfast (still rather pricey!).

    "Well fed up re problems above and the apparent deterioration in the hotel and staff since we last stayed. in addition, we were sold the room at a rate which allegedly offered a 29% discount, only to discover the identical hotel rooms being heavily advertised in the press that weekend for less than half of the supposed discounted fee we paid through active hotels.     adequate parking, handy location

    Poor insulation and some apathetic staff ensured we endured appalling noise from a rowdy private function and traffic - we had a very long journey and an early start the next day and had asked for the quietest possible room on booking (hotel was virtually empty apart from the huge evening party going on) We reemphasised our need to escape the noise at check-in and were told by a bored employee that we were well away from any loudness - joke. Our single glazed large windowed room was above and directly facing the exit from the function rooms across a narrow driveway and after a quiet hour, the remainder of the evening was punctuated by drunken teenagers screaming, parents shouting farewells at full blast and cars revving/door slamming. From midnight until 2 am and from 5 a.m onwards the sound of constant traffic on the major road outside was funnelled through the narrow gap straight into the room. Little sleep despite earplugs. We had stayed at this hotel several years previously and knew that it had a different and much quieter wing at the rear - part of an old abbey, which suffers from none of these problems - it appears when quiet they now just clump the few guests into one corner of the building to suit the convenience of the staff rather than customers. Late evening we went to the empty hotel bar to escape the noise and waited for ten minutes before staff turned up. The area stank of smoke - surprising given the current regulations, and we assumed it was down to drunken party goers, only to realise that the cigarette smoke was in fact wafting through the kitchen doors,every time the staff opened and closed them. Not surprisingly we decided not to eat. The following morning there were less than a dozen places laid for breakfast confirming our impression of desertion. The one member of staff serving was polite and efficient, but all the supposely hot food was tepid, over held and served on cold plates. This used to be quite a good place to stay. What happened?

    "As we were visiting family and friends in the area, this hotel was good, however, if staying for a holiday and relying for all meals etc. the price could be a little high." (107425555)

    Room was adequate for our needs and general cleaniness of public areas was good. Staff were friendly and helpful. Very good sound proofing from the banqueting suites.

    For the price of the breakfast - we felt that to have table service would have been appropriate.

    Good location

    Difficult to acheive any type of constant temperature in the shower and no image displayed on television. Upon reporting to reception, the response I receiveed was "Do you want me to do anything about it?" In shock, I said no for an easy life bearing in mind how late it was. When I am away from home, I like to have the television on for a bit of company and was dissapointed that I coudn't on this occasion. Couldn't even listen to it because I couldn't see the screen to set the timer!

    Our room was very clean and there was plenty of space for a standard double room we would stay again unfortunately we did not have any meals as we were visiting family but the menu looked very good

    The only bad point was the entrance hall for such a lovely hotel the tiles looked dirty they need to be changed as it spoilt the appearance.

    The staff were very friendly, the food was good the room clean

    the room was very small for two people, the bed was not a full sized double and made sleeping difficult as it was a warm night. There was no fan or alternative ventilation in the room which meant the window had to be opened as far as possible making the room noisy from the traffic

    Good location for getting to wedding and reception

    Breakfast was really busy with not enough staff available, we had to constantly ask for Coffee, Toast and eventually got some after a lengthy wait. One Customer next to us asked for Ketchup to be told no we dont have any as it's Sunday and we dont get another delivery until tomorrow!! We were gobsmacked

    Price was reasonable, parking was good, staff were efficient, polite and friendly.

    There was a long walk from reception to my room, and the room was very "tired", though everything was in working order. In room lighting was very harsh, with bright halogen downlighters, and no table lamps.

    tv channels were good and the beds were very comfortable. very nice breakfast thankyou

    room were extemely hot even though we left it for 4 hours with windows wide open and had the fan on full. bit on the small side but suitable for two people. bar was very sticky downstairs. told the bar man he said "yes it is"

    Rooms were quiet and dark, lovely facilities in room..good breakfast, well stocked and cooked.

    The description of 'executive room' didnt realy live up to that standard, the room was of a standard size, and nothing really executive about it.A bit pricey for the room I thought. It was also a long walk to the room down several corridoors and flights of stairs. The bed was very bouncy..and needed to be a bit firmer!

    Clean and tidy, staff very helpfull

    Leaking showerhead which was very annoying and i did request a bottle of champagne on arrival in the room as it was a birthday celebration but this was not carried out, quite let down by this as its not a hard request to carry out!!

    Room was well furnished and decorated.Staff helpful and efficient.

    Requested a smoking room but didnt get one althogh there seemed to be plenty of unoccupied ones.Room was a very long walk from everything else in the hotel.Pillows were rubbish!

    Easy to find.

    Room very old fashioned, smelt mouldy. Too long a walk from reception area with no help with bags.Mini bar empty. Not enough tea, coffee or milk. Extremely overpriced. Breakfast good but staff not attentive enough. Had to ask for buffet to be replenished during peak time,as did table next door.
