    Traditional style hotel, good facilities

    Room not great for amount paid. Night time bar staff didn't have a clue about types of drinks and good customer service.

    Good attention to the decor/style of the hotel . Good location.

    Attitude of check-in staff (really felt she had better things to do). No heating in the room - had to rely on an electric heater in the hallway. Hot water took an age to feed through to the shower. Breakfast was dis-organised - I had to ask for coffee, toast and chase for missing items from the table.

    room was was well presented and clean, breafast was lovely

    first member of staff to greet us was quite rude to another customer in front of us.

    "Very expensive. We paid over the odds for our stay, will not make the same mistake again. It may be clever to keep changing the prices on your web site but in the longer term you will lose repeat business. So taking into account the money paid out, poor value. 5 star price, 3 star hotel."     Large bedroom. Nice breakfast room.

    Shortage of food items at Monday breakfast. Lack of car space on Saturday. Loud late night door shutting on Saturday evening.

    "Mostly acceptable, however some staff need to realise they are in the hospitality business, and understand what that means. If you intend to cultivate repeat business or a good reputation you need to focus more on the enjoyment of the visitors. Nobody was rude but it was the feeling of indifference" (108554540)

    The hotel is an interesting building with a sense of history, it was nice to stay in such a venue. It is convenient to town and easy enough to find. The quality of the food served was high.

    When checking in, the two staff members on the reception desk were not at all welcoming, they made us feel like we were just numbers to be processed. No personal touch or warm greeting. They did not tell us where the lifts were or roughly how to get to our room. We carried our bags up the stairs and wandered around till we found the room ourselves, only later that day did we spot the location of the lifts. The toilet was leaking badly in our bathroom. I used the facility in the morning only to find myself standing in a pool of water. When I pointed it out to the receptionist she said "OK we'll have someone take a look at it". She never offered an apology, which wouldn't have cost anything (even if it was insincere). While eating breakfast, I observed the staff turn a couple away from the dining room. This seemed wrong as even though most people were finishing eating, more food had just been brought out from the kitchen. It was 2 minutes before the breakfast period was due to end and even if it had been a minute past, some leniency should be extended it's not as if they were trying to get a breakfast in McDonalds after 11 O'Clock. These people were guests and were clearly offended by the completely inflexible actions of the staff member.

    Excellent position and interior to the hotel. Nice bathroom. Excellent breakfast.

    Very creaky floors in all bedrooms kept us awake. Limited parking. Poor quality fold out bed for child resulted in parents sleeping in it. Poor quality adult beds.

    "Had a lovely time, excellent location, pleasant hotel and excellent check in staff. The service at Breakfast was a little impersonal although the food was first class. The room was clean and fresh, if not a little tired, and the check out was smooth and effortless. " (108689572)

    The check in staff member was excellent, friendly, courteous, efficient and helpful.

    The hotel is a little 'tired' looking and for the room rate we'd suggest a few treaks here and there to change it from a good stay to an exceptional stay.

    I didn't get my wakeup call the first morning. I used the TV the 2nd night. A clock would be nice to have in the room. There was no washcloth and the shower curtain needed to be replaced. Parking is extremely difficult.

    Excellent customer service and attention to detail, staff always willing to help. Dining room opened early on more than one morning to accomodate commitments which existing times could not meet Excellent service and attention to detail at all functions connected with the hotel during conference Black tie dinner was one of the most successful i have ever attended and the food was excellent especially in view of the need for dietary requirements - it was really pleasing to have the same meal as everyone else but adapted to meet my needs (wheat free) so that there was no real disitinction between my meal and everyone else's at the table Room was spotlessly clean at all times with large and luxuriously thick towels - a real treat when in many hotels they are small and ususally very thin and worn!

    In all honesty none to report other than the lack of parking - which i knew about in advance and made alternative arrnagements

    We were travelling with my 6 month old daughter and made to feel very welcome by the staff, cot was provided and highchairs in the restaurants. Rooms are nicely decorated and quite spacious, some more than others. Ideal location in the centre of harrogate.

    We ate in the hotel restaurant the place in the evening unfortuatley the food was very poor which was dissapointing as we have eaten there a few times and always been very pleased. the menu choice was very limited and there were no specials like there is usually, we weren't on dinner, bed and breakfast so were paying full price. I hope this was a one off otherwise we will have to eat else where on our next visit. The breakfast in the hotel the next morning was lovely.

    All the staff where very polite helpful and efficient.Meals we had in the Place resteraunt were to a very high standerd and very well priced.The price for our two nights stay was very competitive.

    Beautiful building in great location. dining room and breakfast excellent. Rooms clean

    Room very cold. Asked for some heating. First asked on arrival at 3pm. Room still very cold on return to hotel at 9pm. three calls made to reception over 90 minute period. poor response from reception. "Heating will come on in 20 minutes". Eventually porter came with portable heater as we has established radiator in room not working and noisy. Asked for room change the following morning. No help with bags. Waste of our valuable weekend time sorting this out.

    Breakfast was excellent each morning and plenty of choice. Bed was very comfortable.

    Had an evening meal in the hotel restaurant. I had a pasta dish which I didn't enjoy as it was tasteless and so didn't eat it. Checking out was a bit of a nightmare, not enough staff on and large queue.

    Location is good. Refurbished rooms are good.

    Parking: We would have expected more parking or a better subsidied/free parking scheme for guests. We needed to move our car to the Exhibition car park for one of the days at a cost of £12.

    a wine spritzer in 'The Place' was £3.60 on our 1st round then £6 (2 different bar staff) on the second, when I pointed this out and involved the 1st barman he just shrugged his shoulders! I was attending the Nelsonica event and had booked online, I later found out that you were offering a preferential rate for Nelsonica attendees, when I rang to see if this could be changed I was told no because I had booked online but I didnt actually pay until I left on sunday. I would have expected a bit more flexibility given that the Nelsonica event drew a lot of high spending customers to your hotel.

    The room was large and well appointed. The shower worked very well.The bed was comfortable. Nice complimentary wine and chocolate

    The kettle needed to have the plug held in the socket to boil. I was attending a convention in the Hotel and had been told (after I had booked) there was special rates for attendees. When I asked about this, I was told because I had booked on line I could not have the dicount. I fail to see why as I was attending the convention.The function hall had appalling accoustics. Bar prices were ridiculous.

    Clean, modern rooms and facilities but retaining the wonderful air of a fine traditional English hotel. The breakfast buffet was excellent. The rooms were cleaned & serviced very quickly each morning.

    Beautiful holtel with very friendly atmosphere. Staff very efficient at check in and wheb checking out.

    No bad points. Was an unfortunate shame that we received an early morning alarm call from reception which we had not requested and certainly did not want. Lady on reception did apologise again when we checked out and it was a genuine mistake, so I did not cause any fuss.
