    The breakfast was excellent and the bar was nice

    When we arrived the receptionist could'nt find our booking and said we could'nt have made a reservation. I had printed off our confirmation advice from yourselves and showed it her as proof. She was very abrupt and then said we were lucky as had a room at the back still available. When my partner asked was it an ok room she was very short with him and gave hiom a dirty look which was pretty unacceptable

    Friendly reception staff. Helpful with directions and booking taxis. Friday night entertainement in restaraunt / function lounge.

    45 minute wait for sandwiches ordered in bar. Bed quite uncomfortable. Not many television channels. No fridge in room.

    LARGE BUT QUIET HOTEL WITH ALL THAT IS NEEDED FOR AN OVERNIGHT STAY.

    BAR MEALS POOR CHOICE AND NOT BEING ABLE TO EAT BEFORE 7.15 IN THE BAR AREA DUE TO OTHER FUNCTIONS??

    "I have stayed here once before and complained about the cleanliness back then. We decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try this hotel again but we will not be staying there for a 3rd time. The cleanliness of the rooms leaves a lot to be desired." (97709905)

    The restaurant and bar were quite nice and breakfast was nice.

    The room was very tired and the bathroom was dirty. The curtains in the room were also dirty and the window did not stay open properly. The room also smelled quite strongly of drains when we first arrived (hence trying to keep the window open).

    Had to change original room offered as it overlooked a noisy airconditioning fan and pies etc on flat roof. It was a hot day and not possible to have windows open because of fan. However room was changed without any bother. Problems with food service in the bar - staff not very attentive, then had to change choice twice after given order - things not avaiable but worst point was we waited 45 mins for meal to be served.s

    Extractor fan not working in bathroom, mould around bath seal. Only one set of towels left on second day.

    Staff were very helpfull and courtious.

    The bath room could do with a make over, the taps difficult to adjust and the toilet would not flush properly. The flush mechanisum was loose.

    "First room I was shown - carpet hadn't seen a vacuum cleaner ! Second room had broken window which wouldn't close & telephone that didnt work, and again 'bits' on carpet - although to a lesser extent than first room ! Third room was a superior room - much bigger / better located however again hygiene / cleanliness issues as when I went to use toilet I discovered it hadnt been flushed - raising the point that obviously it hadn't been cleaned !     Reception acted promptly to problems. Superior rooms at back of hotel very quiet. Good location for M62.

    I viewed 3 rooms which all had a problem with hygiene / cleanliness.

    The layout of the single room was OK. Plenty of hot water, good shower. Availability of tea and coffee. Bed was comfortable.

    The side panel of the bath was very dirty and had not been cleaned for a considerable length of time. Clenliness generaly left something to be desired. There was obviously a leak from the shower behind the bath at some time which had been repaired but the panel had not been restated properly. The carpets on the stairs were worn and threadbare. The reception was grim and the decor around it was unkempt.

    "Overall the hotel seemed to be very well run. The staff were polite, helpful and friendly. There was a wedding party going on, but the staff were attentive to us on our arrival. Our room was upgraded so it was definately good value for money. The room was clean, well decorated with a tv, phone, hair dryer,hospitality tray and toiletries. We enjoyed relaxing in the bar during the afternoon, having a meal and a few drinks. We would be happy to stay there again if we visit the area in the future." (97784609)

    The peaceful atmosphere was brilliant!

    I wasn't able to have a beer before leaving the Hotel on Sunday morning. (Bar opens at noon)

    "I would recomend this hotel, the position is just a bit out of the main but close enough to everything. The hotel is in a quite area in nice grounds. friendly staff, I stayed alone on a fri night and did not feel at all intimidated by going into the bar area where the entertament was on. Carpet dirty, room cramped and noisy (both noise from hotel and also busy road outside). Dinner less than adequate regards quality. Breakfast OK.     "Value for money, however seems to be better (both food and service), when there are larger numbers to cater for. On the first night was the only one in the dinning room and melon was hard but steak was very good. This was the only night I ate in the hotel, as I was visiting friends in the area. On first morning buffet breakfast was good although waitress forgot about my coffee, very apologetic when reminded. Second morning no buffet as I was the only one staying there but my order taken and was very good. Third morning (Saturday) was crowded and everything worked like clockwork.     "I was disappointed that at check in, staff didnt seem able to locate our booking, after a little wait, the problem was solved. I also expected to be able to ask staff questions about the area and where to find things, admin staff were not able to answer any questions about the local area, let alone give directions.     Convenient distance from the event we were intending. Easily accessible from the motorway.

    The overall decor and furnishings in the room and in the hotel generally were very worn and tired looking. Wallpaper on the corridors was torn in places and the general appearance rather tatty.

    Food provided for room service was good. Ironing board and iron available on request.

    Decor needs overhaul. Kettle kept coming on of its own accord. Very warm day - room was too hot - no air conditioning.

    The location was ideal for the wedding that we were attending

    The room was right next to reception on the ground floor and so quite nosey the window looked out onto a pile of rubble and flagstones, the bedding was old, dirty and torn, and the bathroom smelt of damp.

    "I would have preferred to have a buffet breakfast on each of the 3 days I was there as opposed to only on the Saturday morning. This was a service I was accustomed to from earlier visits and I was disappointed not to see it. Furthermore, I query why a hotel which is part of a chain does not offer accessibility to satellite TV for it's customers. It's something which I've seen in hotels throughout Europe and even in rented holiday accommodation in Denmark." (99356460)

    The room was spacious and clean and there was no trace of it having been used by a smoker which made it very pleasant.

    The only real complaint I have is the poor flushing on the WC which was a problem which I encountered here on my last visit

    "Hotel staff were good, helpful receptionist, overall appearance of hotel was clean, plenty of parking and it was reasonably quiet even though there were two dinners/events taking place that night. Restaurant could only be rated as OK, food was nothing special and they did not exactly overwhelm you with the portions. Drinks were expensive, evening service was erractic, the neighbouring table had his order forgotten. Checkout quick and effecient, breakfast was excellent but only one person on duty to serve everyone - but she did do a sterling job. Value for money I couldn't fault it, but it was spoilt by a lack of care in the bathroom" (99286680)

    Bathroom was poor, mould on tiles and around tiles. Much of the finishing moulding had come loose or had been replaced badly, made what was a good stay into an average one. Bathroom needs to refinished and tidied up

    "I would definately stay at the hillcrest again. The rooms were very clean and tidy. The hotel overall was well ran, didn't spot any problems. The staff at check in were very helpful and friendly and it had a good atmosphere to the place. It was a great experience even if we were only there one night!" (99031958)

    The entertainment at night was fun and the room was good value for money. Staff were very polite and friendly.

    The bar was very expensive but that's too be expected of a hotel.

The site and building facility and ammentities are acceptable but the guest experience is disappointing.     standard of facilities live up to advertised facilitires.

    Room not checked prior to occupation as toilet had not been used for some time it was in need of cleaning, hairdryer unusable as cut out after 20 seconds due to overheating.
