    Good food although pricey

    "The hotel does not warrant its four star rating and is old and tired. we would never recommend the hotel to anyone" (108863547)

    Bathroom was new and well appointed

    The bed was extremly hard the frame was made as a fold away with dust visible down the back. the carpets around the hotel had not been hoovered properly. We requested a taxi the company used by the hotel took advantage of our lack of knowledge of the area and overcharged for our journey. On both nights of our stay the fire alarm went off staff had no regard for visitors relating to this

    Good room, good spa facilities, good restaurant, good service.

    Hotel undergoing refurbishment which was not reflected in price. Parts of the hotel in some disorder and our room smelled of paint.

    polite helpful friendly staff

    concrete mattress...i had a dreadful sleep as i have 2 pro lapsed discs and am awaiting to see a surgeon..in future the firmness of the beds should be in the details of the hotel as i had pain all night. it was valentines night as well, so kinda upset me.

    "I was generally disappointed with the accommodation given that the hotel has a 4* rating. I was concerned, as were other guests, that a fixed charge of £125.00 was made to my credit card when I arrived, despite the fact that I confirmed that I did not plan to eat at the hotel. This is not standard practice in other hotels I have stayed in." (97571932)

    The staff on Reception were pleasant.

    The decor of the corridors was dated. The decor and furniture in the room was dated and basic. There was no mini-bar in the room and no extraction in the bathroom. The windows were covered in condensation throughout my stay resulting in water pooling on the windowsills. There was no way of controlling the room temperature.

    The heating in the room did not work, the windows whistled and let in cold air. The service in the Restaurant was slow, the food expensive for the portions provided. The meal on the first night (steak pudding) was inadequately cooked and had little to no meat in the filling, the veg consisted of half a dozen thinly cubed piecesof potatoe and several thinly sliced pieces of carrot. Being without transport I was unable to find an alternative restaurant for the second night of my stay so unfortunately I had to dine again at the hotel, the service was slow and again the food was over priced for the portions provided. On ordering a large glass of wine I was given 2 small glasses as the bar staff had apparently ran out of large ones.

    Location and liesure facilities.

    Smokers rooms too close to non smokers rooms. General standard of room was a little tired.

    "There was no facility to watch the boxing which surprised many quests. The room that i booked on line was unavailable on the night!! I booked a double room and had to make do with a twin which could not be explained by the staff. This did spoil my stay and although the accomodation and staff were generally good i will not book a Thistle Hotel again as i cant be guaranteed what i actually booked!" (97384418)

    Rooms small and old. Bathrooms need upgrade and look 20 years old. Hotel was grubby.

    Unique identity for a branded hotel chain. Comfy bed with lots space.

    Mini bar empty...? Limited choice on the room service menu - to varied and over the top for what people want in their room.

    Very good dinner in the restaurant and leisure centre very good.

    our 'Executive' room was far from Executive. The walls were marked and dirty, the carpet stained, the shower old and tired, the room too hot and the bed too small. I needed a shower cap to be told that they were not supplied!

    Pleasant setting, handy location

    "Our stay followed friends' wedding reception. The staff were polite and friendly and always available when needed. The hotel in general was clean. Although not a huge hotel it is a fair size but there was adequate signage to ensure you didn't get lost. Initially we booked a room without breakfast but upon check-in requested breakfast, this was offered to us at the same rate as the other wedding guests instead of the normal hotel rate." (99731043)

    "I already knew the room entrance required going outside, having read other reviews. I also knew the place had a rather run-down feel, in need of a lick of paint, etc. I did not know how poor the sound insulation would be. I could hear every work of my neighbour's phone conversation, his TV programs, and his incessant snoring. I was woken every time someone went down the corridor during the night. This was not helped by the fact that the doors can't be closed quietly due to the card locks. The gym/pool had good facilities, but not particularly clean. The signs were poor, it often not being evident what they related to. Many had no arrows and/or were away from their subject. One in the sauna instructed guests not to fill the water from the pool, but neglected to offer an alternative." (99824097)

    "The online booking and information couldn't have been easier and the hotel was very easy to find from the M25. There was some painting/decorating work being carried out during my stay but this did not affect me directly. The breakfast is a bit pricey at " (99687283)
