    The welcome was fabulous. The room was very nice and far better than we anticipated for this class of hotel. Dinner was really good and they were extremely accommodating when we asked for a simple green salad as a starter/ first course. The staff went out of their way to please us and to be helpful.

    The bathroom was rather dark and could be improved with a light above the washbasin. There was a problem with the hot water but this was very quickly corrected.

    Outstanding Hotel in every way. Great food, not extortionate prices. Beautiful grounds, isolated in its own park/farmland. Service superb. Room a good size. What more can one ask.

    None, however it is isolated, be sure you have good directions to find it especially if it is dark on your arrival. Hotel is well sign-posted from the local roads. 45 mins from main Champagne house areas. Not particularly suitable for children.

    wonderful, would definitly go again very welcoming Once they have completed the renovations it will be outstanding.

    The garden in front of the pool area needed tidying up. Other than that minor detail it was a wonderful retreat.

    "Fabulous hotel and surroundings - well signposted when you get towards Sainte Preuve. Excellent facilities for fitness, lots of garden to explore (shame it was raining!). Food is very good - traditional french and the suggested wines a great accompaniment. More suited to adults than children, although cannot fault the staff on their help with the kids - only fish and chips for kids I've seen with Sea Bream! Must go back for a romantic weekend..."     Rooms were a good size and well equipped - DVD player is useful for small children. Fitness facilities were good - fluffy towels at the swimming pool.

    Only real issue was the other guests were not suited to a family. The staff were 100% accommodating, but was always worried about the noise levels from the children.

    "Once we found the hotel we just enjoyed the view arriving through the gates and up the drive. By the time we had exited the car attentive staff were on hand to assist in all areas. The rooms are excellent and the staff friendly with even a good sense of humour especially the wine waiter. The food top rate for the price and there are several suprises along the way that polish the stay. The massage even though a bit pricey, considering the surroundings was great." (3304117850)

    It carries a sense of being more than just a hotel room. The bathroom was a very good size with a bath that was so relaxing because of your posture it held you.

    A beam that posibly could have caused a middle of the night ehad clearance problem. Part of the charm

    "The attractive setting and facilities of this hotel and country-side location provided an ideal stop-over on a trip through this very interesting region of Western France. Again, the staff were all exceptionally pleasant and efficient. The Chateau du Barive was by far the nicest of the hotels that we used during our trip through France, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland." (3304601736)

    The service staff was exceptional. The facility had charm. The ancillary functions (e.g. the pool) were welcome.

    Despite a most enjoyable dinner, our main courses from the dinner menu were not up to the quality of the rest of food and drink items.

    The setting of the hotel, quiet rural area,was ideal for a pleasant stay, the room had lovely views with excellent furnishings.

    The swimming pool area should have steps with hand rail down into the pool,together with depth signs around the walls.

    "The room was long and narrow with a standard double bed and a small cramped bathroom with a shower.Having booked a superior room we requested a queen size bed and would have automatically expected a bath.No tea making facilities.It annoyed me having to pay for the coffee while waiting for our bill in reception in the morning.     "Hotel was not easy to find but after a long journey the staff could not have been more welcoming and offered a refreshing drink while formalities were completed. The large bedroom was tastefully furnished and the huge bathroom well provided with all the usual amenities. Dinner was a feast on Valentines night and the service thoughout was superb."     Everything clean and in good order. Only negative was the fact that the room was on second floor with no lift.

    "From the moment we arrive at the Chateau, the service we received was exceptional. From check-in to check-out we did not have a single reason to be unhappy. The staff are all very polite and their attention to detail is unsurpassed. We will return to Chateau du Barive and look forward to it immensely.
