    Thoroughly enjoyed our stay, staff very helpful, courteous, room was excellent, nice large t.v., comfortable bed, clean facilities, accidentally left my credit card, returned to me safely you could not ask for more

    Toasters at breakfast need changing much to slow, thats all

    toilet obviously was not checked because it would not flush.The showers are basic mixer valves which in a hotel in a hotel are lethal,your either frozen or scalded

    Both check in and out were carried out quickly and efficiently. The room was comfortable and clean with everything in working order. Although the Chief failed to show up for work on the Sunday for breakfast, the waitress stepped straight in and produced a good breakfast, so all in all that was fine.

    After going shopping in the Saturday market we decided to pop back to the hotel for pre-dinner drinks. Unfortunately the Bar prices we felt were well over the top. In fact we thought they were a 'rip off'. Sufficient to say we went back out, bought some wine and went to our room. A pity because we would have prefered to sit and chat in the bar. So overall the Hotel lost out. It was easy to see why the bar was almost empty.

    Superb surroundings and atmosphere. Friendly and helpful staff. Excellent service. Generous attitude from receptionist. Efficient.

    Room and bathroom slightly underfurnished. Wardrobe location not good (in entrance area to room). External location of room not signed from within main building.

    Great staff (except at breakfast). Comfortable rooms. Nice bar with good food and beer.

    Terrible breakfast service - under-staffed and staff were poorly trained and inattentive; always failed to notice when things had run out and needed replenishing (like coffee); they were also slow to clear things away, so the room looked terrible if you came late for breakfast. The coffee was awful. The breakfast room was also poorly furnished. The bedroom was a little cold and the water pressure and temperature of the shower changed constantly making it basically unusable. Also, the hotel uses paper pillow protectors which you end up just removing because they're too noisy and uncomfortable to allow you to sleep.

    Parking available, convenient location in centre of town, comfortable lounge and dining room, a cosy hotel. Very good breakfast. Friendly and attentive service at all times.

    Dinner a little disappointing: there were safer options than what we chose. There didn't seem to be a better alternative in town.

    Clean, Comfortable

    The breakfast - not very nice taste, (the cooked breakfast) on my second morning I went out for breakfast. The mushrooms were greasy and only partly cooked, the fried bread had not been drained of oil, which had an aftertaste of something else that had been cooked in it.

    "I have been to the hotel before and had a very comfortable stay, however this time I was not very pleased with the room I was given and we did not find it very confortable and did not get much sleep as very small, hot and noisy, and therefore I felt it was not good value for money. I would not want a room on the top floor when I next visit otherewise I would not book this Hotel again" (107119632)

    Excellent immediate booking online service. Polite friendly staff. Very clean and we had a lovely meal in the restaurant and the breakfast was also very good.

    Unfortunately we were given rooms on the third floor that were attic rooms so they were rather small with a slanted roof so there was not much room at all I had to bend my head to get in and out of bed due to the slanted ceiling and it was very hot as this was in the rooftop of the hotel, and it was very noisy when the window was open as facing busy road so this kept us awake overnight. The windo was high and small and therefore no view and made the room feel even samller and darker. There is no lift after 2nd floor so not good for anyone with mobility problems.

    "The staff were very courteous, helpful etc. The waiter who served the evening meal was particulary attentive. I dined with my son who has special needs and the waiter was very understanding. Parking was the only problem during the evening. I think people using the bar facilites of the hotel took up alot of the spaces. I think residents should have a reserved space." (97209982)

    Clean, central location, good size car park, reasonably comfortable bed. Pleasant, willing staff.

    Very cramped room, and missing TV and radio remote controls as well as two lightbulbs. Poor quality fit out - loo seat fell off, standard of finishes pretty poor, top window sash stuck with paint, door handles about to fall off. Very intrusive noise from a nearby building every few minutes, 24 hours a day (air handling unit of some kind?). We had to shut the window at night ane were glad the weather was cool. Poor breakfasts - "fresh" fruit was old and wrinkled. Forgetful service. Gloomy bar - more like a public than a lounge bar.

    Staff friendly and helpful, bedroom small but clean and adequate for a person on their own, public rooms clean, dinner menu reasonable and catered for a variety of tastes.

    Bathroom clean but sink taps were in a poor state of repair, also no shelf in bathroom to put washing bag, toothbrush etc., bed overly hard for these old bones, food on so-called 'hot' breakfast buffet was barely warm.

    "Unpromising start; after 200-mile journey we had to wait 4-5 minutes while the receptionist finished making embarrassing private phone conversation to his girl friend, Jacqui. The rest of the staff were very friendly and helpful. Swift service in restaurant and bar; bar meals v. good value. Return to an hotel of great character, of Hardy fame. Not over-modernized. Staying just over the room where Henchard had his mayoral supper in `The Mayor of Casterbridge'. It is a `must' for Hardy lovers to visit the Hotel, and, ideally, stay in it. Free car parking is a great boon in the busy town." (97146169)

    Spacious room commanding wonderful views of High West Street and High East Street from bay window; two comfortable arm chairs.

    The room was too hot for comfortable sleep, even after turning all the radiators off.

    Near the city centre. Very good breakfast.

    "It was unfortunate that the bar meals menu seemed to be withdrawn when I intended to eat there, to make a change from the dining room menu. So, having set my heart on scampi and chips, I ended up going to the Wetherspoons facility just up the road." (97308072)

    Known quantity with a hotel manager very much on top of the job. Very convenient for the area and well situated in the centre of Dorchester.

    I ended up with one of the smallest rooms on the first floor - a bit cramped in the desk/TV area, but not unbearable.

    Perfect location and parking facilties. Good food (evening meal and breakfast) - nice pub on site and helpful staff.

    Showers were weak compared to home :-(

    "This is a very welcoming country hotel with very attentive staff and our stay was comfortable, pleasing and value for money. However one small note was the unpleasant stale fat smell evident when travelling in the lift between ground/first floor. This must be the proximity of the kitchen air vents but I am sure could be rectified. An additional note for the front desk were the spelling mistakes on the breakfast menu, the beans should be 'baked' and the coffee 'Colombian'!" (97533738)

    The bedroom was spacious, comfortable and it was simple to increase or decrease the temperature.

    The towels were rather thin and even though I hung up the bath towels to use again - as per the note on the wall - they were all replaced by the housekeeper.

    "It would have been helpful to know how easy the car parking would be, not a very large car park, so it could be difficult if full.The lay-out of the hotel and car park would be helpful, as if you were coming from the Yeoville directon you would pass it before seeing the hotel.     The overlook look, and also the size of the Room. The Bathroom was large, separate hall and very spacious bedroom.

    ...that i couldn't have stayed longer!

    "We have stayed here several times in the past, being Hardy enthusiasts. Recent refurbishment has retained the essential character of the hotel which is a lot smarter than it was. Very friendly and helpful staff. Quick service at meal-times. Excellent breakfast with genuine fresh fruit, not canned as in most hotels. Porridge on offer. Location in centre of Dorchester makes it ideal for a winter stay, so that one does not have to drive up dark lanes. Casterbridge Room, former ballroom, called after the Mayor of C. is kept open for all to admire." (97550300)

    Spacious room,with sofa where we could sit and read in the evenings. Very quiet, despite being in the middle of the town. Free car park.

    Jazzed up bar detracts from some of the character; loss of former room on ground floor where one could sit in deep armchairs and have tea.
