    Inability to book a table for dinner due to group staying. Bar dinner OK, but would have preferred the restaurant.

    Carpark restrictive especially for large vehicles.Shower not so good. Housekeeping; Crisps dropped in corridor during a wedding reception on evening Sat 23rd, still there at departure Monday 25th-not pleasant

    "Happened to get a great inclusive price for bed and breakfast so we felt both fortunate and privileged to stay at The Feathers." (107874771)

    Beautiful historic Jacobean building. Visited many times over the years but never stayed the night. The James 1 sitting room for residents is unbelievable with its period panelling, embellished overmantle and intricate ceiling plasterwork - what a dream of a room in which to relax on a winter's evening.

    None really. Woodchip wallpaper in the bedroom isn't right in a period setting and lets the side down.

    Old world charm but modern facilities. Warm atmosphere everywhere and roaring fires in public areas. Very good food in restaurant

    Long rambling route to room with poor direction signs. Insufficient car parking for number of rooms. Modern double-glazed windows not fitting well into old building (one window in room had to be forced to close but still had draught).

    Quality of bathroom, bath-towels, comfort of beds, excellent. Breakfast, and the service at breakfast, was also excellent, in fact, one of the finest english breakfasts I have had away from home during recent months.

    No bad points, but just a feeling that hotel was perhaps relying too heavily on its past reputationm did not get impression that it was, from our brief view, very business conscious - perhaps, unfairly, after such a short stay, left with question of how will hotel survive in present intensely competitive business world.?

    "The Feathers is a super hotel with plenty of history but not lacking in any mod cons. It was clean and warm, the staff were very friendly and attentive they couldn't do enough to help." (97871949)

    We were upgraded to a room with a four poster bed and a jacuzzi bath, at no extra cost, the whole experience was excellent.

    Location , well presented , quiet room

    No air conditioning . Appalling performance on the first night in the dining room . Your guest information booklet gave 6.30 as the start time , we arrived at 6.50 , and it was 7.20 before we finally made it to a table . During that time three more guests arrived , were ignored , and eventually went . We persevered as it was raining and we had driven a long way that day . We finally managed to extract menus from a waiter who clearly resented our presence and who seemed to be trying to indicate that we were not wanted . When we finally achieved a table he spent much of his time ferrying food into the cafe . There were only two other diners , and I am not surprised . The following evening we had intended to go out [nothing would have persuaded us to use the restaurant again] , but it rained again , and we used the cafe . The contrast was remarkable-welcoming bar staff , pleasant surroundings , clientele who were obviously regulars , and the same high quality food as the restaurant . Breakfast in the dining room , however was adequate , but your staff unwelcoming .

    "We have visited the feathers on numerous previous occasions on our travels, but had not stayed previously. We booked the Feathers because of recent experience when we stopped for a meal on route home.However on this occasion we found the meal far from satisfctory. The plates and food were cold, the fish and chips cold and chips not cooked. The waiter returned our food to the kitchen and it came back quickly but the fish and chips were now overcooked and inedible.We did complain and were not charged for the food but it rather spoiled our stay as we had booked the rooms because of the previous experience and emjoyment of the chefs culinary skills. I would like to think that we will visit again but when on leisure breaks the food and accomodation have both to be of a high standard. I would be reluctant to recommend the hotel for this reason."     Central location. Good bathroom.

    Room too hot and unable to open window properly due to fouling curtains and pelmet. We were told that this was a common problem with most of the rooms and they would have to do something about it. We were in room 133 which seemed to be located above the restaurant. The incessant banging of the In and Out doors between the kitchen and the restaurant was very loud in the room and went on all the time the restaurant was open and did not cease until about 11.30pm.

    "The dinner and breakfast were very disappointing and very poor vaue for money. Dinner under the guise of modern cuisine was uninspiring and tasteless. A steak lacked flavour and texture and was tough and chewy. When brought to the notice of the restauant manager, he said that the chef should speak to the butcher Breakfast was worse, lacking flavour and substance with poor, slow service." (3304809042)

    "The hotel met our requirements of being centrally located in Ludlow with parking. The hotel was steeped in history and had lots of character. Our room, including the bathroom, was large and comfortable, the bedroom came complete with a four poster bed. The staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Like most British hotels of this kind the decor could do with a facelift but this did not detract from a thoroughly enjoyable stay." (3304851702)

    Welcome with free upgrade was excellent, and attention to detail wonderful.Staff were very attentive and full of surprises.

    "Overall,we got the impression the hotel was resting on its laurels. It was not particularly welcoming - with a take it or leave it attitude. This may have been entirely erroneous but that's the feeling we got. Having said that,the waiter in charge of breakfast was excellent, with the right attitude, making you feel welcome and important as guests; and efficient with the service provided. He obviously knew his job. Perhaps some of the other staff could learn a lesson from him." (2691564)

    Central location.

    Cobwebs on ceiling beams added character but we could have done without them. Were told by reception in the evening that the bar just served 'snackies' and were directed to the restaurant. Then found out that the bar did actually serve adequate meals for what we required. So cancelled table in restaurant only to find that the two itmens on the bar menu which we wanted were no longer available.It frankly spoilt the whole evening esp as it was the wife's birthday. We should have been offered the choice of the two menus instead of being told the bar just had 'snackies'. Clearly we were being gently pushed towards using the restaurant. When asking whether there would be much of a delay in ordering in the restaurant we were told 'well it's not fast food like in a Macdonalds you know' - that we judged to be a rather flippant remark. The movie channel did not work. This we only discovered through phoning down twice. We were told at reception in the morning that they'd been having problems with the system.

    My only complaint was about the attitude of the waitress at dinner, when she learned I had not booked a table (yet the restaurant was nearly empty and I was never told to book!)I will say though in her defense that the subsequent service was very quick!

    "The Feathers is idealy situated in the centre of the town and is very convenient to the railway station; this makes it a good base from which to explore the region. Being an historic Jacobean building the hotel has much to commend it to overseas visitors but whilst a Jacobean ambiance is perfectly acceptable, visitors nevertheless expect 21st century standards of comfort.     The staff were friendly,helpful and very efficient. We enjoyed our evening bar meal the menu gave a good choice of food and it was nicely cooked and well presented

    Our stay, which in all other respects was very enjoyable was marred by the bed which was probably the most uncomfortable we have slept in away from our home.
