    Staff very polite. Manager upgraded an extremely unclean room (107) and gave us a better one (410). Above comments refer to original room (107).

    Unclean room 107. Broken off toilet seat, unclean toilet, grubby walls & mirror, inoperable shower, extremely noisy - especially from outside door continually slamming shut.

    We ended up with one of the best rooms in the hotel so that was great. The meals were excellent and good value, the staff were great. I would definately stay there again.

    The gym could have been slightly better but nonetheless it was still good.

    The hotel was convenient. the staff were friendly - and, importantly, smiled a lot.

    I did not like unpacking the car, taking the luggage to recepion, booking in, then being told "It's best to drive round to your room". Having then driven round we couldn't find a parking place. The lift was out of order and I was not inclined to wait for assistance. We were short of a bath towel and it took 3 requests to eventually get one, eventually arriving at 10:30pm. I dislike piped music in the Restaurant, especially at breakfast.

    Everything very good could not ask for more.

    The bar was very exspensive and not a great choice on the menu for evening meals, and did not seem to vary at all.

    The breakfast was good (except if you wanted scrambled eggs) and the restaurant staff were friendly and efficient. The bed was comfortable, the hotel looked very clean, the bar staff friendly and the facilities seemed good value for money.

    Reception staff unsatisfactory and failed to advise the taxi we requested would come from Didcot for a 5 minute journey so fare was £18.50 when it should have been less than £5. No parking spaces when we returned from wedding.

    Great facilities, we made use of the day spa & thought this was wonderful

    Despite the lovely look of the hotel & the wonderful facilities we were really disappointed with the breakfast which had a canteen feel.

    Room was clean and well presented. Free tea and coffee stations around the hotel were appreciated as were the soft drinks in the games room.

    We got to the hotel an hour early and were told that we were way too early to check in (bit of an exageration). We didn't come across any other guests whilst walking around the hotel and grounds so booking people in early as a good will gesture would have made the experience a better one.

    Nice buildings and grounds.

    There seemed to be very low moral amongst the staff who whilst not rude did not genuinely treat use like valued customers. There was a very long queue to check out. When I did checkout staff were having a minor quarrel about the long checkout queue. Asked for a morning paper which never arrived. Was constantly pressured to eat in the restaurant.

    should make it clear that most of the rooms are in the annex rather than the main building. I didn't mind, but an older couple might want to know that it is a bit of a distance to walk from the rooms to the bar/restaurant/pool etc

    i was led to believe from your web site that i would be staying in a beautiful country house not in a "travel lodge" at the back, this should have been made clear at time of booking.

    Excellent food; staff attentive; gym/swim was great to use at the end of a hard day of shopping!

    Our safe did not work and when we contacted reception. no-one came to fix it for us so we had to take any valuables with us to dinner! A pity the bedroom block didnt have the same charm as the main building.

    Better signs on arrival to say 'park here & register before unloading'as rooms are a long way from reception. i dragged all my stuff in then had to go back to car to drive to room!No elect. plug near desk for kettle or computor.

    The standard of food was really exceptional and it was very fairly priced.

    The electrical sockets in the room did not all work. The internet connection was too far from available electrical sockets.

    Modern room

    Restaurant was flooded and no food was available at all in the hotel for dinner. I was told that I could go to a nearby pub for my dinner. I am single female business traveller and the hotel is situated in the countryside. I would not have felt safe going to a pub for dinner on my own. The hotel did not offer any other form of refreshment so I had to drive to Abingdon to Tesco! Totally unacceptable.

    staff very friendly and helpful. coffee points very welcome, room very clean. bar well stocked. breakfast, as expected a full english and nothing too much trouble, ie more toast, tea etc...............

    Evening meal menu limited. I basically paid about 30 pounds for two cheeseburgers with frys and side salad. Should have gone to Mc Donalds round the corner.

    Really good rooms with all facilities and very clean.

    Because of a wedding in the hotel on Saturday we had to wait until after 8.00 pm to have dinner and then had to wait another half an hour before we could order our food.

    Very Clean, staff very attentive. Free coffee and soft drinks - help yourself, a great touch. fantastic gardens and grounds, with lawn games to keep everyone ammused.

    some people moaned that you have to go outside to get to the rooms, but it is a short covered walkway, caused no problems so no issue for us.

We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to friends.     We thought the quality of the furnishings was very good and very comfortable. The bed was extremely comfortable and the colour coordination of the room was very attractive. We were both impressed by the fact that the window had a blind as well as luxurious curtains.

    The size of the closet - the fact that it held the refreshment trolley hindered what could be hung/contained in it.

    Comfortable room and friendly staff

    Nothing really. Decor in the public areas could do with refurbishing but it was not a problem. The restaurant is temporarily housed in a marquee which was cold at times (blustery March weather outside) and this was not properly made clear at the time of booking (there was a note on the venue's website but right at the bottom).

    "Over all it was a comfortable nights sleep. However there were no towel rails in the bathroom and the air vent didn't work. The restaruaunt facilities were basic due to the refurbishment ongoing which we were not informed about, had we been we would have made alternative arrangements for dinner.The food was very limited. Given I have been in the hotel and outside catering trade for 20 years I found the standard of food very disappointing. As the building work will obviously take a few more months I would have hoped that better facilites to provide a greater varitey of food on the menu would have been a priority." (97422764)

    "This was a last minute booking and we were extremely pleased with everything. All Staff were very accomodating and friendly. Grounds were beautiful. Pool and spar, sauna and steam room made it a special. There was also a gym. The coffee stations (free drinks & biscuits)around the hotel were a very special touch and one I have never seen before. Breakfast was very good, but would suggest the pub The PackHorse, five minutes walk was the very best for evening meals, more choice and cheaper than hotel restaurant. would visit this hotel again and recommend it."     We had a newly refubished room which was very good. All facilities good. i.e. pool with spa etc. grounds

    No twin beds & not enough storage space in room, lack of drawers.

    beautiful surroundings. lovely edwardian building
