  "Much appreciated refuge halfway through a long journey." (107856769)

  Excellent staff, really friendly and helpful,wonderful setting,beautiful grounds.

  Shame it is bang up close to the motorway and railway line. Having said that, they did not actually disturb us during the night.

  "Very poor service certainly would not stay there again. When one has travelled as we did for seven hours when you arrive at an Hotel you expect a modicom of comfort especialy in this price range. Will not use this server again." (107275113)

  None, other than the location and breakfast was good.

  Despite telephoning to advise time of arrival the hotel were unable to provide any sort of meal and were extremely unhelpfull.Room was dirty, bedside lamp not working, very noisy fridge, The most uncomfortable bed I have ever slept in.

  In my opinion the key to any business is the people. In the case of the staff in the Auchen Castle Hotel, they were helpful, friendly without being overpowering and most importantly ererything was done with a genuine commiment and a big smile!

  "Great location, very peacefull with well kept gardens. Parking is no more than 20 steps from the reception. The building is beautifull inside and out and the staff are very friendly. Nice relaxing place to stay with great service and an great chef." (99955652)

  "This was a lovely hotel in terms of decor and external presentation, let down by uncaring kitchen skills. There was some overkill with the amount of waiting staff (head waiter, sommilier, commis, barman all vieing for something to do with only 2 couples to cater for! However, as mentioned above, this hotel appears to cater mainly for the function market and as such either does not have the skill or interest in catering for the casual leisure market."   I chose the location as I had seen it many times over the years from the motorway. The grounds were very well maintained, there seemed to be plenty of TLC applied to the overall fabric of the hotel and the room (originally booked as a standard) was upgraded on arrival to feature room which was a pleasant surprise.

  This hotel is clearly geared to function trade such as weddings and not for the general public/leisure traveller. I say this as it was clear that the kitchen was not geared to providing the quality of food indicated in the menu. Both evening meal and breakfast were disappointing in one way or another. Specifically, starters good (crisp parma ham and goats cheese/mushroom tartlet) however the main course meats were wholly unacceptable for the price charged. Medallions of venison were in fact thick slices of overcooked reheated braised venison, the fillet steak was either reheated also as to get it so overcooked and dried up would have been impossible to do in the time between ordering and receiving. Galette of potato was reheated as were the roast potatoes. Remaining vegetables good. Sweet (Treackle Sponge) was good. Breakfast generally Ok but again, feature product of haggis was overcooked and dry, fried eggs old and watery.
