    The staff / owners couldnt have been more helpful and friendly. Our room wanst ready when we arrived as it was only 10.30 but they let us in it anyway so we could drop off our bags and get changed as we had been driving since the early morning. The room was lovely and the breakfast gorgeous. Will definetly return to this hotel.

    We arrived early and our room wasn't ready but we were offered breakfast. We got the "last" room which was a bit small and we were given a discount without asking for it. Extremely helpful friendly staff.

    I liked the location - very central, approx. 10 minute walk to the Princes Street.

    I disliked that we had the basement room which has its own doorway and the guests in the otherbasement room would stand by our window outside to smoke, and as a non smoker, I did not like my rooom and bathroom smelling of smoke that came in from outside, as it did not seem to shift!

    "We were four girls looking for a good time and a nice hotel and thats exactly what we found. The value for money was superb and the breakfast was definitely up to scratch. All in all I reccomend it." (97047018)

    The room was fabulous, breakfast was amazing and the staff were ever so friendly. All the wonderous sights Edinburgh has to offer are in walking distance. I would definitely reccomend this hotel to a friend. And we enjoyed it so much we are returning in April.

    The only complaint we had was the drilling and banging in the room upstairs beside one of the rooms we had to stay in. It started quite early in the morning and kept the two girls awake.

    "We were welcomed on the day of arrival and given a room which had a very small bathroom. I requested when I booked for a room with a bath, but didn't get one. I asked if one was available upon arrival and there was. Not sure why it wasn't given to us without us asking when we got there. Staff were very attentive and friendly. A great place to stay. It was close to everything we wanted to do and see. I would recommend this hotel to others with no hesitation." (97822962)

    We had plenty of space and a bath to relax in at the end of a busy day.

    "Could and shoulr be a good hotel (if the simple fixes are take care of); Easy to get to and from, close to attractions and friendly staff I had problem with hot water pressure (very low pressure, sometimes hardly any water - Unfortunately this is very common UK wide)and the radiator was had air in it (thus sub-optimal performance). I would prefer a slighlty better TV offer and Internet access in the room" (97089969)

    "The entire staff of the Lairg was outstanding. I felt I had been a friend come for a visit. The breakfast was a lovely choice of wonderfully prepared food. Also on the occasion of needing an adapter or computer service I visited the wonderful Haymarket ,a sister property and they were also wonderfully helpful and went out of there way to help me with my needs. The service of these properties rival the service I am acustom to in the five star hotels with the added bonus of true Personal service. I would recommend anyone to the area to stay here, good location for bus services as well." (97203778)

    The room was welcoming and well kept . I felt right at home from the moment I arrived.

    "We were in Edinburgh to see the rugby and found the hotel very convenient to Murrayfield. We were a party of 4 with a 2 week old baby and when we needed to visit a hospital the managers were very helpful with ordering taxis and information. The accommodation was warm, very clean and tidy and the room furnishings were attractive and in keeping with the character and atmosphere of this Scottish hotel. Breakfast was very good and served in an attractive room." (3305445680)

    Friendliness of staff and how they went out of their way to accommodate our requests. e.g. carrying bags upstairs, early breakfast, helping us with taxis. Cup of tea facilities and supplies in room.

    No lift!!! (but a very cheerful porter in place of) A very small bathroom space in room 1 (Room 5 bathroom space was not a problem)

    "Very friendly and helpful staff, beutiful room, great breakfast, free laundry facilities, great location close to rail station and bus lines, very comfortable beds and good bathroom with plenty of water pressure in the shower. The family who run the hotel were always ready to help answer questions about bus routes and nearby restaurants. We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel, after checking out, so we could spend our last afternoon exploring the city until our late afternoon train departure without having to haul it around, and were allowed free use of their phone for a call to London. I would definitely stay at the Lairg again if I were visiting Edinburgh." (99399685)

    "The hotel was central and not very far from the Princess street , the room was spacious but the bathroom needed renovation as they were very small compared to the room. The reception area needed someone on the desk, Breakfast was very good and people who are running the place are friendly and hospitable." (99475133)

    It was home away from home, People were extremely friendly and very accomodating , services were excellent and warm hospitality.

    Reception desk for check in purposes should have a person there at all times for any emergencies.

    Our hosts were wonderfully accommodating in every way. They made the stay an unforgettable experience. Breakfasts were cooked to order, and prepared in a way that seemed just like home cooking.

    Our room was on the second floor and there was no elevator!

Perhaps the only thing it would have been good to know in advance was that the room was on the second floor and there was no lift.     It was clean, friendly, and breakfast was outstanding. THANKYOU!

    I got a parking ticket at 17.45. My fault really i should have read the signs. Beware travellers, I think they were hiding behind a lamp post for weary foriegn travellers!!! However, the hotel was fineNothing!

    "Overall our stay was great there, we only made it to 1 breakfast out of 3 because it was very early (ending at 9:30)but you could walk to Princess St easily and a taxi back with all the shopping bags was cheap enough too, it was the best price for the location, (we researched alot)! we couldnt get a taxi back on satuday night but the walk wasnt that far and there was 3 of us so we felt very safe. very nice woman running it!"     we stayed in the basement which was very clean and well decorated, nice LCD TV, and tea/coffee etc

    i'm used to a power shower so i found the electric a big weak, the room was a big cold even with the rad on but it was very cold weather.

    "Enjoyable stay, close to Edinburgh city centre. Quiet location, friendly staff. However, not all double rooms are as shown on the website (4 poster room is depicted) - I think it should state very clearly on the website that double rooms do differ in decoration and standard. Fortunately, as stated above, it was a quiet time of the year and other rooms were available for us to move into - we had absolutely no complaints with the 2nd room allocated - it was excellent!"     Excellent ground floor 'apartment' style room - very spacious, bath as well as shower. Very quiet. Lovely breakfast, very obliging staff.

    Not entirely happy with first room allocated on arrival, but this was easily rectified and the larger ground floor room was allocated.

    Our room was fabulous - the decor was elegant and stylish, the hotel and location was lovely and quiet but still only a 10 minute walk into Prince's Street. The staff were very friendly and helpful - the best U.K hotel I've ever stayed in!

    The staff were very friendly and efficient, the room was clean and comfortable and the place was a short walk from the main shopping area.

    There was no bath, which ordinarily would not have been a problem but the weather was pretty bad and it would have been great to come back at the end of the day and have a warming bath. I can't really criticise the place though, great value for money and very friendly.

    "We had not realised there was no communal lounge or bar. While this is not a great problem it would have been nice if someone had suggested we were welcome to go for a drink at the guest house across the road. When you arrive in the evening it is a bit daunting to just go to your room untill the morning when you can get you bearings. Alternatively suggestions of where to eat would have been nice.     Clean, tasteful and well-equipped rooms for a very reasonable price. Very friendly staff; excellent breakfasts.

    Sometimes the hotel was left unattended and guests were directed to another hotel along the road for assistance. This would have been irritating if you'd arrived with luggage and were trying to check in.

    Good position for access to the International Conference Centre and for city centre.

    Gloomy lighting in the room with low wattage energy saving light bulbs exacerbated by thick lamp shades, including the centre light. Easily remedied by increased wattage.

    "Excellent in every way. I know Edinburgh well, but the place I usually stay was booked. The Lairg was much closer in, so far more convenient for walking to Princes Street, to the Haymarket train station and car hire companies and all buses (to city center or airport, etc.) Our room was HUGE, 12 ft ceiling, king-sized bed (rare in B&Bs), and QUIET (the Lairg is a few buildings up on a sidestreet off the main street: many of the lg. hotels are NOISY.) The manager who greeted us was incredibly sweet and friendly -- we had to call her late evening once; also requested an iron and she was perfectly happy to wake us up at 6 a.m. for our flight home (a B&B is not a hotel, and this is a real favor for that hour...) She couldn't have been sweeter. We like the Lairg very much. I was delighted to find it and, while I love the B&B I usually stay in on Murrayfield Ave and its owner, this is so much more convenient that I would probably choose to stay here next time. By the way -- we are in our 40s, from San Francisco and I suspect our standards are pretty high. In the u.k, over many years, I have always found B&Bs more comfortable, nicer, friendlier (and far better value) than hotels. My boyfriend is a doctor and prof. at a univ., and had never been to Scotland. We decided to travel at the v. last minute, so not a lot of choice. I really wanted the place to be good and was nervous, not knowing the Lairg. He -- and I -- both really loved it." (3304943101)

    I know Edinburgh well: this location is v. convenient to city center either by bus or if you like to walk. HUGE room, quiet street, v. friendly manager -- even when we had to interrupt her late in evening and ask for v. early wake-up call, iron, etc.

    ONLY comment: it would have been helpful to have a hair dryer in the room -- but I notice that B&Bs don't -- perhaps they have theft problems.
