    "Overall, the stay was good. The hotel just needs to remember that ordinary guest are paying good money as well as wedding guests and should make sure they are still looked after." (107196289)

    Hotel was in a quiet location. Staff were friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable.

    This hotel really seems to want to cater for weddings. It has one most week-ends, which makes it extremely busy Fridays and Saturdays. There didn't seem to be enough staff to cope. Ordinary paying guests suffer from reduced service and noise, no room in the bar or lounge, and shuffled around at breakfast time.

    Very hot in room, air conditioning would have been welcome! Two members of staff very young, although pleasant enough, not particulary informative. Evening meal - meat overcooked although vegetables just right. Presentation good.

    Very friendly place in an idyllic setting.

    The room was a bit "tired" and in need of updating. A welcome basket for self-caterers is particularly necessary. A few sachets of tea, coffee,milk abd sugar would have been really welcomed. We only stayed in the self-catering bungalow beacause the hotel was allegedly fully booked, so we weren't carrying the above basics with us.

    Fantastic location. Stayed in a one bedroom cottage which was beautifully presented, clean, peaceful. The whole complex, cottages and hotel, is all superbly presented to a very high standard.

    Nicely appointed kitchen/dining area and plenty of hanging/storage space for coats, walking boots, bags, etc. Everything very clean and bright. Scott and Moa (the owners) were very welcoming and friendly. Lovely walks from the cottages without using the car. Excellent restaurant onsite and lots of places to eat in Newport (ten minutes drive).

    Lounge and bedroom a little on the small size and the bedroom would have benefited from a dressing table or drawers on which to stand personal items.

    The room needed to be updated, but they plan on doing that. I would like to see what it looks like when they are done!

    As the hotel was in the process of refurbishment, the owner put me in one of the hotel's cottages (Felin Fach) so that I would not be disturbed in any way.I got an entire cottage for 2 nights at the same cost as a single room. It was very well appointed,and they took the trouble to put fresh milk in the fridge for me just to make my coffee taste better.

    Not much to dislike.I could be really critical and say that the sound of the stream outside was noticeable in the quiet of the night, but most people would find that quite restful.Otherwise everything was far better than I could have ever expected.

    "We were ugraded to a cottage from a room. We were very pleased. We had our son with us and I asked for a bed to be made in the lounge. This was done before ur return from sightseeing in the afternoon. The staff were polite, courteous and informative. The evening meal we had in the hotel was excellent and so was the breakfast!"     lovely secluded area cottage was well extremely well equiped. The staff and food were excellent despite having emergency building work carried out on the hotel. They bought our food to the cottages we were staying in.

    The approach road (2+miles) is daunting to anyone who hasn't travelled it before or is apprehensive about very narrow roads with few passing places

If I were staying longer and I would definitely consider this it would be good to know local walks etc. They may have had these already but due to short stay we didn,t find them.     Warm welcoming and friendly atmosphere in a beautiful countryside settiing. The food was predominantly sourced locally and well-prepared and presented. Excellent house white!

    "The hotel did not inform us that we could not have dinner, that was expected, in the evening due to a wedding party. Fortunately the efficent lady at reception booked us into a restaurant in the nearby town of Newport, which was extremely good. We felt that we were expected to leave our breakfast table the following morning as soon as possible, once again because of another wedding party that was arriving.     "Gelli fawr is in rather an out-of-the way location, up narrow and winding country lanes, but is well signposted and easy to find from nearby Newport. The staff are very friendly and helpful, and the accommodation clean and comfortable. We did not eat at the hotel restaurant during our weekend stay, because there was a wedding reception being held there. However we have eaten there in the past and enjoyed the meal very much. There is a choice of good places to eat in Newport if you don't want to eat in." (99148875)

    "We had difficulty finding the hotel although there were plenty of brown signs ,so that was probabley our fault,every aspect of stay was heaven, i would certainly go there again .First class in every way,even the walk in the grounds was lovely ,with the added benifit of sunsine .If we needed information re trips,places to eat the staff were helpful and the owner delightful.nothing was too much trouble .Thank you" (99108971)

    The facilities were perfectly satisfactory for our overnight stay and the two members of staff were welcoming and helpful. Refreshments were very adequate and enjoyable.
