    The room we stayed in was nicely furnished and had a shared terrace. The owner is a very helpful guy and does his best to make you feel like home.

    The choice of food at breakfast buffet is rather poor.

    We booked The Northampton for two nights. Apparently they have been taken over recently and some of their policies have changed. After their first night stay our engineers wanted breakfast at 7.30am as it stated in the hotel book but they now serve from 8am and wouldn't even give the boys a croissant to take on the road with them for their 8am meeting. When I called the hotel to ensure they would get SOMETHING the next morning for breakfast (even if they left them a couple of bread rolls). The guy on reception said it wasn't in the night managers remit to put anything outside of a room and that we were lucky to be getting the accomodation for the price we were!!!! We cancelled the second night at the Northampton and will never us them again.

    "Hotel is currently undergoing a refurbishment, however this did not really disrupt my stay. My bedroom was adequate, although a little tired with it's woodchip wallpaper. Comfortable, but could be made alot better" (107895634)

    Location was close to my Business appointments. Room Rate was good value for money, I received a "Special Rate" when I booked, presumably because of the refurbishment work being undertaken.

    Missed breakfast 3 out of 4 mornings as it didn't start until 8:00am, although web site advertises 7:00 - 8:30. (8:00am start is too late for most business travellers). Notice on Bar said it closes at 10:00pm, I got back on several occassions at 9:30pm and found it closed. Facilities on website mentions "Restaurant", this was only available for breakfast, which meant going out for evening meals. Found 1 Indian Restaurant about 3/4 mile walk away, and 1 other hotel with restaurant facilities about 1-1/2 miles walk away. Anything else required a bus or taxi trip. Lounge(Conservatory) area only accessible whilst bar area open, this was the only proper place to sit and gain Wi-Fi/Wireless LAN access, so restricted me picking up my emails when I returned from my evening meal.

    breakfast was good and it was on a busy bus route into Edinburgh which made travel easy.

    Had to pay cash as their credit card machine wasn't working. This was disappointing. What if we hadn't had any spare cash?

    Excellent location for access to the city and, subsequently, the airport without having to go through the city. Extremely kind and helpful staff.

    The room met all of our needs, it just lacked charm and the mattresses were worn. We were on the third floor with two small children, a ton of luggage, and no lift; not a deal-breaker for us, but may be a problem for some.

    very nice people, good service. Clean and friendly hotel.

    located at a very trafficated road. Our room was facing the road and it was fairly noisy at night and in the morning. Better windows could help? But that was the only negative thing, really!

    "The facilities were very good. Breakfast was of a high standard and the people that ran the hotel were very polite and curteous. We stayed Sat/Sun night and it was only 2 miles into the city.     "Friendly hotel, easy to find and ten minutes from centre on very frequent bus route - a bus every 5 minutes or so from outside the hotel. Good car parking which saves you a lot of money parking in the centre of the city. A good, mid-grade hotel covenient for business or pleasure visits to the city." (99213421)

    "Having pre-warned the hotel about my walking difficulties, we were given a room (with tattered and torn lace curtain) up two flights of stairs! However, after discussion, we were moved to another room one floor down which was a great help. Noisy neighbours on communal veranda at late evening a bit of a problem. Should be locked off to all rooms?" (99526224)

    Fairly cheap, has good car parking and not far from city centre.

    Cleanliness of the en-suite toilet in particular was not good - bleach would help! Long walk around the building to get into the one door.

    Nice size room - modern/new loo/shower. Very comfortable bed.

    The fact the bar closed so early - we could not socialise with other guests when we returned from town. No veggie sausages or soya milk offered for vegetarians. or fruit dishes e.g. tinned prunes, grapefruit or good fruit selection.

    "The hotel was further from the city centre than expected for walking, although buses were frequent. The showers had cold water only on our final morning and no explanation was given from the management, only from the complaints of other guests. More staff are needed to make breakfast a smoother operation as guests were borrowing cutlery and crockery from other tables as the staff had disappeared into the kitchen. Extra tea, toast, sauces etc were not offered, with barely enough to start with, this had to be requested. However, the breakfast was good when it arrived.Good friendly advice from the management when asked any information on travel, Edinburgh etc." (99481707)

    Hotel was very clean well decorated staff were very friendly and helpful. Excellent service from the time of check-in to time of departure.

    Room TV was on the small side.

    The Hotel was close to local amenities and the satff were very friendly. The car park was easy to access and had plenty of parking spaces. The Hotel building itself was very well presented and clean.

    The room was a bit basic and the Television only had 4 channels and no satellite channels. I was told that the hotel had no smoking rooms.
