    "we did not enjoy our stay and left a day early" (108692244)

    The beds were clean and comfortable and the hospitality tray well supplied as was the bathroom which included a shower cap, shampoo etc. The staff were friendly and helpful.

    The window was very hard to close and window ledges needed cleaning. The television was dreadful and the "Saniflo"lavatory was noisy and not what one expects nowadays. The shower head did not fit into the overhead bracket and we had to use it as a hand shower which was very awkward. The people in the next room seemed to be having a late night party and the television was switched on very loud at 06.40am the next morning which disturbed us.

    I had booked a twin room and was given a double room - which was inconvenient and I wasn't offered a discount or an apology.

    "Single member of staff, welcoming but busy person. Quiet, lovely reception rooms but bedroom and ensuite in need of updating and some homely touches." (107989258)

    Welcoming staff

    No restaurant available as chef on holiday. No warning of this; did say we might be late getting in, but would have expected meal/supper at 10pm on a Saturday evening.

    Friendly Staff. Clean comfortable bed. Lovely hot shower. We didn't eat in the restaurant but the menu looked appetising

    everything functioned well. Hotel bar was open quite late too. Nothing glamorous, but cheerful friendly and helpful staff. Good breakfast.

    Pleasant if limited bar area and breakfast area.

    Room appearred damp on arrival but was not bad to sleep in. Shower looked damp and inhygenic (masic had mould growth on it). Shower was cold and stayed cold. On complaining to the desk was told that 'The hotel could not be held responsible for that.' No evening meals (chef ill) so it was a walk into town on a very wet night to eat.

    Excellent reception, very friendly and made to feel welcome. Both service and food good.

    Rooms need updating, decoration looks tired...wallpaper peeling off in places.

    very friendly staff, the main area of the hotel was pleasant, room was clean

    Room was a bit shabby and bathroom very dingy and quite shabby. THe description on the booking form was that the hotel had been completely refurbished- this was not the case for our room

    "The proprietor has only just taken over and intends to make quite a lot of changes, but its a very pleasant hotel in an excellent location and has a lot of potential to be excellent. There is a shortage of really nice restaurants in Monmouth so there is some scope there," (97660227)

    Very convenient for evrywhere in Monmouth, friendly and helpful staff. Landlady had only just taken over but she was very nice.

    Friendly staff although a bit rushed off their feet. Relatively cheap accomodation and very well located.

    The whole hotel was dirty and unkept, particularly the rooms which was a shame. Bedroom surfaces were sticky and some had dirt still on,and the bedroom floor did not look as if had been hoovered for a while! Choice of continental breakfast was poor.

    Staff were very friendly and accomodating. Dbl glazing provided a quiet environment.

    Appaling condition of the room - lumpy bed, mould on the walls, toilet base was cracked (room 12) etc.

    "The decor in our room was depressing and the bathroom decor also needed attention. I think they may be refurbishing the place? The other people in our group were okay with their room, although we all felt that for the standard of accommodation the cost of each room - without breakfact included - was slightly overpriced. The staff were friendly though. I understand that it's an older building, I just think that some of the rooms need a nice lick of paint and a bit more tlc." (99673433)

    it was near to the town of monmouth

    the fact that we was told to change rooms after one night. the second night was spoilt because you could smell the cooking of chips in our bedroom the following day there was a smell of stale cooking oil

    The hotel was smelly. There appeared to be drain problems, the room next to mine appeared to have a problem as the door was left open. The TV was antiquated, no remote, like a prtable with poor channels & then only 4. The tilet had a problem flushing & the coffee making facilities were limited with milk a little past its best.
