    Central location

    Low popularity of Restaurant on Terrace for dinner and poor substitute dining room. Lacks Residents' Lounge. Cafe Bar is soulless and lacking in character- also sherry and Boddingtons!

    The hotel was lovely. Providing parking was very nice.

    We had no idea what to do when we discovered we couldn't access the front of the hotel because of the international street fair in progress. We spent a very frustrating time trying to find entrance (at rear) and the parking. We were two Americans in a rental car with limited maps! The one we had printed off Mapquest didn't work when access was blocked. I understand this is a once-a-month street fair so we could have been forewarned, perhaps?

    "Phase 2 of a major refurnishment programme was in progress the entire 5 nights we were in the hotel, information which we should have been informed about and the room rates reduced accordingly." (107357440)

    Excellent location.

    While understanding refurbishment is desirable in the long term, pre-warning should have been given about guests having to negotiate scaffolding, workmen's ladders, paint dust and cables with suitcases in the entrance and main stair way.

    Hotel Manager was great fun and she took the focus away from such a bomb site that it was.

    Hotel was under construction,very liitle parling space and Hote was a mess from top to bottom, workers tools, scaffolding ets everwhere. Hotel hould be shut down whilst this amount of renovation is eing done. 2 words "NEVER AGAIN"

    my twin room turned out to be a double so my friend and i were given a free upgrade.

    The hotel was being refurbished which is why i didn't give a good mark on order and cleanliness. The bar staff overcharged me for my round of drinks.

    Location excellent. Room stylish and excellent quality fittings and furnishings. reception staff efficient, pleasant and helful

    Breakfast third rate. Dining room tired. food and service poor, certainly not 4 star.

    We were delighted to be upgraded to the Gordon Suite. We wished we were staying longer!

    The breakfast room was a bit tired, but I assume this is next on the list for redecoration. We loved our big room but it was a shame the scaffolding was still there.

    Hotel was clean, staff friendly

    1 lift, very slow & small (we ended up walking because it was that slow) only fitted 2 persons in. The room was ok but very warm we couldnt open the window as it was bolted shut. Neither of us sleeped due to it being very warm (like a sauna) and too our surprise the heating wasnt on????

    Friendly atmosphere and building is central to shops and entertainment.

    Poor ventilation of Bedroom and Ensuite due to no air conditioning. Window opening was restricted and also cheap secondary glazing (probably fitted to cut out overnight interminable passerby,traffic and seagull noise) Fittings in room and En-suite were ancient and in need of replacement. Dining Room floor dirty below tables. Service was slow at dinner and after two failures to obtain black coffee due to language difficulties we gave up and went to Costa.

    Quality of room and furnishings was equal to 4 star

    Evening meal package was less than average for a four star hotel e.g serving up a kind of stew as main course with raw veg and brown bread on top in the restaurant when one can get good quality food like fish and chips in the bar is not really a very good deal.

    The receptionist and waiting staff in hotel were excellent polite and friendly.

    The receptionist was working flat out on her own at check in/out. We had to wait quite a bit. Also, just as well i checked the bill as we were charged for an evening meal that was inclusive in our offer.

    "Overall it was a very pleasant hotel, although exstensive renovation work was going on and the outside was covered with scaffolding, it didn't detract in any way from our enjoyment of the weekend.     Very central, close to all shops, bars, clubs restaurants etc.

    Breakfast wasn't of a standard I'd expect from a Thistle hotel and the lounge menu wasn't very appetising.

    décoration de l'hotel (couloir, escalier ...)

    la salle de bain est d'une autre époque : - lavabo très pénible à utiliser : 1 source d'eau très chaude et 1 autre d'eau très froide, de plus les 2 robinets sont presque plaqués contre le lavabo - douche difficile à utiliser, système de réglage de la t° pénible à utiliser, pas d'aération - WC : chasse d'eau pas assez puissante, 4 minutes pour remplir! --> tout ca est inadmissible pour un 3*, même un etap hotel est très supérieur !!!!!!!

    "The staff were helpfuland food was hot and cooked to order. Decor and toilet was in need of maintanance as sink was cracked. Could supply more rooms with walk-in showers for people like myself who have problems getting in and out of a bath. Position of hotel is very good as it is close to shops and restaurants."     hotel staff were polite and helpful and hotel was in a good position for shops and restuarants as i cannot walk too far.

    toilet required some maintance as sink was cracked. it would help if there was walk-in showers in the rooms.
