    "Staff not very helpful and rude in some cases" (108423691)

    Clean and comfortable room, food to a high standard

    Numerous problems with wrong food orders, delays and telling us the restuarant was closed but still 10 minutes until published last order time, 2nd bottle of wine being ordered after starter but not arriving until after main course.

    Very nice hotel, friendly & helpful staff, good value. Also enjoyed the breakfasts in the morning, very tasty!

    excellent hotel highly recommended free parking a boost as hotel is only a 5 minute walk from everything food good and cooked to order might have to wait a bit longer but it is well worth it, room was very clean and bed was very comfortable

    superb freshly cooked to order breakfast. helpful staff especially with regard to parking. free parking at hotel and staff make all attempts to ensure all guests cars are parked there. good location - only 5 minutes walk from city centre.

    if i had to find a bad point it would be the shower which was a bit old and not very powerful

    "Upon entering the hotel we were overwhelmed by the lovely fragrance of the fresh lilies, the fragrance followed us wherever we went in the hotel, this was a very special touch. Excellent English breakfast cooked to order, another special touch was the bird sounds played over the speakers during breakfast. Excellent staff very friendly and helpfull. Above all we were most impressed by the way the management maintain the decor and furnishings much as it must have been when it was a Regency town house." (97069000)

    "A friendly hotel with experienced, welcoming staff. Everything very clean and fresh milk for the tea/coffee (on request) in our room was appreciated. The restaurant had some difficulty following directions for Gluten Free food and managed to badly burn the Gluten Free bread I took with me! Everything was, however apologised for and put right where possible!A lovely atmosphere." (97299712)

    Clean and containing everything we needed. Very friendly reception and reayaurant staff. Lovely reception rooms and communal areas.

    A little overpriced for a small room right next to a busy road.

    "Fresh milk supplied on request in room for tea/coffee making. Great food available in lovely Ivy restaurant as well as Cellar bistro. Our room was on ground floor behind reception and could be a little noisy at times (speakers from cellar bar below, busy traffic outside, nightporter banging reception door occasionally!) Would ask for a different room if visiting again. Car parking limited but staff do excellent job of moving them around to accommodate everyone." (97315623)

    Location close to centre was good.

    The bathroom sink was large and hence I had to stand quite a way from the bathroom mirror. Hence it was to difficult to see myself properly when shaving.

    "Very nice hotel - excellent for autumn break.High on comfort. Decor excellent. Breakfast good quality but service v slow.     Generous sized room. Well appointed bathroom. Comfortable bed.

    No lift, so a steep climb to reach our first floor room, especially from the carpark.

    "A very pleasant stay in a hotel perfectly positioned for quick walking access to York centre. Apart from the room being slightly cramped and the cold water tap on the sink being a lttle temperamental the facilities were extremely good. The staff were always very polite and helpful."     "The only cocern i had with the hotel was the towel heater in the bathroom which was dangerously hot,and i burnt my shoulder as i caught it on it picked something up off the floor" (99369998)

    The whole place was lovely , very nice suprise to see that my standard twin room booking was infact a 4 poster bed at no extra cost.

    "Overall, I thought the Hotel was lovely, and very nicely decorated, in a comfortable country house style. I would like to have known beforehand that the Ivy Resturant was fully booked, as I did request dinner on my reservation, however we did enjoy our meal in The Brasserie. Air-condition or perhaps even a fan in the bedrooms would have made my stay more comfortable." (2420041)

    The accommodation was delightful, the whole place gave a feeling of relaxation and comfort, however it was a very hot week-end, the hottest of the yesr, and we did not have air-conditioning, however I was thankful to have a proper window which I could open, unfortunately the air outside was just as warm as the air inside.

    I would have rated the Hotel excellant if it had air-conditioning

    The authenticity of the hotel mixed with the newly finished decorating within the entrance hall and resturants and the choice of fantastic food on offer at both resturants and breakfast. We really enjoyed the choice at breakfast.

    The rooms although attempting to retain the orginal features, which I agree with appeared to be tired and need of updating.

    Excellent food and service. Very relaxing hotel with old-fashioned and traditional style and comforts unlike modern hotels.

    No lift. Lack of power points in the room.

    "Pleasant old fashioned hotel a short walk from York attractions but in a quiet area. The staff were very pleasant as was the decor and breakfast. It was easy to drive to and plenty of parking. It was a shame the bed was so small because the room seemed big enough for a larger bed. There is no lift which was not a problem for us even though we were on the 2nd floor but obviously some people would need to ensure they were on the ground floor." (1280455)
