    Easily booked, great information about how to get there

    Staff were not friendly, did not appear to be aware of which guests had paid for inclusive meals and on one occasion were particularly rude to us in relation to this. Poor basic communication from staff such as poor eye contact and very basic spoken English, particularly from night staff but not exclusively. We requested a change of room due to excessive heat and noise from what appeared to be a boiler behind the wall where the head of the bed was. In both rooms we stayed in, the tiles and fixtures in the bathroom had evidence of soap scum and build up of what appeared to be lime scale or something similar.

    Nice bedroom, good size pool, decent gym, good breakfast, courteous staff

    Although the hotel staff were courteous at all times, they were not very efficient in the dining area as breakfast tables wern't prepared or cleared quickly enough even though the hotel was not very full. Both Gym and Pool area was starting to look a bit tatty and in need of some renovation.

    Staff very helpful

    Access for disabled person to descend the stairs was broken but we were given a room on the ground floor. Still the wheelchair had to be pusehed around the outside of the hotel to access the dining room.

    Excellent deal found on Active Hotels and generally staff tried to be helpful

    Found a great deal with Active Hotels, would have been most disappointed to have paid the full price for this hotel as it really was a 3 bordering on 4 star hotel. Room was too warm, double bed was too small, from the outside it did look very tired and the bathroom needed a bit of an upgrade

    very clean room, good breakfast, good overall value for money. Staff were able to check us in early even though we were an hour before usual check in time.

    Remote control for TV in room did not work, new batteries were fitted but still did not work. Room was very hot overnight as there was no air conditioning system and the windows opened only a short way.

    "Having used the hotel for a family wedding 15 years ago, we were greatly disappointed to find the entire hotel in need of refurbishment to restore it to its original comfortable, welcoming and quite smart appeal. Apart from the bedrooms and bathrooms showing many signs of being well-used, the public areas offered none of the attractiveness of the hotel we remembered and the gardens were an equal disappointment whereas, once upon a time, they were a major feature of the hotel.     The service was excellent and all the staff were courteous, even though they were working VERY hard as a wedding took place on the Saturday and Sunday!!

    Do NOT add tips to the bill. A member of staff told me that these go directly to the HOTEL, NOT THE STAFF!! I thought this unfair.

    Good booking and special room position as requested, quiet. Location ideal for my work.

    Scruffy with the builders in. I used the Pool and gym but like the outside of the hotel it looked tired and worn out so not very welcoming. Evening Food and drink very expensive I am not on an expense account. No incentive to stay in the hotel in the evening. Room TV poor picture. Slow old kettle. Low water pressure in the shower. Breakfast was dull.

    The staff were friendly and helpful

    The hotel rooms seemed a bit hot and need a bit of a refurbishment. I would say that it is the same for the whole hotel ( but I think plans are in progress). Drinks are expensive ( even soft drinks). Also the corridors smelt a bit damp and of cigarettes ( even in the non smoking parts)

    Twin beds too close together - we had to seperate them for one of us to get in!

    We had to hurry to the wedding at St. Peters church and the staff was brilliant helping us finding the right way, and we reached the church in time.

    That we only stayed one night. We should have come a day ealier.

    Pleasant clean rooms.

    I have stayed at this hotel several times in an "executive" room, which includes parking, a newspaper and internet voucher. I always have to ask for the internet voucher, and parking and newspapers are always on the bill at check-out. Guests shouldn't have to ask for these things to be removed from the bill - they shouldn't be on the bill in the first place. Pricey main restaurant (above my company's allowance!) and bar food - try the Harvester across the road!

    Room was very comfortable. In general staff were very friendly.

    Room key didn't work the first time to had to go back to reception. Number of TV stations was poor - only 5 main channels, no extra channels in particular no sports channels which compared to other hotels I have stayed in was a let down.

    The hotel was cheap but no cheaper than much better quality Holiday Inns.

    The hotel was just tired and grubby, the bed had three pillows instead of four and was uncomfortable, the sofa too grotty looking to sit on. Wouldn't stay in a Thistle hotel again.

    Well organised and comfortable. Staff were polite and helpful at all times and did their best to resolve minor issues when they arose. The breakfast had a wide range of choice, and was well presented

    Damage to plumbing and electrical light fittings which should have been repaired prior to the room being relet.

    "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Thistle. The rooms were brilliant. We had a family room which my daughter loved. It was quiet and relaxing with excellent facilities for anyone. The staff were friendly and extremely helpful. One lady on reception even helped me find bus times. The food was absolutely stunning and I would definitely stay there again." (97899726)

    It was so comfortable and very accomodating. The facilities were excellent and they catered brilliantly for my young daughter.

    "The leisure complex was a bit disappointing, as in the standard of the cleanliness. The floors in the changing room were in need of a good clean and the swimming pool area ie the walls and roof were poorly maintained." (97736724)

    "Disappointing, due to not able to get a dinner table on Saturday at 8.15pm despite it only being 1/3 full. ( apparantly the kitchen staff couldn't cope). The bar fridge wasn't working so could only offer us warm white wine, and still charging £17 per bottle. The box of chocolates were never left for us which was part of the deal also. Many other guests were so noisy, and because we were in room 1 where most people had to walk past to get to there own rooms, we got woken up 2-3 times each night." (97812508)

    "my colleague was first sent to an occupied room . then offered another occupied room before finally getting an unoccupied room. he was also served a dring at the bar in a cracked glass which was changed by emptying the contents into a new glass . in afour star hotel i would have expected the glass and contents to be replacement."     Bed linen/towels were all very clean. Room was nice and quiet.

    The pool was not available to use on the Saturday. However it was in use on the Sunday. There were no individual changing rooms in the Leisure Centre. Group change only.

    "Good value for money for a christmas shopping trip. Close to town centre.Room was clean, and big enough for the 3 of us to be comfortable. The breakfast was lovely, however, the staff serving at breakfast were in the main very rude, and inattentive.     excellent value for money. Went with my sister and cousin, and we shared a triple room - which was excellent as we rarely see each other and were able to have a good catch up. The breakfast was very nice, although the service was dire

    Good parking facilities; well appointed room with range of accessories;ground floor with disabled hoist to negotiate the two sets of steps.

    "I fell in your parking lot due to insufficient lighting. Injured, when I got to my room, I had been locked out. Injured, I had to go down to the front desk and get a new key. Injured, I went back up to my room only to find it had not been cleaned that day. The next day, I had to wait in line for 15 minutes just to check out.
