    "It was what I expected for the money and overall I was happy with my stay. " (108776072)

    Full breakfast was very good and the staff were very helpful, efficient and friendly.

    There was a air condition attached to the property nest door which was on until around 23.45 each night. If you wanted a early night this is a problem

    Clean well decorated room and floor outside the room. Good breakfast.Value for money.

    A few maintenance points need attention - shower slider loose; window lock not working in room; lock missing to separate inner entrance door to hotel[not external door]- poor security.

    Very nice place. Loved the Dickensian atmosphere. Great breakfast.

    Impossible to have hot water in the shower.

    Great Location, nice feel/atmosphere in the bar. Great fun/drink/shopping minutes walk away at the Oracle shopping centre.

    No parking, however multi storey close by at £10 a night

    Really nice food which I enjoyed a lot, beautifully furnished bar, friendly staff, great shower and spacious room.

    It was very noisy at nightime and you could hear music/shower/hairdryer through the walls. Lots of stairs to climb to get to my room.

    lovely hotel nice rooms warm and comfortable

    when we arrived to check in it seamed that our booking had not been logged on the system, when we were given the key to our room it had not been cleaned. we were up graded at no extra cost to a superior room.

    "Not pleasant, my friend also stayed and the room was paid for by her work, if I had done this would I have got a four poster bed, settee and a whirlpool bath like she did? Only good point was that the staff were all polite and friendly, well only met two of them and they were fine." (107651035)

    The bar was nice, staff friendly, location handy. Parking advice excellent.

    The bar meal was awful, when the plates were taken away the waiters comments were 'that was bad wasn't it?! Homemade burger seemed a safe bet, but it looked like it had been sat on then left on the grill for half an hour! The room was small and the tv was behind a pillar. A generator kicked in at 6.30am filling the room with noise. The toilet had an offering from the previous occupier stuck to it. Didn't risk the breakfast even though it had been paid for! Nobody around at check out time so had to leave the key on the bar.

    "In the main, I was happy with my stay and will almost certainly be using the hotel again during the coming 12 months when I will be continuing my work in Reading. It would make my stay a lot more enjoyable if the DVD player in my room worked next time, or if more TV channels / a bigger TV were available." (107384776)

    I've stayed at the hotel before and the location is very close to my office in Reading. I found the staff to be friendly, helpful and polite. In addition, my compliments to the chef in the mornings - the full English breakfacts were lovely.

    The TV in the room was tiny, so much so that I struggled to see the screen properly from sitting on the bed. The DVD player in the TV was broken - the channels are very limited, perhaps get a freeview digital box and hook it up to each of the TV's? The cleaner continually forgot to replenish the soap and a teaspoon in my room so I had to go and ask for them at the bar most nights I was there. When I asked the barman to have a word with the cleaner about it, my teaspoon had been replaced the next day but had been put in the pocket near the door where the keys are normally placed to switch the lights on.

    very friendly, warm comfortable room, lovely breakfast

    noisy pipes kept me awake, and the shower door did not close properly. also they only supplied runny shower gel, no shampoo, which was a bit of a pain as i didnt take any!

    "If you are looking for somewhere middle-priced in the centre of Reading for a short stay, then this is fine. I wouldn't go on holiday there with my wife, though I would use it for business." (107483558)

    Central location. Hotel better than the pub downstairs. Good breakfast nicely served. Fair value for money.

    No lifts! Not really a hotel despite the investment in the rooms.

    Quiet room, slept very well, good breakfast, central

    Toilet needs cleaning with a descaler to remove brown stains. Shower drainage rather slow. Pillows need replacing as they are hard and 'sad'. More hangers in wardrobe needed. Shelf needed in bathroom.

    Great breakfast

    Blatant swearing at pool table by youngsters. Nightclub/music place next door, the noise was APPAULING AND DEAFENING. We only found this out on our return to the hotel at 22:45. Could not sleep for 2 hours or more. Absolutely will I not stay there again.Very upset by this and tired the next day.

    Easy check-in. Good bar downstairs. Very helpful staff.

    Not as clean as most other places I've stayed. Hairs from assumed previous occupant in bathroom. Carpet needed cleaning. Water heater for coffee/tea was not clean. Furniture had ring stains from drinking glasses or bottles.

    "Nothing to add with respect to the hotel accomodation. My Great Expectations were all met. I had a problem with the online reservation that did not reach the hotel. Quite luckily, I rang the hotel in advance, therefore I realized the online reservation was not received and I could complete it." (97979648)

    "We were delighted with the size of the room and the standard of cleanliness. Apart form this, the facilities were fairly basic- two small towels only for two people for example. The hotel was quiet and we slept well. The breakfast was adequate but basic. We had to ask for brown bread and there was no fruit available, which are usual in a hotel costing this much." (97037381)

    There was no information about facilities in Reading- i.e. where to eat etc. There were no 'extras' such as a 'phone, or tissues available, nor instructions for the use of the TV

    Clean and reasonably comfortable.

    A little noisy at around 5 a.m. in the morning, when beer barrels were being delivered/collected.

    "The room was great although the radiators seemed not to be working. The did provide a small portable heater which was adequate. The TV was not plugged in and the areal with the freeview box did not work. The staff were friendly. As a town pub is was very convenient but there was no parking provision for the car." (97989146)

    Convenient location, lovely staff, clean and comfy. Nice to have a cd and dvd player available.

    Breakfast hadnt much choice, noisy until the pubs close in the local area and lots of stairs!

    "Please note - the 'Poor' ratings on this review, all relate to the problem below: We were very disappointed that our front door key did not work properly and as our event finished late and we didn't arrive back at the hotel until after midnight, there was no-one at the hotel to help us get in. My partner had to almost break-in, for us to enter the room and get some sleep. However, this process took so long (and we had to leave the hotel at 06:15), that we got less than four hours sleep in the end. Very disappointing indeed. And to make matters worse, it was the coldest night this year so far! I would suggest the door is checked. There is obviously something faulty with the mechanism. I am sure we are not the first (nor will we be the last) to experience this problem. Very disappointing." (97386086)

    Internet access only avaiable for 20 mines per purchase. Other Hotel can offer 24 hours services, and not limited by access card. Some of Hotel offer free internet access....

    "Overall it was very good. I wasn't aware the hotel was part of a pub/ bar which came as a surprise and might have been offputting if it had been very busy/ noisy as there were no seperate facilities for eating etc. However, it was quiet when I stayed (a Thursday night) and wasn't a problem in the least. The staff were friendly and the facilities, service, cleanliness and food were all good and the location was very conveneient being in the town centre. I would certainly stay again if visiting Reading in the future." (97554125)

    The room was comfortably furnished and had all of the facilities I needed and would expect. It was clean and pleasant althoughthere was a little outside noise and no view (common and expected in city centre hotels.) The bar was pleasant and fortunately not too busy or noisy and the food was tasty, generous and good value for money although a stay at the weekend may have been a lot busier.

    A little more choise of television channels would be good but otherwise it was all good.
