    Hotel has recently been refurbished, and is very attractive. Room was very pleasant and staff were excellent.

    We had asked when booking for a room with bath - but this request had not been transmitted to the hotel staff on the spot. Our original reserved room had only a shower. However the manager arranged for us to be moved to a room which did have a bath.

    Very clean; friendly and well mannered staff. Hotel having it's own car park.

    We did not have breakfast (petit dejeuner) because we considered it overpriced.

    Good refreshing up to date decor,Room very clean and has all the basic essentials, athough contents of the fridge/bar were very limited. staff are very friendly and polite

    The reataurant has disappeared, the food used to be excellent, however there are some good restaurants about, though we did not enjoy our meal in the Histoire Ancienne restaurant the steak was digusting to say the least

    central location and free car park

    Biterly cold weekend, temperatures 1-3 centigrade. Room took a very very long time to get warm. Simple instructions on how to make the best of the air con/heating system would have helped. Tea / Coffee making facilites and supplies were inadequate, plastic stirrers instead of teaspoons were an insult!!

    Staff very friendly & made every effort to speak English when our French fell short!

    Lift out or order throughtout stay & no notifiaction of this prior to our arrival. Several flights of stairs to climb with asthma got tiring.

    calais has a very nice Mercure Hotel. I realize it is new but the decoration and comfort, and friendly staff, are a bonus.

    no problems, everything was fine

    none; we have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few years & ever since last summer renovations have been taking place - progress is slow! This hasn't affected the quality of our stay at all, bit it seems to be taking ages to get the renovations completed. This isn't a complaint, just an observation. The manager says he hopes it will all be finished soon.

    "We usually stay in the Ibis but on this occasion we stayed in the Mercure to be within walking distance of Le Channel. We feel the Ibis is better value. If the hotel had a great dining room we might come back (eating and sleeping in the same venue appeals to us) but otherwise it is too expensive " (107522176)

    Free and secure parking. Very pleasantly decorated. Clean. Staff attentive and helpful. Invited to join in the celebration for the completion of the renovation. Much more attractive internally than the old George 5.

    Weren't able to get twin beds but accepted that the hotel was quite full. We didn't find the bed very comfortable - too soft but perhaps that is a personal choice. The room was very small, just about tolerable for one night. No hot water on Friday morning. Breakfast was a bit chaotic (toaster didn't work, staff chatting behind screen ignoring guests). Door key needed a lot of patience. Not many channels on the TV. No dining room for evening meals(?) Couldn't see any reference to this in the material in the room. Years ago the George 5 had 2 chimneys and we came mainly for the food, then it went downhill.

    Lovely room. Good breakfast.

    We asked for a room with bath, as my wife does not like showers. we got a room with shower only. However this was soon changed and we got a lovely room with bath when we complained. Main complaint was at breakfast time - when we got into the breakfast room about 95% of the tables had been used and not cleared. More and more guests came in and had to sit at dirty tables. There was no excuse for this, and it creates a very bad impression.

    "Have stayed at this hotel on many occasions, and feel its general standard has fallen. They also wanted to charge 15 euros for breakfast! which we felt was a bit high. One point I would like to make, when I came to pay I was informed that the room was prepaid, this has not happened with Active Hotels before. Could you please comment." (107711819)

    the hotel used to have a very good restaurant, this has now closed and is not going to open again. This is a real pity because it was one of the reasons for staying there.

    Clean room, nice beds, friendly staff, central location and small car park which we were able to park in luckily

    Bqth very skippy my 5 yeqr old boy slipped right under the water. Breakfast not great - sausages had run out. We left our pillow there (an expensive tepura foam one) and rang to ask about it. No-one has been in touch to say it has been found - which is not good customer service and if it has not been found then someone has taken it. Not very impressed with that.

    All the staff were extremely helpful and very pleasant. The hotel itself, despite the refurbishment was excellent and really comfortable. I would and will recommend anyone to stay here. A great experience, thank you.

    Excellent family room, obviously recently refurbished,(apparently refurbishment of all hotel finishes in Sept of this year). Would have no problems recommending. Accomadation in centre of town, so good location.

    No carpet, no ceiling cover, fittings lining corridor. Picture on Internet did not correspond to room which had not been renovated. Marketing materials pertaining to hotel depicted appearance after renovation, which was in progress far from completion. No warning given at time of booking that hotel was construction site.

    "Good hotel, very clean with excellent rooms. " (97105421)

    The rooms have just been refurbished and are of an excellent standard. It's extremely good value for money.

    There is still some decorating work going on but it didn't effect us in the slightest. The biggest down side is the nightclub that is underneath, you need to have a room away from the main road otherwise it's noisy.

    Hotel was in course of a refurbishment but no mention was made when booking. Small car park with small spaces laid out for cars. Mine over-lapped the white lines

    "For a superior double I was disappointed with size of the room, although it had been refurbished and all the furniture was new. However we could not open the door into the room all the way as it opened onto the edge of the bed. Refurbishment was ongoing on 1st floor so lots of banging and drilling. Difficult to checkin with parking very limited on main street, very small car park - we were lucky to get a space. Breakfast very expensive - ?13 p.p. " (97038519)

    Comfortable bed, clean linen, good shower, tea making facilities

    Small room for a superior,TV reception bad, mini bar fridge not cold, could not open door completely into the room as bed was in the way, refurbishment on 1st floor and reception, very small lift.

    Pleasant helpful staff.

    No hot water throughout our stay. No water at all in hot tap in the shower. Air conditioning was not effective. At breakfast, scrambled egg was finished, so was the bacon.

    "i was pleased that the concierge spoke English, but equally pleased that when he realised I spoke French, he conversed with me in french allowing me to practise!" (97625550)

    The bed was extremely comfortable which is very important for someone who has trouble sleeping away from home!! It was clean and tastefully decorated. The concierge was very helpful and polite. There was a secure car park.

    They were clearly in the middle of refurbishment, so the floor surfaces in the corridors and entrance hall were bare concrete! Not very aesthetic. The operating of the electrics was not explained on our arrival ( the room key needed to activate it via a slot!) and so we thought the lights weren't working!There was a lot of shouting in the night from the nearby casino - but there again it was Saturday!

    It was easy to find, the staff were pleasant, the room and bathroom were larger than one might have expected, and recently redecorated to a good standard.

    Admittedly we arrived fairly late, but the car park was full and we had to park on the street a little way from the hotel, and to get back to the car by 9 am before the parking charges started for the day. The hotel was undergoing a major refurbishment, with bare floors (awaiting re-carpetting) etc. We thought that perhaps there should have been a discount off the normal prices during the refurbishment.
