    Nice rooms, clean and well run.

    Expensive. Especially when charged £7 for English breakfast on top of room charge. Small slice of bacon,a sausage, egg and beans with small piece of fried bread. Would have preferred to have had this included in room charge as wasn't made clear by staff this was extra. Shortage of staff serving breakfasts but service good.

    "My partner and I stayed here as we both had business in the area the following day. We booked on-line and got a very competitive price compared to booking direct with the hotel. Overall the hotel was very nice, lovely gardens surrounded it. The staff were friendly, the room was very clean and there is ample parking. There was really nothing bad about our stay, however I found the restaurant a little expensive for the amount of food you got - although the food was very nice." (97849927)

    The accommodation was very nice, booking it through activehotels.com was much cheaper than booking with the hotel direct and therefore made it very competitive.

    I was nothing I disliked, however I would say the restaurant is very nice but quite expensive for the amount of food you get and after a hard days work for my partner did not quite fill him up!

    "This is a charming country house hotel in a quite 'almost-village' location on the northern edge of Halifax, with secure off-road parking. My room wasn't huge, but it was adequate and very comfortable. My only gripe is the use of expensive Swisscom for the broadband Internet provider: It works out at 18 times the price I pay at home."     Quiet location. Secure off-road parking.

    The hotel uses Swisscom for their broadband internet provider - this means (a) its expensive for a not very fast connection (£15/24 hrs) and (b) if something goes wrong (as it did for me) you have to dial a remote helpdesk to get assistance - nobody in the hotel can help you.

    The staff were very helpful and the hotel was clean and well kept. The bathroom was nice!! (but on the ground floor of the suite). The breakfast was very good (once we got seated 15 minutes later)

    The suite was more like a holiday flat and was a problem for me with a full staircase as I have mobility problems. It was last minute booking and paid

    "An on-line virtual tour would have been useful as the rooms and restaurant were extremely well presented. I know menus can and do change but it would have been useful to have seen a sample menu." (99864682)

    Nicely tucked away and very peaceful. Beautiful room and very good food although not plentiful. Staff very very pleasant and helpful.

    "My aim for the stay was to provide my partner with a romantic nights stay at a 17th century Manor house, but unfortunately once away from the main house I felt more like I was staying in a discount travel lodge. I'm not too sure how the system works but if I'm honest I would imaging the customers who are paying at a discount rate like myself end up with the budget rooms" (99593004)

    The hotel as a whole was a lovely place with a very welcoming atmosphere and very helpful staff

    "Being a hotel listed in Jacobsons I expected a much better standard of accomadations than I found at this hotel. I was lucky, I booked at the last minute and got a lower price than their rack rate for the room - had I paid full rate I would have been extremely upset about what I got. The receptionist on arrival could not do enough for me so a nice start to my stay but thereafter it was very bland and below the standard I expect for a non chain hotel." (99082152)

    The public areas of the hotel were quaint and cosy.

    Very disappointed in the room - size, decor, condition of furniture. It certainly did not come up to the projected expectations set by the write up. Secondly I found the general surroundings of the hotel a disappointment.

    "This hotel is a wonderful comfy place to chill out. Dinner in the restaurant was marvellous and guests can relax in comfort. The more basic rooms are probably coming up for a bit of refurbishment and could be made a bit more comfortable." (3304298489)

    The hotel is lovely but our room was quite small with a standard size double bed that was very hard! I think the room was probably used as a single most of the time as it was set up for one person and we had to ask for extra towels etc. The restaurant was excellent and we had a lovely meal. Having coffee by the fire was exremely relaxing.

    Restaurant, bar staff and especially the night porter were all very good. Reception was not quite as good and had the wrong dates for our stay but did fit us in.

    The hotel was quiet and very clean. Breakfast was very good and the service was excellent.

    Having a hair dryer in my room. Checking the room was ready to be used before showing the room to the guests.

    "I would like to have known that the accomodation was mainly based in an 'annexe' to the property with very little charm from the exterior, however the overall impression was good but there is a way to go before I believe that AA 'red stars' should be awarded (see above section)" (2396155)

    The ambience of the hotel and the helpfulness of the staff.

    Better cleanliness (dust in particular) within the bedrooms - this is commonplace amongst a great number of hotels (luxury or otherwise) these days it seems! Very basic range of refreshments (uninspiring 'Travelodge' type tea/coffee/sugar etc.) in the room compared with what one imagines the image the establishment is trying to portray. Also, another 'bugbear' in relation to this type of property (particularly in regard to the AA Rosettes for food) is that the kitchen could not be bothered to provide 'freshly squeezed' orange juice at breakfast but instead relied upon cheap long-life style concentrated juice - yuck, and so common!

    "Although a little out of the way, the hotel was a wonderful surprise. A beautiful Jacobean building, lovingly maintained, with a treasure in every corner. The dining rooms are a delight, as are the gardens, and the bedrooms are clean and comfortable. The staff were helpful and most obliging and the food was excellent." (2446246)
