    The staff were welcoming and very attentitive. The room was clean, spacious and elegant with a good bathroom and a lovely view. Very grand setting. Fantastic food.

    Nothing significant, though as a relatively isolated Manor House there is no option to walk out to local pub/restuarants as an alternative to eating in.

    Friendly service particularly reception staff and restaurant staff at breakfast. Imposing hotel with first rate ambience and decor. Room although compact was elegantly fitted. Good bathroom and high quality soaps etc. Really good.

    Clean, spacious comfortable room with an excellent view in peaceful surroundings. Very good food and wine selction in the restaurant.

    No fridge/min-bar in the room. Drinks over-priced in the bar/restaurant.

    The rooms , hall, reception rooms are fantastic. The staff are lovely fun and the food and wine were great. This is an expensive hotel but excellent and worth it.

    The shower/ bath is odd. It took me 10 minutes to realise that the temp control for the shower operates the temp control for the bath. The shower itself pulsed with water and my wife did not like.

    It is a big old manor house which still retains its character and is not impersonal

    The high cost of the restaurant, although it was good quality

    "The staff called us on the morning of the day we were due to arrive to ask if we wanted dinner and waht time we wanted afternoon tea - nice touch. we very much enjoyed the afternoon tea although ahd it not been part fo a promotional offer might have seemed a bit expensive." (97331749)

    Lovely setting, excellent food comparable with michelin starred restaurants we have used, friendly and attentive staff.

    That we couldn't stay longer!!

    "On the second night of my stay the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night. Although it subsequently turned out to be a false alarm the experience was very unsettling in that there appeared to be no staff in the hotel to supervise the evacuation of guests from the building or explain what was happening apart from a night porter with a poor command of English. Had there been a real fire this apparent lack of any proper organisation could have potentially had disasterous consequences. The following morning surely explanation of what had happened and a simple apology to should have been given to guests?! Sadly, nothing was said on my departure." (97145623)

    The room (Roxby)was small. The bathroom wass poorly laid out ie you virtually had to climb over the toilet to enter the shower and the lighting was wholly inadequate.

    "This is a gem of an hotel. 'Though almost full, it was quiet and peaceful., No piped music, or people on the way from the pool, gym or golf course. Unlike many 'Country House' hotels, this one is just that. Not a few restored public rooms and facade, with a modern accomodation block behind. All the rooms are original. The restaurant was a little pricey, but the food was local, tasty and imaginative. Coupled with a friendly and knowledgable maitre d', the experience was very pleasant" (99555613)

    "The building and setting of Crathorne Hall is impressive and relaxing. My bedroom was thoughtfully set out using good quality furnishings, etc., without being ostentatious. This made for a very relaxing evening. Quite reasonably priced (through activehotels) and as such very good value for money." (99991213)

    "On arriving at Crathorne Hall, it was like something out of Brideshead Revisited. The hall itself seems to have a lot of history, dating back to 1903. Our room was a good size and very clean. Staff are friendly. A nice touch was a decent size tv and dvd player in the room, with films available from reception. Drinks and meals were also reasonably priced. Overall a very pleasant stay, and would recommed a stay at this hotel." (99516849)

    The hotel itself was just simply stunning and well worth he money i felt like an aristocrat for the night. The food was second to none and the service excellent, the staff were warm and friendly and incerdibly efficient.

    "We attended as a bulk family booking for 11 people. The hotel was fine as a base but beware expensive bar prices. Some of the bedrooms were lovely, ours happened not to be! The staff were delightful - very willing, polite and helpful." (99221835)

    I liked the hotel grounds and the spaciouness and style of the main corridors.The gardens and architectural style are lovely.

    We had a group family booking and the accommodation quality varied. Our room, Cleveland, was dark, poorly lit and looked tired. It was very cold until we turned heat on but this took several hours to come to comfortable temperature. The room was small in comparison to the others, and we had to edge around the television.

    "If I had known how obliging, courteous and attentive the staff were, I would have stayed here ages ago. As a Director of an organisation that trains hotel staff at all levels throughout the world, I am pleased to say that this level of service is comparable with the best that can be offered in the Middle East and the best of the Riviera.     General condition of the hotel and rooms was good with everything tidy, working and not looking like it hadnt been touched for thirty years. Very good breakfast, properly served with great view.

Some of the fabric of the building starting to look a little faded, although not detracting from the experience. Dinner was good, but not exceptional (more nouvelle cuisine than North Yorkshire). Wine list was good quality, but a 'house wine' option at a little lower cost would be appreciated by thos eworking within company expense account rules.     Although no bath, the shower was clean, modern and of a good size.

    "The stay at crathorne hall was for a wedding and from start to finish the staff could not have done anymore than they had to help make it the most memorable day that it was. We stayed in the farndale room and it was very comfortable and spotlessly clean,And for my wife and i it was very good value for money and we would definatly book to go there again. If there is one complaint it would be that anyone with a mobility problem should be made aware of the amount of stairs and passage ways that are to be walked to reach ones room." (3305021860)

    "Arrogant bar staff serving well overpriced drinks. Room could do with a deep clean Breakfast - orders for me and surrounding tables were wrong, when challenged the arrogance of some staff came through again. Suggest fitted exterior lighting to the fron where the outdoor tables are before you get sued for someone tripping over. Its predictable that during hot evenings people want to sit outside."     "I was a little apprehensive as some reviews had had some complaints, but I thought the lack of bar was a bonus, and had no problems at all with the heating - if anything it was a little warm in the bedroom but the window left open overnight was perfect.I wish we had known about the valet service in advance then we wouldn't have parked the car in the car park! This hotel makes me think of hotels in the Poirot era - old fashioned, traditional, marvellous food, and someone to say you're welcome when you thank them." (3304612947)

    Everything - the food, the service, the fact they had a valet, the fact there was no bar and you had drinks brought to your lounge table, the food, the food, the food, the fact they placed us away from the main hotel because there was a wedding celebration going on, the fact the receptionist whispered we could hang out of the window to have a cigarette in a no smoking room as she had no where to move us

    The quality of our room was excellent- having been one which had recently been refurbished. The service both to the room and in the lounge was quick, courteous and efficient.

    "First class ambience at Crathorne Hall - matched by the excellent, well trained and attentive staff. The book in the room explaining the history of the hotel gave a fascinating insight into what life was like in days gone by. Dinner was excellent but the wine was a bit pricey for what it was. £7.75 for a 250ml glass of ordinary chardonnay! Overall a good hotel, I will book in again." (2862800)

    Room shower was not the best, and there were 9 dead flies on the window sill when I entered the room at first.

    "Having stayed previously at this hotel, I confidently re-booked for a 3 night stay to attend business in Stockton-on-Tees. The hotel itself comprises an extremely interesting an attractive Edwardian building, circa 1903. The grounds and setting is charming. The bedrooms are spacious and the common rooms are old world with decor in good taste. However, the bar does not contain a bar as such and is really a lounge which relies on the occasional visit of a waiter to be served. Breakfast is superb, however, if one requires room service then this is not the hotel to stay at. I found it impossible to obtain the food ordered, e.g. an order for a salmon and cucumber sandwich with no butter and a side salad, arrived as a smoked salmon and cucumber sandwich with butter, no side salad but a pot of vinegar as dressing! The quality of the food was poor. On the third night I imported my own food as I could not face another room serevice experience." (2609214)

    We were pleased with the quality of the hotel. The staff were very helpful and pleasant.

    The hotel looks a little tired, especially in communal areas. Plus warn you that the drinks in the bar are double maesures not singles as assumed.
