    Lovely room. Good breakfast. friendly restaurant staff

    Luggage not taken to room when available. Broken toilet seat.

    Lovely atmosphere, very traditional, friendly helpful staff

    still requires some decorating, we were shown around the ballrooms although a big job a lick of paint would make a difference, but it would be nice to keep original features as that is what makes the hotel

    hotel full of character in centre of great town

    I arrived late - around 11.10pm - an hotel was closed up even though there was a night porter on the desk

    Friendly hotel in a great location in the centre of Shrewsbury.

    You need to be fit to get your luggage to the room with lots of stairs to negociate, but I expect vthat in an old place like this - It could be a problem for an older person.

    friendly staff nothing too much trouble.room very clean and satisfactry.breakfast very good.

    the lounge area could have been cleared away more quickly empty glasses and tea/coffee accompanyments left for a long while on tables and comfy furniture would have looked better if plumped up occasionally.not enough staff manning the two bars sometimes had to wait a while to be served.

    "We werent aware that the shops would be closed because of it being easter, we thought being a bank holiday there would be something on somewhere. we arrived on the saturday late afternoon and went shopping.Sunday was really quiet we went out of the town due to everything being closed and even out out of town, like telford things were closed. We ended up having a long drive and we stopped at a local pub for lunch. The lion is a a lovely hotel right in the middle of the town having great access to all of the shops, which wasnt far to walk.The music hall didnt have a lot of entertainment on ,we found this dissapointing it would have been nice to have seen a musical show or even a play."     The hotel was beautiful, it was right in the middle of shrewsbury ,really close to all the shops.The atmosphere of the hotel was relaxing in the downstairs areas. The satff were friendly and helpfull,it was a lovely old world hotel , we really relaxed and had a lovely stay.

    The floors were very squeaky and are in need of an update, everywhere you walked the floors squeaked which kept me awake the first night you can hear the rooms above when people are walking around or if someone is walking around on your landing.

    The Hotel had no problem adding a travel cot into our room on arrival

    Breakfast was a little difficult to get too as we had our 6 month old son in his pushchair - too many stairs to carry him down

    "This hotel is a ‘vintage’ old English hotel experience. A bit tired and rundown but clean and with pleasant staff and in an excellent location. The breakfast is good and I would say that overall it has improved over recent years." (97015407)

    Windows very nearly impossible to open/close. Shower very hard to turn off! Lack of heating control - very hot at night!

    Room provided generally quite (see below)space to rest, sleep and to do some work.

    Bathroom of next door room seemed to be close into party wall - lot of noise when next door flushed

    Extremely comfortable bed with cotton bedlinen. Excellent breakfast in very attractive dining room. Good location in town centre.

    Nothing - soome floorboards were very creaky due to age!

    It was convenient for the train station and the hotel had parking.

    It was noisy from the main road and the bathroom was smelly.

    "The staff were all a delight. The building is interesting in good location although in need of decoration. Linen clean - as was room generally. Breakfast was composed of decent ingredients cooked to order - unlike most 4/5 star hotels who have buffets of ghastly stuff from a cheap freezer shop at great cost! I stay in a lot of hotels and am pretty immune to them. The Lion was a delight - mainly due to the staff who are nice people, well trained - a credit to management." (97225840)

    Centre of town with car park near shops, restaurants etc

    couldn't turn the heating off. No hot water for the shower. Noisy room due to hotel machinery outside. Hotel looking tired!

    "The hotel has a lot of character and original features but is in a poor state of repair and needs refurbishment. It was probably a very nice hotel about 30 years ago when it was last decorated. The carpets are thread-bare in many places and there are patches of wallpaper hanging off. The first room we were allocated had a hole in the window and when we were moved to a different room the shower only ran cold. The bathrooom also had stains on the ceiling where damp had come through from the room above and the enamel on the bath had come off. When I mentioned the shower on checking out the receptionist showed no interest at all and was very unhelpful." (97892709)

    "I would have liked to see the actual double room i was staying in,as the room shown on the website was not the room i got.The amenities in the room were a let down and was not good value for the money spent.     Shower didn't work correctly , toilet did not flush correctly, had to wait a while for hot water. This was rectified with the offer to use another room for a shower The room was not worth the amount i paid and looked a bit shabby

    "Relaxed and dozy ambience, but I wouldn't stay here again. There was a very noisy event on the Saturday night lasting till 12.30, longer once the drunken revellers had tottered to their cars. The hotel staff member provided a particularly gormless response to my complaint along the lines that it was licensed. As the hotel had set the licensing condition, this was inappropriate."     Historic Hotel - amazing ball room - central location. Reasonable price. Hotel parking available

    Very noisy lifts - could not sleep in in the morning (lifts start at 7:30) Was quite hot in the room

    The hotel (carpets, decor, etc) is very shabby - definitely gives the impression of having 'seen better days'

    "I used the hotel purely as a stop over for a very inmportant football match at Gay Meadow Shrewsbury Town FC (The last ever match at this venue). It was extremely convenient for the stadium, and I was quite pleased that I could get to the match so easily. However, getting in and out of the parking area is really hazardous, but I expect that's just a consequence of the building's age and historic location." (99820114)

    Its obvious charm and the date of the building-very oldy worldy. Very nice location near to the river. Log fires, all the things you would expect of an old English Hotel.

    Creaking floors, there were things about the room and the furniture that looked tatty. Fairly expensive, I have had better fully cooked breakfasts, but its not a complaint.

    "This is a lovely old European Hotel with lots of charm and attention to details. The hotel itself offers all services necessary for travelling convenience and comfort. There were no unexpected surprises from the online description. The only disappointment was our mattress, which sank in the center." (99201142)
