    Friendly, helpful staff. Good price for a 4* with free spa facilities. Close to city centre but on a quiet road.

    'Double room' had twin beds pushed together-never my favourite but often done...Sheets not quite big enough to cover doubled-up beds. Chewing-gum on carpet- again, often the case but not nice anyway.

    Very nice staff, especially in the restaurant and the meal I had there was excellent.

    The lady who bothered me on the checkout morning. Still don't know why she knocked on my door and she did this twice. I didn't get an intelligible explanation out of her either and had to ask practically in sign language as to what time checkout was (12 noon), before I could get it through to her that I would be out by 10.00am. What was she there for? What did she want? Just disturbed me.

    Good value overall. Comfortable bed with nice linen.

    Cooked breakfast was very disappointing - scrambled eggs were cold and rather solid. Obviously not cooked to order. Croissants were not very appetising.

    Central location; friendly, helpful and efficient staff.

    Cold English breakfast. Moved into cellar bar as a result of refurbishments but the metal 'warming' dishes with breakfast items inside were inadequate for their intended purpose!

    The hotel is listed as the thistle hotel but it is not stated on any booking information that it is also known as 'the grand hotel.' This was very confusing when driving around Bristol in a panic, I would suggest correcting this to save confusion.

    Staff attentive, helpful and friendly. Leisure facility good, decent sized pool. Well sited near town centre. Very good food

    Room rather small. On arrival, not restocked with tea/biscuits (though more arrived promptly when asked for), and only 1 sanitary bag (more never appeared despite leaving a note for the housekeeper). Room slightly battered, picture falling out of frame. No teapot in room

    The receptionist who greeted us was very friendly & warm & helpful. The hotel was in an excellent position for central Bristol.

    The lifts and corridors smelt horrible. The room was very small and not very well cleaned. I noticed a piece of dental floss on the bathroom floor the whole duration of our stay (we don't use floss!) plus the room was dusty and didn't smell that nice. The ceiling was low around the window & my husband banged his head and subsequently had to duck while walking round to the bed. We got back to the hotel quite early after a concert and wanted a drink, the only option for the bar was a grotty, dingy old basement area as the nice bar upstairs was closed on a Friday night to get ready for breakfast the following day - but this doesn't happen during the week despite obviously serving breakfast the following day. The breakfast was limited & particularly the first day we had to request many items which had run out, despite the fact we had a comparatively early breakfast.

    the leisure facilities were very good ie swimming pool, gym etec.

    noise levels at 3am in the morning, disregard for patrons asleep at those hours. lack of communication from hotel staff to patrons informing them that certain functions etc would be going on into the early hours. poor customer service at reception, talking to you no, talking beyond you as if preoccupied elsewhere not really making the patrons feel welcome.

    flat screen tv, beautifully decorated rooms and bedding, great bathroom, nice that spa facilities were so close by, good breakfast, patient and helpful reception staff

    room service overpriced for quality of food, remote didn't work, guy at the spa was not helpful and a bit rude, jacuzzi was broken, would be nice to have a dresser or drawer in the room and more hangers for a twin room.

    "We booked a double/twin room at Thistle Bristol for two nights through the AA online booking system. Called the hotel (0871 number) THREE times at different days to request a double room if a double was available rather than a twin. However, each time we were told that my booking details were not shown on their system even a day before my check-in! Either the two systems never talked to each other or it was a lie! When we checked in on the day with a printed copy of our booking confirmation and again requesting a double room. They seemed to have some difficulties but saying they would do their best to get it sorted. The receptionist went upstairs (i guess to have a look at the room/availability rahter than finding out from their computer system?) and came back after 20-30 minutes and delightfully told us they successfully found a double room for us. We gratefully thanked her, dropped off our luggage, changed and rushed to a concert with our friends at Bristol. We were feeling that the room seemed a bit squeeze for us but did not pay much attention to it as we were in a rush. When we came back to the hotel from our friends' after midnight, we checked the room again and we were sure it was a SINGLE room but not a double! We had a word with the night manager of the hotel and he was embarrassed to admit that we were given a big SINGLE room instead of a double room. However, they had nothing left for double or even twin rooms! In the end, we were given two single rooms for the first night and they promised to get us a double room for the second night. After we settled in our rooms it was almost 2am in the morning! The next day, as we planned a day out and did not want any arguments to spoil our day ahead, we did not say a word to the day manager when he was trying explain to us that THEY DO SOMETIMES USE THE SINGLE ROOM GIVEN TO US AS A DOUBLE ROOM TO THEIR GUESTS!!! what a nonsense! what a dishonest hotel! When we came back to the hotel that evening, we were given a double room with a hotel-made "double bed"-by pushing together two single beds! We did not complain this as we were fed up in dealing with such a dishonest hotel, we just wanted to leave the hotel as soon as we could! It was a nightmare to stay at such a dishonest and disrespectful hotel! we'll never ever stay with them again! " (107765647)

    A dishonest hotel trying to put a couple into a SINGLE room with a big SINGLE bed pretending its a double room! The car park (you have to pay for it) on site was awful-you could never find a space in the first 4-5 floors plus the lift was not working! You had to bring your luggage down using the stairs to check in and climb up again to get your car whenever you needed to use it! The hotel booking system did not talk to AA online system-my online booking details were never found on the hotel booking system!

    Good breakfast selection - which was included in room rate. Central loaction to explore Bristol city restaurants, bars and markets. Spacious, modern and comfortable family room accomodated for 3 adults. Great shower pressure. Staff were attentive and eager to please.

    Lift not working in parking buiding! Ice machine not working ...permanently it seems! No minibar fridge in room.

    When we checked in we were asked if we would like to 'upgrade' to a disabled room because the room was bigger and the beds were larger - they were!

    The 'upgraded' room was ready for one person - one large towel, one small towel, one teabag, one biscuit. We did have two cups (one of which was so chipped that it was unusable!!) We did report this but if we had been staying longer we would have reported it all.

    Good location, good price

    Reception staff were very unfriendly on arrival. Room was tired and badly in need of redecoration. There was an accumulation of debris on top of the bird proofing netting right outside our window. The shower head was too low to stand underneath (even at 5ft 2ins tall!) Poor standard of cleaning in the bathroom - there were pubic hairs on the shower wall. The cellar bar was closed, despite being advertised in the room and in the lift.

    Excellent helpful concierge.

    Newly refurbished room was offered but smelt strongly of fresh paint. Two alternatives were offered, both with faults. finally installed in an unrefurbished room for disabled!! Breakfast choice was very limited and poorly presented. Request for a price adjustment in view of the above was not dealt with unsympathetically.

    bedroom and bathroom were big enough, it had all the facilities expected in the room. Very centrally located.

    breakfast was a bad experience.It was very poor in general, the cheese tranches were really dry and hard at the borders and parts were the next tranche was not touching.There wasn't much bread left and when asking for more, they told us it was finished , and this happened in both mornings .When we told the waiter that a 4star hotel could not run out of bread, she just said sorry but I cannot do anything about it.We were not asking for a special kind of bread, just fresh bread, not toast bread. Hardly any fruit, only 2 kind of juice, and only a small plate of cheese (only one kind)

    Friendly and helpful staff, well equip gym and leisure facilities.

    Hotel was understaffed the weekend I stayed in the hotel, and thus there were queues and waits for reception and at breakfast time. This may not be an ongoing issue, but was substantial the weekend I was stayed as there were not sufficient staff working to serve volume of visitors at the tables at breakfast and at reception. Parking is charged at £8 for 24 hours, but on the day of check out this is only valid until 12pm.

    Excellent position for centre of bristol, only minutes to two shopping centres and some very good restaurants, very efficient staff. Room very nice. Nice to have secure car parking, so don't have to worry about car.

    "The hotel was great, we actually walked past it and kept on walking as we thought that it couldn't be that hotel for the price we paid, it looked a bit too nice. Also we were looking for the Thistle hotel its main sign says The Grand-so that was a little confusing. The room was great, the food in the restaurant was superb, however the fire alarm going off at 2am in the morning wasn't the best when we all had to evacuate.
