    "Lovely hotel with great character. Very helpful staff. Superbly cooked food for breakfast, lunch and evening meals. Good selection of beers." (108476879)

    Excellent food from resteauant. Full english breakfast. Large bed, crisp white bedding. Clean throughout. Very hardworking and helpful staff.

    An extra member of staff would have been of benefit but didn't affect our stay. Some minor maintenence required as a few small leaks to conservatory annex in heavy downpour.

    Friendly staff

    Room not made up for post 2pm check-in. We weren't told & only discovered it when we got to room. Could not cope with the numbers at breakfast on Sunday am -no control of seating, tables not cleared & staff clearly out of their depth. Mistake on our bill that could not be clarified because relevant receipts could not be found.

    Excellent food, staff were great, rooma were pleasant. Overall I would stay again.

    A family group had booked, around 12 of us stayed for min of 2 nights, and there was confusion over the booking of a couple within our group on the Friday evening, although this was sorted eventually.

    Well positioned with good car park and friendly helpful staff.

    Everywhere looking a little tired. Rooms and corridors need a good cleaning at the edges where the vacuum doesn't reach. Empty coffee cup left on window sill for length of our stay. Could do with a paint here and there. Needs a general sprucing up.

    Character Good food Nice setting

    Faded grandeur - the hotel needs a lot of work to bring it up to scratch Bathroom did not meet expectations - peeling paintwork; leaking taps; towel rail constantly on.

    Lovely location, good value tasty food (2 meals for £9.95) with good range of facilities in room.

    Two beds put together made an uncomfortable night's sleep and the bathroom needs updating (bath not very appealing).

    Really good value for money, fantastic service, friendly, comfortable, great food, and had a fab time.

    I am a light sleeper in a strange room, so could hear next door making noise during the night and early morning, but apart from that, all good !

    the staff were very good

    there was not enough staff - it seemed that 3 members of staff had to do everything - reception/bar/breakfast/cleaning!! Our booking could not be located. We then were given a room that was not ready to be occupied - the linen was all on the floor.

    "I and my wife were overall satisfied but noticed stress amongst other guests who may have had deadlines to keep." (107888452)

    The setting of the hotel is delightful and the local area is excellent.

    The hotel was sadly understaffed and the people working there were under a strained atmosphere to keep all the guests satisfied. This situation was obvious at breakfast time.

    Country hotel with character. Informal Very good breakfast except below. Room nice and warm.

    No veggie sausages! Surely it's easy enough to keep a packet in the freezer! I offered to pop down to the Co-op and buy some!! Beer quality not good. (Greene King IPA) Would also have been good to have been offered a locally brewed well-kept guest ale.

    Ample car parking. I thought the bed in my room (9) was very comfortable, and gave me a good night's sleep. This hotel is very visible and easy to find.

    Classic old English style hotel, excellent reception, good room with very comfortable king size bed, plenty of free parking.

    Restaurant a bit pricey - but food good.

    Leaking tap in bathroom. Dangerous Standard lamp in room the bulb was missing. Half hour wait in the restaurant for dinner. Being presented with a bill for a meal that I did not have at check out.

    "In general I liked the Hotel however the service at breakfast was poor. Whilst it was self service several guests had to ask for jugs etc. to be topped up and tables were not regularly cleared and prepared for the next guest." (97862294)

    It was generally very comfortable and the Hotel had a relaxed atmosphere.

    I found the room quite noisy so that it would have been a problem if you needed to get to sleep early.

    "The public parts of this hotel are great and the staff very helpful and friendly. The rooms in the main part of the building may be be better but the rooms at the back of the hotel (the new part) are not great - therre is no excuse for non working showers and mouldy wall tiles!" (97834651)

    Great bar and dining area, very helpful staff.

    Shower didn't work, mouldy tiles in the bathroom, newspapers not delivered to room but left in lobby to collect, walls paper thin.

    Friendly and mostly professional. Room size - very good. Cleanliness - good. Dinner and breakfast very adequate.

    Room situated above the kitchen - this caused the room to be filled with unpleasant 'cooking' smells and the extractor fan was noisy!

    "The location is lovely, a peaceful village just outside Winchester. There is no problem with parking, either in the hotel car park or on the road outside. My initial booking required alteration and this was done with one quick easy phone call, and was no bother at all. I would definately use this hotel again, and would recommend it to anyone planning a trip to the Winchester area." (99799786)

    A quiet hotel in a lovely location, at a reasonable price.

    There was laundry left on the corridor floor for 24 hours, but that is only a minor gripe and did not reflect on the quality or friendliness of the staff.

    "Even though we paid a lesser price than the hotel advertised, we still expected a certain standard of decor. The ceiling in the room had a large, bubbling damp patch. The radiator was on constant high (which could not be turned off). And as we were on the ground floor, we were reluctant to open the window all night, in order too make the heat less uncomfortable.     The website promoted quality accomodation, in a classic rural setting. The location was lovely.

    The quality of the room was very disappointing.

    The smoking rooms were next to the non smoking rooms and so there was a strong smell of tobacco in the corridor.
